    I just...I can't do it...
Would you try another book from John Birmingham and/or Mark Zeisler?
Based on this and the first book in the series, no, I don't think so.
What was most disappointing about John Birminghams story?
The main character is disappointingly dense. We keep getting reminded about how he has multiple engineering degrees and is in charge of a team that performs dangerous and exacting work. What we actually get is a moron who rarely bothers to think, and when he does, it's typically not with his head. Time after time, we're shown that he is surrounded by competent if sometimes contrary individuals, and time after time he chooses his own inane answer instead of listening to sound advice. There's a major disconnect here, and it's infuriating.
    Any additional comments?
I really wanted to like this series. It's a cool concept, and has some fun possibilities. It's fun to see the monsters of old run headlong into the technology of today. The main character is entirely too obnoxious, though.
Great action and held my attention the entire book
What did you love best about Resistance?
I loved that I got another book to continue after the first Dave vs The Monsters
What did you like best about this story?
All of it, the characters, the story, the monsters, etc
What does Mark Zeisler bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
He provides added entertainment because he nails the characters
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
    no
    Any additional comments?
Buy it, totally worth every penny (or credit)
the story lacked direction with the main character
The main character lacked direction. The story was a cross of Hulk smash and I hate the government but will work for them. I don't appreciate whining from the main character.
Ve and I work in the oilfield so it was hilarious
great way to past the time ...
p s lot of cussing so don't let your children listen to it
    Annoying delivery
The good news is that if you enjoyed book one you get a 2nd book that cranks the throttle for you. The bad part is that apparently the narrator did everything on his first take; he takes breaths at weird moments destroying how the sentences flow and stumbles over words. I swear it sounds like he is reading this out loud for the first time,in the dark, with a dying flashlight.

    Great book
Well written. Very fresh story with deep character development.
Can't wait for the sequel. Would make for a great movie
    Fun and entertaining story.
a good techno - thriller that stays interesting throughout. the author writes some pretty quirky characters that bring the story to life.
Snow Crash + Mack Bolan + Captain Jack Sparrow =
Pretty decent writing, amazing story. I'm looking forward to the next entry in the series. Unlike most books, I think this would make an amazing movie series. With well written character interactions, lonely P.O.V. sequences and some explosive action I'll bet we get to see a movie in the next few years. The book seems to question modern America and society with morals firmly footed in yesterday- exploring the next possible evolution of mankind. While that may make many queasy, P.J. Manney did this while skirting religion but delving into spirituality. Questing for "right" in an elitist society, seeking revenge but from an enlightened perspective, and using technology that is less than a stones throw of advancement away from our own, (R)evolution is a crunchy quick read that will leave a lasting impression on your mind.
At times the performance comes off a little cheesy, but that in itself is an elitist perspective. I read half of the book while awaiting release of the audio version, so my mind performers were a little less... stereo-typical That aside, David De Vries has an easy tone and excellent rhythm. I will be looking for other recordings of his in the near future.
    entertaining, but a little lacking
the plot moves slowly and required the reader to overlook some pretty glaring issues like the illegal confiscation off personal property without due process. I did like the idea of the story and the authors use of real science wherever possible.
    Amazing Story.
Excellent first book in what promises to be an enlightening and enjoyable series.

