    Why Half A Book?
    Any additional comments?
I'd like at least 10 hours out of a book. Combine 3 of Fuchs books and you'd feel like you're getting your money's worth. The story is great, but I don't like burning a full credit for a novella.
    Must Have More
Every book I have ever purchased narrated by RC Bray has been a winner!
This one is a cracker! I gave the zombie genre a break for a couple of purchases and I was looking for a good old fashion action bash'em crash'em style story, and boy did I hit the jackpot with this one.
The narration is excellent. The perfect speed to listen to for me was 1.25x speed. Which leads me to my biggest gripe with this one. It was too short, just over 5 hours in length, and even though I think Bray is one of the best narrators around, he is not exactly fast. So when you speed it up just a tad, the listening time is even shorter! This next book in the series should have been combined with this one! So in reality this one has been one of the most expensive in the genre per minute to listen too. I'm not so sure I am happy with that fact.
Ok with my gripes aside. I can honestly say this is one of the best in this genre
    Spec Ops VS the Dead
    Any additional comments?
This entire series is excellent! I listened to all of them within a few days and found it hard to turn off. Very well written and performed. The main characters are military Spec Ops types and Fuchs' has either been there or done his research well. One of the great things about the story is that even though these guys (and girls) are tough, trained and well armed they are still almost outmatched by the undead. Nobody is safe as they struggle to stay a half step ahead of the zombie hoardes, not to mention all the other pitfalls of post apocalypse civilization (supplies running low, fuel & ammo scarce, equipment failing, buildings structurally unsound). The anxiety and intensity level is off the chart and it is a non stop fight for survival.

    Publisher's Summary:
The fourth novel in the acclaimed cult-favorite series starring necromancer Johannes Cabal
Horst Cabal has risen from the dead - again.
Horst, the most affable vampire one is ever likely to meet, is resurrected by an occult conspiracy that wants him as a general in a monstrous army. Their plan is to create a country of horrors, a supernatural homeland. As Horst sees the lengths to which they are prepared to go and the evil they cultivate, he realizes that he cannot fight them alone. What he really needs on his side is a sarcastic, amoral, heavily armed necromancer.
As luck would have it, this exactly describes his brother.

    I can never get enough!
This was wonderful I have to say, it's potentially my favorite in the series with all of the humor I've come to love of the series and all of the semi-horror.
I especially like the way the author ended the story with his notes and epilogues, and it has to be said that the reader (Nicholas Guy Smith) has done an excellent job of bringing the whole varied cast of characters to life.
    YESSS!
Book 3, The Fear Institute, was good, but dragged a little. The Brothers Cabal is a true return to form. Hilarious, interesting, no philosophical filler. This time around, Horst Cabal takes center stage and he is hilarious. This is one of the rare books that will have you laughing out loud while listening to your headphones. Jonathan Howard has definitely carved out his own world for his Cabal series, and I can't wait to see what he thinks up next.
    Very good
Much better then the pervious book. I am glad that I gave it a chance after being slightly disappointed by the last one.
    grand adventure
love these books. really, vampires, zombies, and taking boxes. what more could you possibly ask for?
    just love the brothers..
great book as you really get the by play of the brothers cabal. Plus who can not enjoy the reading of the book in the dry wit that makes the series so enjoyable.

