    Publisher's Summary:
There is no simple strategic method for dealing with the multidimensional nature of digital change. Even the sharpest leaders can become disoriented as change builds on change, leaving almost nothing certain. Yet to stand still is to fail. Enterprises and leaders must remaster themselves to succeed. Leaders must identify the key macro forces then lead their organizations at three distinct levels: industry, enterprise, and self. By doing this they can not only survive but clean up.
Digital to the Core makes the case that all business leaders must understand the impact the digital revolution will continue to play in their industries, companies, and leadership styles and practices. Drawing on interviews with over 30 top C-level executives in some of the world's most powerful companies and government organizations, including GE, Ford, Tory Burch, Babolat, McDonald's, Publicis, and UK Government Digital Service, this audiobook delivers practical insights from those on the front lines of major digital upheaval. The authors incorporate Gartner's annual CIO and CEO global survey research and apply the deep knowledge and qualitative insights they have acquired as practitioners, management researchers, and advisors over decades in the business. Above all else, Raskino and Waller want companies and their top leaders to understand the full impact of digital change and integrate it at the cores of their businesses.

Whether you're just starting out or you're a veteran change agent, Digital to the Core does an excellent job of organizing and presenting relevant information that every leader needs to not only no but thoroughly understand. As the book points out there's not a single business that is immune to the coming changes the digital era has already set in motion. I found myself wanting to ask questions of the author as I listen to the book. Questions about what other business have done, what can I do. I was pleased to find that my question were answered as the book progressed. I highly recommend this book to any business leader whether you're struggling with the jewel transformation for you believe everything is on the control this book has something to offer.
    Good, thought-provoking book
I found a lot of good ideas in this book. Highly recommend for CIO's and CEO's that want to start pushing their digital initiatives. My only gripe is that the narrator CANNOT pronounce the word "digital", which given the subject, is sometimes humorous, but often just annoying and distracting. I would consider re-recording it. It's that bad.
    Can your organisation transform?
Great book, with real life examples, to describe how transformation is possible.....

    Title: The Heart-Led Leader
Subtitle: How Living and Leading from the Heart Will Change Your Organization and Your Life
    Author: Thomas Spaulding
    Narrator: L. J. Ganser
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 5 hrs and 10 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 10-06-15
    Publisher: Recorded Books
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 55 votes
    Genres: Business, Leadership
    Publisher's Summary:
In his first book, It's Not Just Who You Know (which rose to number two on the New York Times best-seller list), world-renowned leadership speaker and former CEO of Up with People Tommy Spaulding talked about the power of building genuine and lasting relationships both personally and professionally.
In his new audiobook, The Heart-Led Leader, Spaulding turns his focus to ourselves - to who we are. Authentic leaders, Spaulding says, live and lead from the heart. The values and principles that guide our lives and shape our ability to lead others is far more important than our titles or our ability to crunch numbers or the impressive degrees we display on our walls. To effect true transformational change, heart-led leaders draw on the qualities of humility, vulnerability, transparency, empathy, and love.
Illustrated with stories from his own life and from some of the exceptional leaders he has met and worked with over the years, Spaulding unpacks what those qualities mean, talks about the 18-inch journey from the head to the heart - from our intellect to our emotions - and shows us how to incorporate them into our careers, into how we manage and lead others, and into how we live our lives. It is a vision of leadership that has the power to transform everything we do and the lives of everyone we touch.

    More of same
Not a bad book nor a bad concept, But there is nothing new or Earth-shattering. Very similar to many other Leadership books and the author did little more then coin a few catchphrases to change the semantics
    Simple Story
The stories shared how others transformed their organizations and the power of storytelling was reinforced, however transitioning these stories into heart-led leadership traits takes more guidedance that is provided in the book. There is a lot more to it!
    Inspirational and meaningful!
The Author is truly inspirational and yet the message is so simple- it comes down to love it all your dealings. The book contains amazing examples of selfless servant leadership. I highly recommend it!
    Fantastic leadership philosophy and book.
I've read hundreds of leadership books and this is easily among the best of them.
    fantastic for managers
loves it. exactly what I needed. we should all do a better job with leading with our hearts!!

