Okay introduction, but claims over evidence
    Any additional comments?
The book often felt somewhat superficial and annoyed me with its lack of rigor. I was hoping for a more reliable source on the topic. It often claimed that there would be a lot of evidence for things, but never provided any. Reported numbers like "D&I businesses outperformed others in 3 out of 5 years" mean nothing and could be entirely random without reporting more details (effect size?). Overall, though, a reasonable introduction to the topic with several nice case descriptions.
    Great perspectives
This Thales on tough topics with an approach that includes everyone and doesn't avoid the issues and problems that plague organizations in hoer Diversity and inclusion efforts
    Excellent listen
The book usefully explains about subconscious biases, insider groups, and other useful topics. It provides some good discussion topics at the end of each Chapter. It also provides some useful implementation approaches and supporting techniques.
    good investment
valuable insights, context and clear directional information. best "how to" type resource yet. Thank you.

    Title: On the Edge
Subtitle: The Art of High-Impact Leadership

    Narrator: Alison Levine
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 7 hrs and 27 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 01-07-14
    Publisher: Hachette Audio
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 97 votes
    Genres: Business, Leadership
    Publisher's Summary:
On the Edge is an engaging leadership manual that provides concrete insights garnered from various extreme environments ranging from Mt Everest to the South Pole. By reflecting on the lessons learned from her various expeditions, author Alison Levine makes the case that the leadership principles that apply in extreme adventure sport also apply in today's extreme business environments. Both settings require you to be able to make crucial decisions on the spot when the conditions around you are far from perfect. Your survival - and the survival of your team - depend on it. On the Edge provides a framework to help people scale whatever big peaks they aspire to climb - be they literal or figurative - by offering practical, humorous, and often unorthodox advice about how to grow as a leader.

    Get Your Butt in Gear!
Alison's adventures and leadership lessons can motivate anyone to be a better person, for themselves and their team. Give it a listen and you won't be disappointed.
    Incredibly Engaging!
The fact that the author is narrating the content adds substance to the story. the content of the audiobook is impacting and well supported. Alison does a great job connecting two worlds under one banner, leadership.
    A fairly good leadershp book...
What did you love best about On the Edge?
I truly loved the climbing aspects of the book. I was amazed at all the author's efforts and dedication to this incredible sport. Truly inspiring and admirable!!
What does Alison Levine bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Her ability to physically do all that was expected of her as a world class climber was incredible.
    Any additional comments?
I was given this book by my boss when I was recently promoted and opted to buy the audio version to give me something to focus on during my long commute. The facts of the story are very compelling but the overall tone of the writing was a bit less than inspiring. Perhaps if I was a new supervisor or new to leadership, I would have gained a bit more from her teaching moments. It almost seemed like the leadership points were a side-note rather than the point of the book. I enjoyed it but it was not as provocative or defining for me as the climbing experiences she detailed. She is an impressive world-class climber and I wouldn't feel worthy to carry her climbing boots, but as an inspiring communicator of leadership principles, she may have stepped outside of her element...
    What a great book!
This book combined the most interesting topics together (climbing and leadership) very well. Over the years, I found leadership books are boring and put me to sleep. Not this book!! It is captivating, funny, and to the point. Alison shared her most extraordinary experiences, yet very humbled. Then she combined it with leadership and teamwork. What a great idea!! Thank you for writing this awesome little book.
    Must read
I am not one for picking up a book and listening to someone tell me how to be a leader. This book is far from that. The reason I appreciate it so much is because she actually gives examples from her life experiences and applies it to her professional career. I enjoyed this book very much!

    Educational while inpirational

    Narrator: Julie Eickhoff
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 8 hrs and 41 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 06-27-13
    Publisher: University Press Audiobooks
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 27 votes
    Genres: Business, Leadership
    Publisher's Summary:
Listen to people in every field and you'll hear a call for more sophisticated leadership - for leaders who can solve more complex problems than the human race has ever faced. But these leaders won't simply come to the fore; we have to "develop" them, and we must cultivate them as quickly as is humanly possible. Changing on the Job is a means to this end.
As opposed to showing readers how to play the role of a leader in a "paint by numbers" fashion, Changing on the Job builds on theories of adult growth and development to help readers become more thoughtful individuals, capable of leading in any scenario. Moving from the theoretical to the practical, and employing real-world examples, author Jennifer Garvey Berger offers a set of building blocks to help cultivate an agile workforce while improving performance.
Coaches, HR professionals, thoughtful leaders, and anyone who wants to flourish on the job will find this book a vital resource for developing their own capacities and those of the talent that they support.
The book is published by Stanford University Press.
    Critic Reviews:
"A significant contribution towards re-imagining how we go about developing leaders. Jennifer invites leaders and those of us engaged in developing leaders to be more precise in our support and to think anew about the role that organizational context plays. This book calls on us to become more capable, agile, and better aligned with the increasing complexity of a global economy, while showing us how to stitch together an approach to our work that is fit for this task." (Sally DeWitt Miller, Director, Leadership Development Group, Microsoft Corporation)
"People have been asking for years, 'Where can I go for a rich, practical, and incisive guide to the relationship between adult-developmental theory and coaching?' Now there is an answer. You are holding it, and when you start reading it, it will hold you." In Over Our Heads, and co-author of
    Immunity to Change)

In Flat Army you'll find powerful leadership models and tools that help you challenge yourself and overcome your personal obstacles to change, while pushing the boundaries of organizational change to create a culture of collaboration.

    Great Insights for Collaborative Leadership
Dans sharing of collaborative and participative leadership is indeed what Dan stands for as an active leader inside and outside of TELUS. Dan walks the talk! I have experienced this having been on Dans team at TELUS for 5 years. Dan was truly a different type of leader and it was refreshing to see how Dan treated all members of our team as equals. He encouraged us to participate with our voice, develop our strengths and demonstrate what we brought to the team through our actions and results. Collaboration was key to our teams success. Flat Army is a very good read, well researched with many great examples and analogies to help all team members work together as one team.
No real value. somebody else should have narrated
this drags on and on. I listen for five chapters hoping that something would change but there was no way I could continue to go forward. I realized three or four times that I just completely lost it and it was occupied with something else because it had nothing to offer me. I hope somebody else learns at my expense and avoids this.
A bit slow for my taste, but a good listen.
Narrator voice is not as engaging as I would like, but not impossible to misten. a lot of really good ideas and tips on how to lead diffeent size elements in an organization.
