    Publisher's Summary:
Committed to saving his marriage before it starts, doctoral student Nick Cairn embarks on a project aimed at finding the secrets of everlasting love. But when Moiré De Lanthe, a smart and sassy research assistant, enters the picture, his Happily Ever After is put to the ultimate test.
    Members Reviews:
    Fun, clean romance!
Nick Cairn is working on his doctorate and had three months to finish it. "The stated goal was to understand why supposedly 'perfect love' could go tragically wrong. I wanted to know if there were obvious warning signs on the entrance ramp to the freeway of romance screaming, 'Caution: dead end ahead!' The official literature always gave the usual, unsatisfying answers. I just knew there had to be something more, something deeper." (p. 2)
Moiré De Lanthe shows up in his lab one day and claims to be his new undergraduate assistant. He hasn't had an assistant in 13 months and tries to get rid of her but ends up agreeing to let her help. He's nervous because he's engaged to Ella and feels uneasy that he was so attracted to Moiré.
Ella is beautiful and Nick feels lucky to be engaged to her and is resolved to keep his promise to marry her and stay loyal to her. Ella has a stepmother and stepsister that Nick has never met because she won't allow it to happen. She needs constant reassurances of his love for her and gets him to agree to move the wedding from December to October, which he's not happy about since that's when he's scheduled to defend his dissertation, but agrees because he wants to prove he's committed to her.
As the story goes on, Ella throws up more and more red flags and you wonder why Nick puts up with it. His parents are still married but their marriage is rocky and he's determined that his marriage will be different and he will keep his promise to Ella to marry her.
He enjoys spending time with Moiré but pushes her away because he doesn't want his conflicted feelings to interfere with his commitment to Ella.
I enjoyed reading the male perspective in a romance and liked the conversations on love that Nick had with different characters--his parents, Ella and Moiré. This was a fun, clean read and I recommend giving it a chance.
Much Better Than the Ratings Show
Nick Cairn is working on his doctoral dissertation in psychology. His project is to study love and marriage scientifically and determine what maintains the forever kind of love. At the same time, heâs pursuing his own happy-ever-after and is engaged. But his fiancée seems to become more insecure in their relationship and wants to keep moving the wedding date up, while Nick would prefer to keep the original date so his school work will be finished. To add to the problem, she seems to have a number of male friends and Nickâs new lab assistant draws his attention in ways heâs not comfortable with. Nick is determined to live up to his commitments and make his pending marriage work, but the closer his marriage and doctorate completion get, the faster the problems seem to come.
Because of the number of low ratings, I hesitated to read this book, but Iâm so glad I did. I found it delightful, clean, and thoroughly entertaining. Nick can be bungling at times, but he has many good qualities and is quite loveable, and the story held my interest throughout.

What did you like best about No Strings...? What did you like least?
The idea of the book was interesting. I just didn't enjoy it. I felt it lacked chemisty and excitement. It doesn't draw you in and make you anxious for the next word. Those are the books I like to listen to.
    Any additional comments?
I would use my credit on another book. This one is just too lukewarm and predictable.

    Publisher's Summary:
Ashley Torrington never cared much about Christmas before. But this year shes having a particularly blue holiday because Marine Special Operations Team member Nick Turner got under her skin just before he was deployed to Afghanistan. With her neighbors precocious daughter Bella volunteering Ashley for a special project at school, and a mysterious white-haired stranger named Estelle in town buying gifts from Ashleys shop, not to mention the odd assortment of presents Ashleys been receiving from an anonymous source, she shouldnt have time to worry about her guy. But when he and his team go missing the week before Christmas, she realizes only a Christmas miracle will reunite them.
Captain Nicholas Turner never backed down from challenges - on the battlefield or in his personal life. But hed never met a challenge like Ashley, who doesn't want to be anyones "girl back home". About to embark on one of the most dangerous missions of his life, he needs Ashley to know shes much more than the girl hed left behind, and he does plan to come home to her. Are there really Angels?
You have to buy this book and really believe in not only Angels but that special someone will be there waiting for you and they will find their home. I know that for every soldier there will be someone waiting at home for them. If I could give this book higher than 4 stars l would. Merry Christmas to all of our soldier everywhere your service is greatly appreciated!
    Great Clean Read!
Operation: Christmas Hearts is a good, clean read. Ashley Torrington is convinced she will never date anyone more than three times, until she meets Nick Turner. She tells him he can only have three dates too, that is her rule, but Nick thinks he can change that. Ashley runs a small art gallery in a small town and Nick is in the military. The story is told from each person's perspective. At first, I didn't like this, but then I began to appreciate each person's perspective. The story is well written and you keep turning the pages to find out what happens. I liked how the lost necklace incident turned out. Overall this book is a great read. My one sadness is that I would have liked more to the ending; an epilogue so I know what happens. More info would have been nice!
I received this book free in exchange for my honest review of the book.
a different kind of a christmas story
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this sweet and tingly (not syrupy) romance as it took me back to the days of meeting my sailor (now husband of 35 years). The story is based in 2011 so its very up to date. Ashley is a gift shop owner in a small beach front town and Nick is the marine she meets and a delightful romance follows. Nick and Ashley think back on their dates as they are separated by his deployment and strange things happen that seem to say they do belong together. Even moreso when Nick is hurt by bomb in Afghanistan and is missing in action. A wonderful and different christmas story dealing with military lives, romance, friends and even angels!
    Another Springsteen winner!
Kay has done it again! I could not put the book down until I finished.. There are so many things to like about this book.

