mind-blowing twists and turns in this thriller

The Good Spy Dies Twice is an action-packed, psychological thriller that never lets up. Jack Boxer is a newlywed, ex-investigative journalist and ex-host of Bullseye as well as a man tortured by the death of his sound man. Add in the Cold War, double agents, a lost painting and greed to complete the psychological thrill and mystery of this book.

Recovering from a nervous breakdown, Jack comes face to face with espionage and the New World Order in Alaska at an isolated ski resort. Having lost his sound man to the New World Order and espionage, Jack is taken by surprise when he discovers his new wife is neck-deep in spying where she texts him the same words as a recently executed killer. Jack discovers that Claire (his wife) is writing an earth shattering news story that is Bullseye worthy.

Trapped in a closed resort facing starvation, starving wolves and members of the New World Order, Jack is left to save the day. Can he get those few left with him to a safe place before the bomb arrives or will they all meet the same fate as his sound man? Recovering from a near death experience and crippled with a broken back, Jack pushes forward to tell the world.

Mark Hosack creates a world where the Cold War still exists and there are mind-blowing twists and turns in this thriller that keeps the listener mesmerized. The Good Spy Dies Twice is a well-written plot with characters that are developed in a realistic way. The situations that Jack finds himself are realistic as well. Hosack describes the helplessness of Jack not being able to find Claire to the possibility of being wolf food in a vivid and detailed style. Hosack does an excellent job of tying everything together and in growing Jack into a character that connects to the listeners.

The narrator, also the author Mark Hosack does his novel justice as the listener is treated to a passionate performance and the smooth flow of a narrator connecting to the story. He speaks clearly and concisely. His passion, excitement, doubt, fear, pain and more are portrayed in a riveting performance.

There were no issues with the quality or production of this audiobook.

Dangerous Webs of Deceit

As a fan of Joakim Zander's first book, 'The Swimmer', I looked forward to this new novel. The Swimmer was more of a spy novel, and that is what I hoped for in this book. 'The Believer' has some, very little, of the spy novel but it is mixed in with three stories told by three different characters.

We meet Fadi a young Swede, who tells us his story of his upbringing with his sister, Yasmine. A tough life for both of them,and Yasmine is lucky enough to escape Bergort, Sweden with another artist, David for New York. Things go south, David becomes involved in drugs, and, though Yasmine feels beholden, she is strong enough to leave. She has inadvertently taken a job as an art consultant who finds other young artists at a company's request. Yasmine receives a text that her brother, Fadi, has died as a result of his recruitment into the ISIS in Syria. And, then she finds he may be alive. She lands a job that brings her to Stockholm, and she begins a search for her brother.

At the same time we are re-introduced to Kara Waldeen. We met her in the first book, The Swimmer. She has a new job as a researcher in a human rights institute. This new job brings her to Stockholm where she crosses paths with Yasmine. Several events take place that bring them together. The mystery of how and why they meet, the mystery of Fadi, is he dead or alive, are the crux of this novel.

I found it took me half of this book to comprehend all of the characters and how they interact. The three antagonists tell their own story. The plot line does not run smoothly. This did turn out to be a wildly fascinating book.

unique and well done

Tears of Glass by David Lake is an unusual listen with its unique production of the written word and weaving it successfully with a sound track of music representing the late 60s-80s time period. The music connects with the listener reminding them of a time long gone and yet hooks the listener with its beatand lyrics.

Morgan is a man who finds himself a failure at everything he has done from his jobs to his career in songwriting to relationships. Now he finds that his friendship circle is growing increasingly smaller due to weird accidents. Accidentally, he becomes involved with government secrets, nuclear war, international espionage and more all because of his passion for 60s-80s blues music and a rejected demo tape from a blues artist. Not overly aware at first, he finds himself on the run confused and having to deal with things larger than ever. Given his penchant for failure, will this be yet one more or will he manage to live a long life?