    Language: English
    Release date: 09-15-15
    Publisher: HarperAudio
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 260 votes
    Genres: Business, Leadership
    Publisher's Summary:
The author of Power, Stanford business school professor, and a leading management thinker offers a hard-hitting dissection of the leadership industry and ways to make workplaces and careers work better.
The leadership enterprise is enormous, with billions of dollars, thousands of books, and hundreds of thousands of blogs and talks focused on improving leaders. But what we see worldwide is employee disengagement, high levels of leader turnover and career derailment, and failed leadership development efforts.
In Leadership BS Jeffrey Pfeffer shines a bright light on the leadership industry, showing why it's failing and how it might be remade. He sets the record straight on the oft-made prescriptions for leaders to be honest, authentic, and modest; tell the truth; build trust; and take care of others. By calling BS on so many of the stories and myths of leadership, he gives people a more scientific look at the evidence and better information to guide their careers.
Rooted in social science and with practical examples and advice for improving management, Leadership BS encourages listeners to accept the truth and then use facts to change themselves and the world for the better.

    Excellent Controversial book
Excellent narration and great book on pointing out the controversies of all the leaders.
    Excellent down to earth ideas
I started the book with great hesitation: is it just a cynic preaching cynicism? No. It is a book on the realities of life and what you will have to face if you want to climb certain highs. It seems that the only way to avoid these problems is thru entrepreneurship... And still, be mindful of the coup... Very good book, excellent narration .
    a very different leadership book
he may be on to something, business model of put your own oxygen mask first
Antidote to Bromides from Leadership Gurus
The leadership industry is full of inspirational, feel-good talk which does not match what the majority of organizational leaders look like. According to Pfeffer, most leaders act out of their own self-interest and are rarely held accountable for bad behavior. Individuals and organizations should recognize this and plan accordingly. Organizations should be made less leader-dependent, balances of power created, metrics and reward systems put in place that assume leaders act out of self-interest.
Probably the best book ever written on leadership
I long felt cynical about leadership in general and was always sceptical about the stories of inspirational leaders. This book have provide me with evidence and data to back up my conclusions.
We need a new look at how leaders are taught.

    Publisher's Summary:
Top down, one-dimensional leadership models are hopelessly outmoded in today's rapidly-changing world. And they waste the leadership ability that is present throughout an organization, not just at the top.
In this visionary audiobook, Karen and Henry Kimsey-House provide a model that harnesses the possibility of many rather than relying on the power of one. They begin with a new definition of leadership itself: "Leaders are those who are responsible for their world." Which, of course, we all are, or should be - so everyone is a leader.
Co-Active Leadership is a deeply collaborative approach, but the first of its five dimensions focuses on the individual: leading from within. We must be fully present and live lives of integrity, openheartedness, and self-awareness if we are to make the kind of conscious, creative choices Co-Active Leadership demands.
Each of the remaining four dimensions work together holistically. Depending on the situation, you may lead from the front, offering guidance and inspiration; from behind, supporting and encouraging others; from beside, partnering with and supporting other members of your team; or from the field, drawing on insights and wisdom available beyond the rational mind.
Co-Active Leadership is the only model to celebrate and honor these different expressions of leadership. It invites all of us to share our expertise and allows collaborative solutions to emerge that would never have been possible otherwise.

Don't miss out on this valuable information
There are pearls of wisdom in this book for every human being. It will make an impact on interactions with family, friends, your community and business.
    Great Value for Group Reflection!
I've read scores of books on leadership. This is the one I find far best for sharing within organizations or groups, as well as being outstanding for any individual no matter what your temperament. The insight that each of us belongs in 5 different leadership roles, shifting often from one to another within our group, is a big "Aha." This book is short enough to work well for a collective read-reflection.
Great book as always from the Kimsey Houses
A short look into this emerging form of leadership. Some valid points and examples. My top up of Kimsey House goodness. Thank you

