Decent but possibly written for teens?

I like the concept and story but not very creative in the technical aspects. The same points are reiterated over and over, as if written for children.

Free the Care Bears!

Operation First Strike continues. The Human Federation, solely with AI Arials help, has destroyed two alien AI ships with the Devastator 3 missiles shocking the Hocklyn Empire. Never in the alien AIs history has an AI ship been damaged much less destroyed. With the realization that the AI ships can be destroyed Operation First Strike will go forward. An enslaved alien race known as Carethians in system Careith resembling bears (Care Bears?) has been freed and will ally itself with the Human Federation of Worlds. Their planet will become a Forward Operating Base (FOB) and a huge benefit for the Federation. The alien AI is determined to destroy the humans once and for all. They have the Hocklyns assembling a very large fleet with updated weapons and shields to attack the Federation. Along with the Hocklyn fleet at least five AI ships will be included. Could not stop listening

Addicted to this series. The narrator Liam Owen takes this series to a higher level

it's a very good story concept.

I have listened to the other books in this series. the writing is definitely not for the adults. the performance is on a three stars level. if you have a low tolerance for repetitive writing, above-average performance then I would suggest not listening to this book, or this series. the story concept is good so it's become a love-hate relationship for me.

Great story poorly executed

Would you try another book from Raymond L. Weil and/or Liam Owen?

This series is one that I hate to love. The writing is amateurish. The dialog between characters is unnatural. And the reliance on adjectives is over the top. Finally, while placing females in positions of power and authority, the author failed to give them strong voices. In almost every situation, females are portrayed as demure and event passive...not strong presence one expects from Captains and Admirals. All of this is distracting to what is a great story. I find myself suffering through the poor execution in order to find out what comes next. I salute the author for creating a wonderfully compelling story. My advice to you is to fire your editor. He/she did not do their job ensuring your writing lived up to your vision.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Unfortunately, the narrator let the story down as well. He places emphasis often in the wrong parts of a sentence or passage. His vocal range is too limited to do strong female voices effectively.

Awesome recording!

I have listened to a lot of audiobooks and this one is really well done. Not only does the story draw you in but the narrator does an amazing job of capturing you as well. He has a different voice of every character. I found it very entertaining when he read the girls lines. Overall it was a great book to listen too. I will definitely be listening to it again.

BEST AUDIO BOOK 2015

The Legend of the Fire Walker is one of the best audio books that I have ever heard.

My favorite is all the different characters in this story, Roy, Ladonda, Amanda

Malik, Nathan Lafonda and super powers.

Great story

I like this book because it was easy to follow and the characters were interesting. I can't wait to the next book. I listen to this book in one day.

Captivating read!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Legend of the Firewalker, Book 1 to be better than the print version?

I enjoyed the print version a lot, because I like to read the story and envision the characters...plus, I like to highlight my favorite scenes in the book. Typically, I stray away from audio-books; however, I very much enjoyed the book that I wanted to listen to it further after hearing amazon's free version. I must admit, I LOVE IT! The narrator did a very good job in bringing out the personalities of each and every character to live. He took envisioning the story, interactions and plot to a whole another level. I was captivated by the story, but to hear it very vividly made my reading experience that much better. With that said, I did find the audio-book edition very enticing.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favorite character will have to be Nathan, of course! The thing that I appreciate about Nathan is that he is a character that one comes to relate to and love. He reminds me of myself a lot, which is why I am enveloped by his growth and development in the book.

Dull story. Annoying reader.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Different reader. This one reads every character as a nasal geek. Better characters. Stah-High is a burnt out hesher, like Jeff Spiccoli. Maybe that was funny when this was written in 1987, but the character is just useless and annoying. Cobb is a burnt out former scientist who comes off as only slightly less useless and ineffective. None of the characters in this book are sympathetic. They're just annoying and weak.

Has Software turned you off from other books in this genre?

No. Plenty of other good sci fi. But this author? Never again.

How could the performance have been better?

Don't read every character with the same inflection, pace, and tone. Don't read it like a driver's ed teacher reading stereo instructions. He sounds bored, so I'm bored. I don't know if Sorensen is trying to sound like a tired nerd stereotype with adenoids, but that's the vibe I get.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment. The premise was compelling, but everything after that was a total letdown.

Rudy Rucker was born in 1946, making him about 21 in the Summer of Love. This explains the way he populated his story with old hippies and a useless young burnout with no drive or ambition.

Cobb and the "feezers" just lie around in a bath of technology, drinking and drugging. Stay-High is a spoiled party boy, only out for his next high. Why should I care whether any of them live or die? I guess we know how Rudy Rucker spent his youth. I don't care what happens to any of the characters in this book, except maybe some of the robots.

I'll be returning this one.

45 min in and 4 different perspectives not for me.

I am not a fan of books with so many different points of view. The book also had an outdated feel to it that i can't really explain other then to say it's there.

Interesting Series

I like a series where every story is only loosely connected to the other stories.

The different perspectives are more enlightening than the same repetitive dialog store after story.

Love this story

I really like this story AS a book -- well written, well paced, and evenly spread between character headspaces for maximum effect of storytelling.