Uncle Jack has been very naughty
Up until recently Keith Blackmore's first two zombie books 'The Hospital' And 'Mountain Man' had been one of my all-time favourite zombie stories. So I had been eagerly awaiting this one for some time. I pre-purchased Safari: Mountain Man 2 on the strength of those first two. But unfortunately for Mountain Man 2 I had just finished listening to several other zombie books which were really very entertaining. The opposition for this one had certainly stepped up a notch or two. Those other books were Chris Philbrooks Adrians Undead Diary, Timothy Longs Z-Risen and Eloise J Knapps The Undead Situation.
I suspect I suffered from having built this one up too much over the time. But nevertheless it was very entertaining. I pretty much listened to this one in one sitting. All of the things I liked about the first one are still here in book two. Gus, the crazy man who speaks to his bottle of grog and calls it uncle Jack. The comic book style action which makes me feel young at heart!
The main character, well pretty much the only character Gus is once again the sort of bloke that I feel I would like to get to know!
The story is further developed by introduction of other enemies for our lovable character Gus. Dont worry, I wont give it away, but I can tell you the new enemies are not all human!
Once again the narrator does a brilliant job with matching up the voice to Gus. R C Brays narration now has a major impact on my purchasing decision he is that good!
In summary, I loved it. Not as much as the first, but it is funny, entertaining and the narrators voice is pleasant. I have already pre-purchased the next in the series. If you like zombie stories, or want to give one spin. Then I would highly recommend this series. Keith Blackmores first The Hospital is a short story and is only 2 hours long (very cheap on audible) and will give you a good taste for the Mountain Man series.
    great follow-up!
    Any additional comments?
safari picks up right where the mountain man left off. gus has just fought off roxanne and her boyfriend's gang. his house is trashed and full of dead bodies, but there's no rest for gus. even though he has had the crap beat out of him by roxie, he has to attend to things, and the first being his shattered teeth. roxie's knee to his face has broken some of his teeth, and in one grisly scene, gus has to play dentist.
gus is haunted by his betrayal and the loss of his friend, scott. he drowns his demons with booze and killing zombies. safari is darker than the mountain man as gus' loneliness causes him to hallucinate and to start losing some of his humanity.

    Reaches For The Sky
[This review is based on an advanced copy received by the publisher through NetGalley.]
Blightborn, the latest release from the ever-prolific Chuck Wendig, and second in his cornpunk The Heartland Trilogy, follows swiftly on the heels of Under The Empyrean Skyâs conclusion.
With the world building out of the way, and many of the main castâs rivalries set up in Empyrean, Blightborn allows Wendig to go hog-wild and blow stuff up, upend expectations, and expand on the premise of The Heartland series in fine fashion.
When last we saw the intrepid crew of the sky ship Betty
    - spoilers for Under The Empyrean Sky -
Cael had learned that his father was illegally growing fresh produce and had killed the mayor. His girlfriend, Gwennie, was a lottery winner and elevated, along with her family, to live aboard one of the Empyreanâs floating cities and escape the hardscrabble life of the dirt-farming Heartlanders. Needless to say, Cael wasnât going to let that happen without a fight, and he and his teenage crew of Blue Sky Scavengers set out to cross the desolation of the Heartland and, somehow, win her back. Unfortunately, that ticked the hell out of his Obligated bride-to-be, and the dead mayorâs son, and rival to Cael for Gwennieâs affections, had an awful large score to settle.
Returning to these characters in Blightborn, Wendig delivers fully on the conflicts established at the close of book one, and creates even larger obstacles for his cast to contend with, while driving new wedges between them. As expected, the Empyreanâs lottery is a double-edged sword: the promise of elevation too good to be true, and it comes wrapped in the caul of class-warfare. As Gwennie quickly learns, life in the Empyrean sky is hardly a joy, and even less so for a pure-bred Heartlander like she and her family, who are separated, exiled, and forced into labor.
Beneath the floating flotilla, Cael and his friends are trying to make it to a loading depot, with grand designs of boarding a sky ship (after losing Betty in the previous book) and making their way upward.

    Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Sci-Fi: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
Kiernan Dunne abandoned his family ties to help Kate fight the Cyrists, and he's never regretted that for one moment. But he doesn't understand why Kate can't remember that night in 1893 Chicago, when she turned back to face the killer chasing them through the smoky corridors of the World's Fair Hotel. Kate placed the CHRONOS key around his neck and made his eight-year-old self promise to wear it always, and that's a promise Kiernan has never broken.
When Kate suddenly vanishes after a Cyrist-engineered time shift, that hidden medallion is Kiernan's only hope for finding her. He returns to the Cyrist fold to look for clues, but his search will lead him back to the question that has haunted him for years - what really happened after he left Kate at the World's Fair Hotel?
This digital novella gives Timebound lovers a glimpse at Kate in another timeline and helps set the stage for Time's Edge, the second book in The CHRONOS Files Series, coming from Skyscape in October.
    Members Reviews:
Skip the Novella and Read Book #2
You will learn nothing new in this book that you will not learn by just reading book 2. I was hoping to get a better understanding of Kate and Kiernan's bond, but there was nothing, it was such a waste. The plot action also leads nowhere new. Skip the novella and just read book 2.
Finally a novella for my favorite character
Would you listen to another book narrated by Nick Podehl?
I didn't think he did a very good job with the accent. Sometimes he had one, and sometimes he didn't, which was very confusing.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
This was a pretty short book, so I think I finished it in two. I was disappointed by the narration, and considered stopping part way through the book, but decided to power through.
    Any additional comments?
While I didn't love this book, I was very happy to get a little more information about my favorite character from the series. Kiernan Dunne is a great character.
    Cash Grab
What disappointed you about Time's Echo?
Ridiculously short, costs more than the second book in the series! Barely adds anything to overall story. Not for children.
What was most disappointing about Rysa Walkers story?
This whole book could condensed into 1 chapter of the main story. This is a complete cash grab.
What three words best describe Nick Podehls voice?
    Decent OK average
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Time's Echo?
All of them, and incorporated the last couple chapters into the main books.
    Any additional comments?
This book and second in the series contain (unnecessary) sexual themes. I will not be allowing my kids to listen.
A nice side trip from the first book
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I you have read/listened to Timebound and want to get some of the story from other views it is a great book.
The narration was good until it got to the female voices for some reason the voice used pulled me out of the book.
What did you like best about this story?
hearing some other viewpoints of the story
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Nick Podehl?
someone with a better range for female voices
Was Time's Echo worth the listening time?
    yes
    Nice companion to the series
Admittedly I loved Kiernan from the first book, Timebound, so I was very excited to get his point of view.

The award-winning author of Blue Remembered Earth continues his saga as the next generation of the Akinya family crosses interstellar space seeking humanity' s future...
Chiku Akinya, great granddaughter of the legendary space explorer Eunice and heir to the family empire, is just one among millions on a long one way journey towards a planet they hope to call their new home. For Chiku, the journey is a personal one, undertaken to ensure that the Akinya family achieves its destiny among the stars.
The passengers travel in huge self-contained artificial worlds - holoships - putting their faith in a physics they barely understand. Chiku' s ship is called Zanzibar - and over time, she will discover it contains an awesome secret - one which will lead her to question almost every certainty about her voyage, and its ultimate destiny.
    Members Reviews:
Earthier, narrower, more feminine than AR's work
Taking the history he created in Blue Remembered Earth forward another generation, Alastair Reynolds succeeds in teasing the readers interest in the alien mystery waiting at the end of a 200-year old journey, but keeps the scope of events surprisingly restrained for an author known to write in cosmic epochs that laugh at stacks of expired civilizations. Again, he keeps his dramatic perspective on one single family, which can really be said to in fact be one person, duplicated across three cloned bodies who occasionally synchronize their mind states. This concept I found fun, and made for some interesting moments as the separate lives of our tri-fold protagonist, Chiku Akinya, reconciled herselves with the existence of multiple husbands/lovers and families at either end of her dual lives. There is also some great world building here within one of the main settings for the action, the asteroid-sized holoship traveling as part of a caravan to a new and promising alien world. Reynolds, in 2001s "Chasm City", has previously written about a rivalry between en-route colony generation ships which violently escalates once the prize comes into sight, but with much more believability here. The other two setting loci, Earth and the destination world of Crucible, both have similar challenges for the Chiku heroines in the form of an all-powerful artificial intelligence willing to kill in order to ensure its own survival. Like Chiku, this intelligence, Arachne, has been cloned across two distant star systems, but these have remained un-syncronized, and have begun to drift apart in their thinking towards humanity.
The story has well-paced action scenes that dont rush in too close together, and characters that are compelling to follow, though a bit too saintly and flawless, I felt. I think a reader who hasnt read the earlier story would feel unsatisfied with this one, and clearly too many questions remain unanswered to give up on ready the series now.
Adjoa Andohs narration is impressive for its commitment to thickly, haltingly accented English coming from a variety of multi-national characters, but being impressive is not the same as being enjoyable. Whether its the baseline Swahili accent of the protagonist, the guttural fish-man accent from the aquatic mer-people, the crafty old lady variant of the earlier swahili accent (this one used for no less than 3 characters), I found them all just a little too over-the-top.