Absolutely loved this book can't wait to get all of them x would highly recommend to any ww2 fanatic x
Very different to the normal war time story
Almost like 3 stories in one. There is a story that runs through this book as well as a different story that emerges. Very good. Well read!
Started off good but disappointing ending
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
The beginning promised a good story but a third of the way through the story got stale and I found myself disliking the main character also I found the ending unsatisfactory as if the author couldn't think how to finish the story all in all an OK book

I enjoyed this so much I read it twice, and went back to find the other books in this series.

A new author for me,looking for more of her books.Love lost and found
    Liked it.
Loved the whole series!! Cant wait for the next book. Karina keeps you on your toes right throughout! Next book pleeeeeese
Excellent end to a solid series!
I originally started reading this last month, but Lee's story has so much of the stories of his friends/SAS buddies in it that once I realized that 1) they all had their own books and 2) I had over a month and a half until this one was released, I decided to read them all first. Given the condition of the hero (he's been presumed dead for a year and a half), readers who aren't familiar with his friends learn as Lee does what has happened to them in the interim--so this could easily be read as a stand-alone. However, so many aspects and events will make more sense and gain more significance if one does know the characters already...so I am very glad that I did.
Karina Bliss made the "back from the dead" storyline work here. What I've loved about this series--besides the camaraderie and friendship between the characters--is that the very real problems and trauma that they've all experienced thanks to the explosion of that IED in Afghanistan aren't ever glossed over. Every one of them has had major issues to work through, and they have worked on them. No magic fixes or just forgetting about the problem here, thank goodness. Lee and Jules went through a lot in this book, which on top of everything they went through before the book started almost seems too cruel, but it all worked in the end. It made their HEA, when it finally came all the more believable. Ms. Bliss was totally right in her author note: Lee was impossible to replace. I'm so glad she didn't try!
This was a fantastic ending to a really good series. I can't wait to see where she goes next.
    (ARC received from NetGalley)
    A Prior Engagement
A Prior Engagement by Karina Bliss: This is the fourth book in the series, and I must state I have not read the three previous books. The first three books are as follows:
    Here Comes The Groom
    Stand-In Wife
    Bring Him Home
In A Prior Engagement: Lee Davis was serving in Afghanistan when his team was ambushed. For almost two years he has been a POW, 14 months of that time he was held by the Taliban. He has been beaten, tortured and suffered more than one person ever should. American Forces raided the camp where he was being held and freed him.

    It was ok
The conflict all revolved around the main characters issues with her previous decisions, and not so much with the male character. The conflict with the male character didn't build much, then happened quickly and was over. There was a fair amount of spelling and grammar mistakes which I found annoying. Overall, only ok.
    Good

    Surprisingly Interesting
It sounded like a good story, and the reviews were relatively positive. So I bought it. But I groaned when the introduction included the word, Harlequin. I like some love interest/romance in books I read but, first and foremost, I want a good story line. I have found, when reading books with a Harlequin connection, that I am frequently (although not always) reading a series of love/sex scenes, held together, very loosely, by a story line that seems to be secondary. My preference is the opposite order. But I bought it, and I wasn't going to waste the money. At least, I'd give it a try.
The story began immediately ... before character introduction. The reader/listener is dropped right into the action. By the time the first shot rang out, I was hooked.
Characterization was good ... they came off the page, with a three dimensional quality. And I was right there with them.
Chelsea Harrison is excellent with presenting all the characters, even the three year old. There is no trouble knowing who is speaking. At no time did I question the interpretation of any of the characters.
The entire book takes place in a fairly short time period. Background information is supplied, as needed, by characters reflecting backward.
It isn't a long read/listen, and it is an easy one. Good light reading/listening while relaxing. This is a little gem.