The narrator did a phenomenal job: I could tell you who each character was simply when Doersch began speaking their dialogue. Appropriate accents, ways of speaking, everything.

Least favorite? The fact that he apparently didn't narrate the REST of the series!!

Better to Beg Forgiveness

Only downloaded first chapter, played around and finally got rest of book that was yesterday. Today when I read a chapter in the ebook version and tried to sync with audio book it would not sync. Looked at audio book and only had first chapter again. It started over but already read and listen to that chapter. Tried to get rest of book, gave up after 15 minutes. Waste of money I read for fun not aggravation.

This series is a must read, great universe and brilliant flow.

book dmuch better toward end

the first half of the booked had too much sex and basic day to day for my tastes. Way too involved in detailing their daily lives and sexual activities. felt like science fiction for bored hoisewives. howevee, the later parts of the books were very good, mode war and combat oriented, although sex repeatedly rears it's head throughout. Not badly, just too much for my tastes. All in all, very good read, well written. just depends on what you are looking for.

wow ! great story and homage to Heinlein

This was overtly political, which usually turns me off. However, I found the open and intelligent portrayal to be so persuasive on both an economical and a moral basis, that my own viewpoint must forever be altered. I felt as though the essence of Heinlien was animating the story. The book has brought forth much thought as it challenged me to remember myself. Very pursuasive with strong emtional triggers!

A little preachy for the libertarian cause

decent characters and plot. could have used some trimming. Her Libertarian perfect paradise was too perfect and I found myself unable to suspend belief, I kept thinking "that would never work".

Heinlein with a hammer

This book was entertaining, especially the battle and fight scenes. The performance was well done. Now, the complaints: I'm not a prude, but the continual, over the top sex scenes were an annoyance...I get it, this place is more libertine than earth, but I kept wondering if I'd accidentally downloaded a bodice ripper romance novel. Also, while I agree with the political philosophy of this book, even I found it a little heavy handed, at times. Heinlein did it better and with more subtlety in Starship Troopers.

It reminded a lot of Pallas, similar idea with character suddenly freed from a repressive society that says they are free but is actually very fascist and severely limits rights causing it to be very uncivilized in actuality; the main character is very shocked but eventually sees how civilized and better freedom actually is.

Excitement by the fistful.

I listened to Broken Angels barely daring to breathe for fear I would miss one of the twists and turns of this full-on space drama. Richard Morgan is a superb storyteller and uses all his skills to relate another Takeshi Kovacs tale. If you liked Altered Carbon, you will love this. The fan contract is fully satisfied.

Another Great Read

I really enjoyed the first novel, and while the second has a very different fell its every bit as good. Solid story, a few throw backs to the first novel, but no enough that you need to have read the first to enjoy it. The universe that Morgan has created here is really interesting and I hope to see a few more books in this series

As good if not better than Altered Carbon

Hats off to Richard Morgan on Takeshi Kovacs second outing! A great mixture of politics, philosophy and psychology with a sprinkle of sex and violence. Absolutely brilliant!

A Worthwhile Sequel ...

... and there are SO many out there that absolutely are NOT. This builds nicely on the tech possibilities established in Altered Carbon, but this plot is less tightly woven and more populated and that gate - that's always at the core and keeps pulling you back in, but in a good way. Can't say I preferred this, but it's flashier.

Fantastic, Dark Kagawa

This is Julie Kagawa at her darkest and I loved every minute of it. Whereas the Iron Fey series was romantic and adventurous, the Blood of Eden series was dark and sinister. The romance was there, too, but this final book in the trilogy, especially, was gory and bellicose and it might be my new favourite Julie Kagawa book.

Therese Plummer was fantastic, once again. She ranks as one of the best audiobook narrators out there, in my opinion. Julie Kagawa fans have been lucky because her audiobooks have the best narrators.

Like The Iron Traitor, it took A LONG time for the audiobook version of The Forever Song to be released (9 months after the hardcover was released). I hope this isn't going to be a recurring thing with Julie Kagawa books. Because it had been so long since I last listened to the previous book (The Eternity Cure), I should have re-familiarized myself with the story. I found myself rewinding a lot in the beginning to try to figure out what was going on and where the characters had left off in the last story, so word to the wise--go back to the first two audiobooks and refresh your memory on the Blood of Eden world before resuming with book 3.

One final thing: I started this series with my pre-teen daughter but I think I'm going to put off listening to this one with her. It's a lot gorier (there are a couple of graphic passages about tortured or disembowelled bodies) and, for whatever reason, the author decided to really ramp up the F-bombs in this book. As an adult and fan of Julie Kagawa, it didn't faze me at all, but as a mother, I had to question the gratuitous swearing. It didn't add anything to the story and could have been left out without losing any of the emotion. That's a minor nitpick, however.

I hated seeing this trilogy come to an end. these books r so well written and T. Plummer is the perfect person to do the reading for this. I highly recommend

I can't get enough of Julie Kagawa's Books!! SHE'S IS A VERY TALENTED AUTHOR!! I love every type of Book I've read of Hers!! Vampire's, Dragon's, Young Adult.... THEY ARE ALL TRULY EPIC!!!