    A good continuation...
What did you love best about Planet Strike?
Like I did with BV Larson I also came late to Vaughn Heppner but now he is one of my go to authors for the very definition of military SciFi. Planet Strike is a great addition to this, my favorite genre and I hope to see this series grow.
    Great Story!
Very cool story. Has lots of Drama and Action. Very good Narration. Battles in differant Universes. Will wait for book 3 to come out!
Creed Is Locked on Vengeance Mode
What did you love best about Planet Strike?
This audiobook is no nonsense military sci-fi. Planet Strike's message is basic and unambiguous - If you fuck with Earth, Creed will find you and destroy you and everything and everyone you hold dear.If you are looking for some light-hearted story with quirky backstories about some twerp's coming of age amidst an unsympathetic blah, blah, blah don't come looking for it here. Vaughn Heppner has no time for that nonsense, nor do I. Hence, I gobbled this audiobook up as soon as I saw it. Why? Because Vaughn frickin' Heppner wrote it! Listen to any of his audiobooks and it will become very clear very quick that his man knows his craft. Planet Strike is no exception.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Creed. He dominates the action. He does not back down, nor does he give a rat's ass about who is trying to browbeat or intimidate him - and several different puffed up alien admirals, a smarmy princess, some has been of a space pirate and a couple of humans try - all to no avail. If you stand in his way, you will soon be either vaporized into a reddish cloud of mist or cleavered into bits by him and his wonder axe he found in the bowels of that planet he invaded at the end. Either way, you are screwed. Creed is a leader of men.

Great book! If you liked Book 1, get it
There's "hole" in the recording at 6:13:37, it seems to skip a few seconds - by no means does it hurt the story, or even detract. Just an error in the recording.
With that out of the way, this is a REALLY good book and can't wait for Book 3. Like book 1 it leaves you hanging and wanting more. If you liked Book 1 you'll like Book 2
    When will book 3 be released?-great follow-up
Would you consider the audio edition of Event Horizon to be better than the print version?

What did you like best about this story?
    Great follow-up to Perseid Collapse
    Which scene was your favorite?
    too many to list
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    yes
    Any additional comments?
    Great series...where is book 4-5...
    Slightly better than book 1
But who knows how many more incomplete books in this series. Picked up both Book 1 and 2 at same time, excited for something similar to "Jakarta Pandemic"... and even using the same family. Didn't even bother to read the reviews... my mistake, first of all this is a series... which doesn't have natural end spots, rather he chooses the most intense spot to stop in both 1 & 2 and no end in sight. It is a fairly clean read, but the violence is WAY more intense than Jakarta and it plays heavily into the military role post event. This is slightly better than the first... writing not as sloppy and more about the family, less about Rambo. Better books than this: "One Second After," "Equipping Modern Patriots," "Objects of Wrath," "Cyber-Storm," "Swan Song," "Alas Babylon," "77 Days in September"... and "Jakarta Pandemic." If you have to choose a never-ending series... I like "The Survivalist Series" better. Wait until more of the books are out and wait for a sale, it wasn't horrid...