As the river rises, the pair retreat to the attic to ride out the storm - and discover a compelling attraction.
The daughter of two artists who were besotted with each other, Celia has always felt the odd woman out. She yearns to find a place she can call her own, a family of her own, and a life that has some stability and meaning. Her grandmother's farmhouse in Gideon has always represented that.
Eric fled his grim childhood in Gideon to find a life as an acclaimed blues guitarist, but that life has been taken from him too, and he's back in Gideon with a chip on his shoulder that hides the vast hunger he, too, feels to find his place, his home, his life. Waiting out the storm with sunny, optimistic Celia, he wonders if maybe there's a place in Gideon for him after all, in the arms of a woman who might know more than she thinks about acceptance.
A novel as rich and deep as a river, Jezebel's Blues is both a haunting love story and a tale of finding your way to accepting yourself.

    Wait for the revised copy
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
It was well spent all the way until I realize that the best part of the book was missing. I have already contacted the author and she will have the audiobook revised.
I love everything about Barbara Samuel's books the characters are smart, the story line will pull you in and the love is wonderful.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
I wouldn't change the story at all. The story is rich with details that are believable and creative. Again the characters are fully formed and makes you feel that they could be real. The characters inspire each other.
What about Nicole Colburns performance did you like?
She makes the story feel like the music the story talks about. She give the story a rich and moody atmosphere. You can feel the humidity and the heat from the summer and the river and how the characters fit into the town.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Yes. Samuel's has a great way of telling stories.
    Any additional comments?
I have read many of Samuel's stories and they all touch my heart and mind. The characters are strong and smart and the situations are very endearing and sometimes sad.
    Enjoyed writing
Would you try another book from Ruth Wind and Barbara Samuel and/or Nicole Colburn?
Yes. I have read several of Barbara Samuel's books and I love her writing. I would not listen to another book read by Nicole Coburn
If youve listened to books by Ruth Wind and Barbara Samuel before, how does this one compare?
This is the first time I have listened to a book by her
What didnt you like about Nicole Colburns performance?
Horrible!!! If I could give her some pointers, the first thing I would say is please pronounce the letter T in the middle of a sentences. She said buuuons instead of buttons, almost every word in the book that had a T in the middle was pronounced that way. It bugged me so much I couldn't get into the story. There were many other mispronunciations through the book.
    You didnt love this book...

    The Army Ranger's Return
THE ARMY RANGER'S RETURN by author Soraya Lane is from the M&B Cherish line and also released as Harlequin Romance.
Jessica joins a pen pal program and starts writing to a soldier, while she is undergoing cancer treatment in hospital.
Ryan's letters give her strength. As he is unaware of her treatment, on paper at least he treats her as a normal girl.
And Jessica's letters give Ryan the strength to face coming home and being a dad to his grieving motherless son.
Meeting at last, they realize they had a stronger bond between them.
Can Ryan's son forgive him for deserting him, just when he needed him more?
When will Jessica be able to tell Ryan, she had been undergoing treatment? To make matters worse Ryan lost his wife to cancer and can't cope with losing another person he loves.
THE ARMY RANGER'S RETURN was an emotionally charged story of a soldier returning home to America. It was a tender tale of a son waiting for his Dad's return. About what pen pals mean to the soldiers out on duty. And it was also the story of a cancer survivor. How Jessica copes, after losing her self-confidence. It was as much a story about recovering from grief and self-discovery as it is about the undeniable bond between Ryan and Jessica.
I felt Soraya Lane' hero, Ryan was the sort of person with whom you could just hold his hand and walk with him, whatever happens he won't break your heart.
At one point when Ryan kisses Jessica's wrist and she realizes that she loves him, I had to close the book and savor the emotions. I felt so moved. And when Ryan broke through the wall between him and his son? Major tissue moment!
A tender and fabulous friends-to-lovers romance. You'll be addicted from the first page.
The Army Ranger's Return is a wonderfully written and richly layered love story and a truly magical read!
    Touching Read
Can there be `love before first sight?' Jessica Mitchell has spent a year exchanging letters with US Army ranger Ryan McAdams. Their first meeting - predictably - gives her a lot of anxiety. There aren't just doubts about him - but she is full of self-doubt, as well as concealing a secret.
The wonderful thing is, each of them, through their letters, gave the other something to look forward to. The letters are cleverly shared, revealing so much more than they manage to stammer out in person. Ryan has seen the horror of battle and warn. He's known personal tragedy, as well as a personal failure. He's far from being the man his son needs to be.
At times, Jessica seems both bossy and silly. Ok, so she's likely right, especially about his son. And, possibly, he needs someone to point him in a better direction. However, is seems overly familiar considering they just met. As readers, it's easy to feel a bit impatient with Jessie, especially at the start.