Very good first days of the outbreak book!
This book is open-ended so of course there is a second one. Over all I enjoyed this book very much. I'm partial to outbreak zombie books rather than 50 years after books so this was up my alley. A canine sidekick is featured which I always enjoy, characters are a mix of retired military and every man, well fleshed out and interesting, and I am definitely in for book two. No huge new zombie ground broken here - attempts at which I am sick of as they rarely go well - but a solid entertaining story with solid writing and characters.
Great female character I hope to see more of as well!
Medium gore, mild swearing, no sexism, no animal abuse, no sex (thank you to the author), and no military jargon rants or long equipment descriptions that will annoy civilians.
Very solid first book in a series. Narrator was invisible.
I HAD TO TAKE HER HEAD OFF
    A DUCK IS A DUCK
I got this because it was on sale and I was told it was different. Demers, changes some of the minor rules involving Zombies, but they are so minor as to not warrant mentioning. The main character is kind of a loser who is set straight by the prepper he meets. He is not a super military expert and he does not travel across the state as in most of these stories, but nothing really happens, it is all the same. If you have read one Zombie book, you have read this one. You want different, get Cattle. It is not a bad book, it just is not unique.
I wish I had thought of that!
When I sat down and wrote my journal-based zombie book, I was just getting my feet wet. Admittedly, when I look back on it now, I can tell. There are some clumsy bits and awkward moments. I tended to introduce too many "background" characters and such.
THIS is the book that I wish I had written. It is a fun ride that has you shaking whatever version you have and hoping that more will fall out. (I used the audio book version, so that would be my phone getting throttled.)
    J. D. Demars brings a lot of the standard zombie fare to the table, but then he mixes in some special ingredients and turns the zombie into his own beast. Also, he has the best utilization of a canine companion that I have read in the genre. he makes this pooch into an integral character in the story that you will have real feelings for in a short time.
Besides the zombies, there is a bit of that evil monster known as "man" that pops in and proves that the zombie might not be the most feared creature out there. Also, Demars makes you hate Fish. The person...not the food. (Although I suppose it is okay to hate both.) The Fish protagonist is an excellent foil for Christian (who I wanted to slap and demand that he kill Fish in his sleep on several occasions.)
Overall, this is a wonderful introduction to an author I look forward to reading more from. Considering this book only covers a month in the time line of what we are told is a year, I would say we have a lot to look forward to. The audio book is 4.5 stars for me. Honestly, I held back the half a star just because there were a few glitches in the production quality of the audio book.

    Another piece of the puzzle
I was a little disappointed in this novella. The first was pretty good and I can easily see how it plays into the story. This novella is about Clyde, the Followers captain. Maybe he has a big part to play in the next book. Otherwise I'm not sure why there was a novella written about his experience.
explains the origin & the reason for Clyde Bealey
The Remaining: A Faith is a novella that explains the origin and the reason for Clyde Bealey in the remaining books of the series. In the beginning before the mysterious disease spread across the U.S. and most likely the world, Clyde was a white-collar worker and lived a full white-collar world a soft life according to his in-laws. His wife came from the more grounded life of blue-collar workers and hunters. Clyde knew he would never measure up to his wifes family.
Throw in a mad dash to a FEMA camp and Clyde packs his most valued items pictures, licenses, birth-certificates, CDs, money, etc. and no food or clothes. His wife is about to give birth anytime and Clyde struggles with the realization that his in-laws would not only laugh at him but that they would be better prepared for this emergency.
D.J. Molles is not gentle with his characters and shows how brutal they and life can be to them. Clyde must decide where to go, what to do and who he really is now that the world is gone. Clyde must find his way among the Followers now.
Short but action packed. I find that I actually enjoy these novellas that are strategically placed within the series as they offer an insight that one might miss if they were not separated. Molles flushes out what most of us would do during such an emergency and shatters our thoughts, almost teaching what a survivor should do in the case of any emergency. What we should focus on.
The narrator, Christian Rummel continues to be excellent. The way he reads slightly faster as the action comes to head makes my already pumping heart beat slightly faster anticipating the outcome.
    The production had no issues.

    Some Interesting background
A nice little story to give some background on the faithful. Not necessary to enjoy the series and doesnt add as much as the novella Trust but still interesting for those who love the The Remaining series.
Christian Rummel is a great narrator.

My undergrad degree is in non-fiction writing. This is not a novella. It is a character sketch.

    The story is unusual
For people familiar with Piers Anthony's writing style, this was the series that showed me that for Mr. Anthony, writing style is as much a function of the series as the cast of characters. I think it amazing that he could write this at the same time as Xanth books and others in different styles.
I did not care for the narrator's Winchell -like newsreader delivery. It distances the reader from the story, while I think a more immersive reading of the book would be better.
It didn't put me off the audiobook series, though. Great book!