Hooked

Would you listen to Legacy again? Why?

I loved this book - there's enough intrigue and action to satisfy my tastes. I've become a devoted advocate of the Event Group series of books. My only problem is that some of the descriptions don't tell you what book in the series they are, in which case, I've just had to guess and plug ahead. Legacy sets up the foundation for any number of follow-on books to carry on the tale begun here, but so far, I haven't stumbled on a sequel. Hopefully there will be one forthcoming. I just finished the Carpathian book, which also leaves the foundation for follow up books, but who knows what such a follow up will be called, or when it will be released. These, to me, are the only shortcomings in the series, but they won't stop me from reading every Event Group book that David writes. I love the characters, the narrator, and the story lines.

What did you like best about this story?

An excellent combination of familiar characters, a space anomaly, and action!

Which character as performed by Richard Poe was your favorite?

As always, you just gotta love Colonel Jack Collins and Sarah Mackintyre (however they're spelled).

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

There's something out there, and it's coming this way . . .

I wish they'd make movies of this entire series! The characters and story lines are all gripping and exciting - what more could one ask in a movie?

Great book but out of order

Why did this come out after Overlord?? Otherwise another great Event group novel. Richard Poe is great as ever. The story keeps you going even though if you have overlord you know the ending kinda.

Wonderful narration, as ever

Ignoring the "hokey cokey" science, a good adventure!

Amusingly, the App tells me I need to submit at least 15 words .. Which I guess I've done now!

The Event Group saga will never be the best literary find in the world ... It is, however, great fun!

Brilliant as always

Listening to Legacy (as opposed to previously having read it), I found the story to be even more engrossing and emotional (especially at the end). I found myself using a few tissues to mop up the tears.

So what's happening here?

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I'm 17 chapters in and have no idea what's happening. I just spent some time on Wikipedia and that helped a lot. If you haven't read Destination:Void (which is the REAL book one here) you might want to start there or at least read the Wiki. Herbert makes lots of assumptions that you're going to know what an eclone is, what Pandora is and who Flattery is right off the bat. Lots of poetry and riddles don't help. I think if you read the book twice you'll get a lot more out of it the second time.

Probably not. Not interesting enough so far. Ship, a jealous scientist, a psychiatrist trying to do something that we dont know anything about (yet), a lady that was never introduced. Nah.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Oboy, does it need different narration. The ladies seem like idiots. I listened to the whole thing, but if I had known I could return an audible book, I'd have grabbed a different one as soon as the first woman was voiced.

Has The Jesus Incident turned you off from other books in this genre?

I like Frank Herbert even when the concepts are retreads of better books. I might buy a Bill Ransom just to see how they dovetail. Not the most inspired ending. Seeing how the ideas work through was marginally interesting, if you've any of Herbert's other stuff. Would rather have been able to skim a physical copy. There would have been a LOT of skimming.

All of Herbert's writings are deep, full of overly thought out worlds. They include political and religious systems, often very foreign to the known. They are so different, it is difficult for the average person to wrap their head around them. Herbert's books are often long, as the explaining of these worlds is a long torturous path. When I was in my early twenties I picked up Dune, two or three times, but could not figure it out. Than the movie came out and now it is one of my favorites. Dune is a complex rich story, complete in all aspects. This book might be the same, but until I see the movie, I will probably not get my tiny brain around it.

Brick has changed and is now one of the better narrators. It is not BS, SB is good.

This book is so sci-fi.

I really love this book. It's elegant literature. It has great sweeping scene changes and different slices of perspectives.

rambling, boring, wanted to like but couldn't.

299 days started out as a good series lots of potential but as it drug on I found the books to become repetitive and mired in juvenile descriptions of what a person with little to know experience or exposure to real life American war fighters see on TV and the idea that it was all about a look or a type of dress or gear was very lacking and worked to pull one out of the story. the biggest issue was when the main character starts hearing voices from God but it's described as " the outside thought" it becomes laughable and sophomoric with a touch of insulting like the author didn't want to say the main character was hearing from God to avoid the negative connotations that go along with hearing voices but instead was content to say the outside thought which was clearly supposed to be gods input on matters and then to decide in the final book to go ahead and address it as God felt like an epic waste of time if it's god thendon't avoid it because it's a story. overall save your money.

Excellent Compliment to the Original Series

What did you love best about 299 Days: The 43 Colonels?

Volume nine is the best of Glen's books so far. It is a great continuation of the storyline and is an awesome listen and read for anyone interested.

What did you like best about this story?

Based on the series it is great to see the last part of the character arcs in the series. Glen does an excellent job of rounding out each character nicely.

Have you listened to any of Kevin Pierces other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to Pierce's other work and I have liked everything he has done

I do not respond very emotionally to most books so I cant say I laughed or cried but this book definitely twists you up inside.

The 43 Colonels! Brilliant.

This is the perfect end to the series as it pulls stories together from all over and from the people everywhere who helped through the collapse recorded in the book. A Role call of heroes. I got The 43 Colonels first as I'd read through all the others in the series.