A towering epic to rank with Douglas Preston's Blasphemy and Michael Crichton's Prey
Pandemic drought, skyrocketing oil prices, dwindling energy supplies, and wars of water scarcity threaten the planet. Only four people can prevent global chaos.
Gary Morgan - a brilliant renegade scientist pilloried by the scientific community for his belief in a space elevator: a pillar to the sky, which he believes will make space flight fast, simple, and affordable.
Eva Morgan - a brilliant and beautiful scientist of Ukranian descent, she has had a lifelong obsession to build a pillar to the sky, a vertiginous tower that would mine the power of the sun and supply humanity with cheap, limitless energy forever.
Gunther Rothenberg - the ancient but revered rocket scientist who labored at Peenemünde with von Braun to create the first rockets and continued on to build those of today. A legend, he has mentored Gary and Eva for two decades, nurturing and encouraging their transcendent vision.
Franklin Smith - the eccentric Silicon Valley billionaire who will champion their cause, wage war with Congress and government bureaucracy, and most important, finance their herculean undertaking.
This journey to the stars will not be easy; it will be a tumultuous struggle filled with violence and heroism, love and death, spellbinding beauty and heartbreaking betrayal. The stakes could not be higher. Humanity's salvation will hang in the balance.

    A big disappointment
I have read many of Mr Forstchens books and generally enjoyed them so, when I saw this book, I naturally added it to my wish list and, when I wanted something light to read, I bought it. The book purports to be a novel about the building of a space based platform allowing humans to both inexpensively bring objects into space and to collect unlimited solar power for distribution on earth, both worthy goals, but the story was a considerable disappointment to me.
First of all the book does not feel like a novel, but rather like a sales brochure for a set of ideas. The characters are comic book simple and one dimensional - either completely selfless, generous and kind or selfish, undeserving and evil hearted. It feels as though there are no real people in this book. Second, the situations in the book also do not feel real. While the underlying concept is probably scientifically sound and within reach of people in the next 20 or so years, the idea that a couple of people could produce the core functionality with the funds generated mostly by one individual seems wishful thinking at best and the idea that the hidden lie behind the first effort would not raise a legal ruckus and shut down the project just feels unreasonable. But, of course, the investors, all very wealthy people, are all selfless and willing to give and give and give, even when lied to. It is all a very pretty concept, but I would like to know what planet Mr Forstchen thought he was writing about.
There is more. There seems to be very little of the tension that often makes books interesting. There is virtually no question about what is going to happen, when it is going to happen and how it will be resolved.

Story starts off small and gets huge
Every once in a while, a story comes along and sweeps me away, this was one of them. This is a huge expansive story that started out with a dream of a boy that ends up challenging everything we see around us and who we are as humans in the universe. It's a slow building story that keeps cranking up over decades and leaves you wondering what is going to happen next and what does happen you don't expect. The author doesn't take the easy way out, the guy guy doesn't always win. It's a mixture of philosophy, hard SciFi, a love story and it stretches the brain. Check it out, it might leave you changed like all great books should.
    WOW, THAT WAS SOME STORY
BEING BORED IS SOMETHING WE LEARN IN SCHOOL
Was that 21 hours or 21 minutes. I am the Impatient one, but I listened to every word. This. excellently written story drew me in.
    HE WAS SUCH A ROMANTIC
This book took several turns, so many it is hard to place it in one genre. There is almost no Science Fiction in the entire first half of the book and only a tiny bit of fantasy. I normally need a lot of bang, excitement or wonderment to keep listening, but the first half had none of that. The first half is character development. I became invested in the characters. Had it stayed that way throughout I still would have been happy, but later Science does happen. When it happens, it happens in a big way and gets bigger and bigger. At first I was reminded of Blood Music by Greg Bear and than it was more like Daniel Suarez. Through out is a running romance, kind of similar to Forrest Gump. He loves her from the beginning and always. She falls for the bad boy (the opposite of him), and others. He follows his dreams, while she gets sidetracked. She gets sick, etc... The book covers a lot of time and a lot of countries.
    FATE
Early on there are conversations that just seem that, conversations. Have fate that they will return in a big way.
PERHAPS THERE WERE FEWER CONSEQUENCES IN LIFE THAN PEOPLE THOUGHT.
With the exception of the maybe over done voice of the main bad boy, the narrator was so good I didn't realize he was there. His voice seemed like the voice in my head. I had to consciously think I am listening to be aware of the narrator.
    fun listen
Very hard to put down, and many sleepless nights listening.