It is sometimes hard to keep up with all the conspiracies and characters. Lake is a masterful wordsmith describing vividly his characters and the plight they find themselves. The plot and music are cohesive and enhance one another brilliantly. The characters are well-developed and are clearly flawed but real. Lakes skillful writing and the music choice takes the listener and dumps them smack in the middle of the action. Mixed with darkhumor and action, one cannot help but become part of the story.

The audiobook was very well written and performed by Fred Filbrich. Filbrich is a talented narrator who spoke clearly and concisely but also became the characters. I thought he kept a steady pace with his reading. His voice was steady and calming, delivering the dark humored responses appropriately and well.

The book, in my opinion was unique and well done. With that being said and my passion for classic rock, I found the music distracting at first. But after listening carefully to the words and recognizing how they interconnected with the story, I was fine with it. Could it have been done without the music? Yes, but it might not have been as powerful.

The audio production of this book was good except for hearing Fred Filbrich swallow all too often. I suspect the mike was too close. Other than this, the production was high quality.

Great Concept, Fast Paced

Weak plot

This is the first Stella Remington novel that I have not been really gripped by, most of the others have been tense and exciting but I fear this was written too quickly without a full raft of ideas, although I would not recommend this I would most of the others. Ash

Hickory Dickory Dead wow!

Cheryl Bradshaw has done it again. She has brought a character to life. This book pulls you in right away. Maisie Fezziwig is a sassy senior citizen. She is determined to find answers to this mystery and no one will get in her way. I don't want to give any of.it away. Maisie is a 70 year old who rules her world. Love her sassy attitude and her fear of nothing. Now I not only think Sloane Monroe is my favorite character, Miss Maisie is also a favorite. I hope there will be more.

Maisie is a Senior with Sassy Attitude Galore!

I am really liking Maisie Fezziwig. I'm hoping this is the first of many to come. Her breezy, sassy, knocking it dead with attitude has me just loving this senior citizen. She's lost loves but there are more on standby. I find it so amusing that she's got younger admirers and whether the love interest from the end of the hook continues in the future or whether she becomes a cougar, we'll just have to wait and see. This is a quick fun read that you'll enjoy reading. It would make a good beach or poolside read also.

Grew story

My only problem with this book is that it was marketed as a cozy mystery. The beginning was far too graphic to be classified as cozy. I like good hard boiled mysteries also so I came back when the mood was more action. It turned out to unfold more like a cozy. It was a good read and the mystery was just twisted enough to be interesting. The characters were interesting but Stuart's death seemed not to have a purpose except make Maudie sad.

This style is new to me....

And I don't care for it like the "Sloan" books, but i enjoyed it enough to finish reading. Maisie is an older widow who really misses her husband and her style of life is just different than mine. I'm not criticizing, just an observation. It kept me interested with very different characters, but I probably won't read another of this series. Her other series???? You betcha!!!! C:o)

Cute

Easy to read and fun with a few good twists to the plot, but a bit too simple and not too realistic for me. Overall a good summer read.

Pretty Good

This book was a little better than the first one. As I look back over this and the previous one though, I think I am unduly influenced by the ABSOLUTELY AWFUL narration. I seriously doubt that Ridgeway even took the time to read the book through before he started recording. The characters sound angry all the time. He'll raise his voice forcefully only to add "she whispered". Could I do better? Probably anyone who listens to this book could do better.

Mike Ryan is a very good writer. Plenty good action and I was thrown for a loop a couple of times when something happened I didn't expect, which I love in a book. The story is a good one and, (IN SPITE OF THE NARRATION) I will start the next book. I'm a fan of Mr. Ryan's Silencer and Ghost series and push my way through the storm of really bad narration so that I can get to the conclusion.

Poor narration and performance

This narrator has a terrible time pronouncing words and his delivery is boring. The narrator of the first book was much better. The performance killed the story with uneasy pauses, wheezy delivery, and slurred speech.

Couldn't finish, narration was too bad

Not nearly as good as book 1, narration was so bad I couldn't even finish. :(