    Title: Boss Life
Subtitle: Surviving My Own Small Business
    Author: Paul Downs
    Narrator: Jonathan Hogan
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 12 hrs and 28 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 08-04-15
    Publisher: Recorded Books
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 157 votes
    Genres: Business, Leadership
    Publisher's Summary:
When columnist Paul Downs was approached by the New York Times to write for their You're the Boss blog, he had been running his custom furniture business for 24 years strong - or mostly strong. Now he embarks on a book-length essay that intends to show a portrait of a real business, with a real boss, a real set of employees, and the real challenges they face, in hopes of promoting a better understanding of the behaviors of small-business owners.
In 1986, fresh out of college, Paul Downs opened his first and last business: a small company that built custom furniture. With no idea how to run a business or how to build custom furniture, Downs spent a year teaching himself the business, and in 1987 he hired his first employee. That was when things got complicated.
As his business began to grow, he had to learn about management, cash flow, taxes, and so much more. Furthermore, globalization and the arrival of the Internet made a big impact on the economy, causing him to have to reevaluate, restructure, and reinvent. Most important, Downs is keenly aware that every small business, no matter the product it makes or the service it provides, starts with people. He writes with tremendous insight about hiring employees, providing motivation to get the best jobs out of them and incentive to maintain their loyalty and respect, and the difficult decisions he's made to let some of them go.
With honesty and conviction, Downs tells the true story behind building and sustaining a successful company in an ever-evolving economy, often airing his own failures and shortcomings to unveil the difficulties that arise from being a boss and a businessperson. We've heard countless stories from employees about their managers; Boss Life seeks to tell the other side of that story.

    Close to home
I heard Paul Downs on WNYC Brian Lehrer this week and knew that I needed to read or listen to this book. As a small business owner in the trades, I feel profoundly related to his account of a year in the life of a boss. And feel understood.
Particularly resonant are his explanations of the complexities of the cash flow cycle, and the difficulty in finding craftsmen who are both good workers and good communicators.
I plan to recommend this book to peers and employees. And may even convene a book club to discuss how we can incorporate some of insights into the business.
    Paul, thanks for writing this!
    Disappointed
Not much to take from this book, unless you own a custom furniture business. Stopped listening half way through.
    VERY INSIGHTFUL-
I am the boss of a small woodworking company. I found this book extremely insightful in terms of what the day-to-day operations of a large scale furniture manufacturing company is like in United States these days.

    Publisher's Summary:
    Preview:
Team of Teams by General Stanley McChrystal is an examination of the process he began of restructuring the Joint Special Operations Command management style, from a rigid command structure to a cooperative team comprised of smaller specialized teams. While fighting Al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI), General McChrystal noted how the United States and coalition militaries were efficient war-fighting machines, but they were not adaptable or effective against the seemingly disordered AQI. In 2005, after a particularly destructive terrorist attack at the opening of a sewage plant near Baghdad, McChrystal began considering whether the efficient structure was actually hindering the counterinsurgency, preventing them from responding to threats in real time and delaying the capture of AQI leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.
Modern military management originated at the 1900 World's Fair, when Frederick Winslow Taylor revealed his work in steel production efficiency. Taylor believed that there is a right way to do any given thing....

Not the book only a Preface
This was disappointing - I thought I was buying the book. It was not clear that I was not buying the book. Very disappointing.
Use for deciding to read the entire book or not
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
If you're considering reading "Team of Teams" this summary is worthwhile. If you're looking to gain the same value as reading the whole thing, forget it. I had the chance to hear McChrystal last week and was pleasantly surprised. Instead of hearing a review of his leadership and military experience (interesting but not terribly useful) he gave what I considered valuable insight into some of the changes many organizations (including terrorist and military organizations) are going through.
    Not worth the time
The robotic reading of this summary is mindnumbing, it's like hearing a story read by the maid from the Jetsons.
    Solid professional read
very descriptive and relevant read. Applicable to business, military, and everyday life. highly recommend this book.
new leadership effectiveness for business teams
I enjoyed this book, it is simple, understandable, and directly applicable as new methods to bring results, build trust, build up leadership equity, and build in agile response to project deliverables.

What did you like best about A Summary of Built to Last: Successful Habits of Visionary Companies by Jim Collins and Jerry I. Porras? What did you like least?
This wasn't the narrator's fault or anything. I didn't like this because it was soooooo squished together that it was hard to actually get anything out of. I've gone through abridged versions of books before and this was not one of my favorites.
    summary?