Beginning of a New Series in the Foreigner World
I don't think I know how to review these books any more. This one is number 16 in the Foreigner series. I had started at the beginning about 25 years ago (Cherryh has been one of my favorite authors since I picked up her first novel, The Gates of Ivrel nearly 40 years ago). If I hadn't started at the beginning how confused would I be trying to put together the world of the Atevi and the world of diplomat/translator Bren Cameron? Or maybe I wouldn't have been confused, maybe I just enjoy the depth of the story because I did start at the beginning.
Anyway, this one is better than the last sequence which had the feel of being a bridge between major parts of the story. Cajieri's young human friends have gone back to the station and it seems that Bren is going to get some work done now that certain plot lines in flux seem to have settled down. However, an extraordinary event sends the story off in another direction.
Daniel Thomas May is still doing an excellent job of narrating the story. Some of the Atevi words are not quite what I imagined when reading the books, but I am reconciled. Great to have all of the books with a single very competent narrator.
Always a Joy. Great writing and narration
I love these novels. I can't resist telling this story, and it is a complement to the narrator. I was at a convention in Washington DC in April 2014. The event I went down for was over and I wanted something to do before going home. I found a Walking Dead cast member with nobody at his booth and we started talking about acting, unions, and Georgia. We hit it off really well. I could not remember his character, and we didn't talk about the show. I could not shake the weird feeling that I knew him, had met him somewhere before. He was very encouraging and we talked for about half an hour. It was Daniel Thomas May. I didnt figure it out until the next novel came out. So, we had never met before, but in a way, after all the novels, I'd met him, he just hadn't met me! As long as Cherryh wants to write them, and May wants to read them, I will buy them. Oh, this one is a bit of a cliff-hanger so bring on the next one.
    Always a good story!
As usual, CJ Cherry and Daniel Thomas May deliver a good story. Mr. May's performances of the many and varied character voices is consistently good. Thanks and kudos to both the author and the narrator.
Another Wonderful Book In The Series
What was one of the most memorable moments of Tracker?
There are several moments when crises are at a head and one wrong move of diplomacy could lead to disaster and bloodshed. Inter-species relations, linguistics, politics and intelligence (in the spy sense), are some of the aspects that make the Foreigner series of books such a remarkable achievement in the field of science fiction.
Which character as performed by Daniel Thomas May was your favorite?
Bren Cameron, is great as always as is the Dowager. The captains, other than Jace, are a bit overdone (i.e.

    The Sythians Invaded Again
Dark Space, the last refuge of humanity, is overrun; its citizens are either enslaved or dead. The relentless Sythians have slaughtered humanity wherever they could find them, and now only a few hundred survivors remain. Desperate to escape, these few chase rumors of a lost sector of humanity and end up on Avilon, a planet covered with a vast, kilometers-high city that lies hidden and shielded from the rest of the galaxy by its impossibly advanced technology and its benevolent ruler - Omnius, the artificial intelligence who would be god to his human creators.
    Humanity Found Refuge on Avilon
Omnius reveals that no one really died in the war - he couldn't save them from the Sythians, but he did find a way to record the contents of their brains and resurrect them all in the bodies of immortal clones. Omnius keeps a record of everyone's mind in order to make predictions about the future and prevent people from making mistakes. The result is a perfect paradise where you can be assured of a happy, successful life for the rest of eternity - just so long as you are willing to give up your freedom and submit to Omnius' will. If you refuse you can live in the Null Zone, a city that lies cloaked in shadows below the immortal paradise where Omnius reigns supreme. In the Null Zone humanity has its freedom, but the result is chaos, death, and forced separation from everyone living in the Upper Cities of Avilon.
Paradise for Some Is a Prison for Others
To Ethan Ortane, who spent years exiled on a prison world in Dark Space, Avilon and its utter lack of freedom is the Netherworld incarnate, and Omnius the Devlin himself. His son, Atton, is not so sure - it's hard to argue with Omnius' governance when death and suffering have become just a distant memory. Even better, it looks like Avilon, with all of its advanced technology, might finally be able to put an end to the Sythians.

    This book is amazing
I could not stop listening to this audio book. Good good narration and a Great story. I recommend this.
    Good book
for book Number 5 I thought this book was a little slow in getting started it finished up well but it is quite a long book and there's a lot of things that happened in here which I felt was a little slow for me but overall was a pretty good book.
    Things are falling into place
In this book, Destra and crew must flee Dark Space and find a place to live while the Sythians and Avilonians battle for control. Meanwhile, Ethan and crew must adjust to live in Avilon and live under the rule of Omnios.
For the most part, the action here is non-stop. It quickly becomes apparent that Avilon is no utopia and we spend much of the book trying to find out the motives and true nature of Avilon. By the end of the book we have a much clearer picture of who Omnios is, what is wrong with Avilon, where the Sythians came from, and what part the resistance plays. Meanwhile, Destra and the Gores end up on somewhat of a cliffhanger, with their fate to be determined in the next book.
Overall, I enjoyed the action and the novel. The author even comes up with a nice way to explain the constant convenient coincidences that happen through the series. I continue to dislike most of the characters...they continue to be quite dumb, which I suppose adds to the realism, though I typically enjoy a very strong protagonist.

    Last?
Not worth another credit. This could have been added to the 2nd to "last" book.
A book without a purpose? No plot, No closure
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
This book was a let-down. I've been a big fan of the series and while I agree with many other readers that the story needed some closure, there is just not much here at all.
According to the author this book was supposed to wrap up things and fill us in on more of the details, but it fails to do that. I just didn't get it; there seemed no real plot or story to this book, just a bunch of disconnected stuff that again left me feeling like the story isn't over.
This book was just too short; it felt rushed / slapped together from notes and left as many questions unanswered as the previous books did.
It felt more like an introduction to another following story (as this series was from the Jakarta Pandemic) than anything else.
Could you see Dispatches being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
No, there is no plot in this book.
    Any additional comments?
I won't be wasting any more audible credits on such short books!
A good addition to the series
Another great addition to the Perseid collapse series. It adds another part in the story of the fletchers which is great. If you liked the first three books this will be right up your alley, but if you havent read those books youll be a bit lost. What the author also tries to do as well is show the listener a bit of whats going on outside of Maine, but since he really doesnt spend a lot of time on it, its nice but I felt as if it left me wanting rather than being an integral part of the story. Either way overall I really enjoyed it!
Mr. Farrell does a very good job with the narration.
    Amazing!
    This entire series is fantastic.

    A Different Kind of Island!
What was one of the most memorable moments of Island of Fog, Book 1?
When the kids got to the top of the lighthouse and saw and felt the sun for the first time in their lives.
What about Fred Wolinskys performance did you like?
How he gives each character their own unique voice and traits. I particularly liked what he did with Miss Simone. Her voice was other-worldly, but believable.
    Any additional comments?
This story holds the interest of kids as well as adults. I am looking forward to book 2.
    absolutely enjoyable
Would you listen to Island of Fog, Book 1 again? Why?
Definitely! The narrator was clear and colorful with defining each character with a change in his voice! The story kept me wanting more!
What was one of the most memorable moments of Island of Fog, Book 1?
I enjoyed the ever developing friendship during the time of what must have been frightening when they learned who they were
Which character as performed by Fred Wolinsky was your favorite?
Of course I loved everyone but you couldn't help but feel what Hal was feeling!
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The whole story moved me. If I had to pick just one was the proud feeling of accomplishment by everyone's teamwork!
    Any additional comments?
I went on and purchased all 9 of the fog series and read each one. Now I feel lonely. I want more. I loved the adventures, happiness and sad, love and overall that these young people taught that with team work, anything is possible. I'm proud of the writer, narrator but feel like I'm family to the characters! A must read or audible definitely. I'm a grandmom and enjoyed it. My children 6 and 8 want to hear it again! Now we're learning to read the series. Thank you
Great fantasy adventure for tweens through adult

Book one of the Cobra Rebellion saga and a new entry in New York Times number-one best seller Timothy Zahn's legendary Cobra series.
Cobras: technologically enhanced warriors bred to fight an alien menace no ordinary human can withstand. At the center of the action on Cobra world Aventine: the legendary Moreau clan. In times of war, the Cobras are necessary, yet in times of peace they are often reviled by those they have saved. Now the Cobras have resisted a second invasion of the alien Troft forces and forced the Troft to a stalemate--and even converted some thoughtful Troft into uneasy allies against their kin.
Yet all is not well in the human sector of the galaxy. A supposed sister empire, the Dominion of Man, threatens the Cobra worlds with what is, in effect, enslavement, as it moves to consolidate power over all the Cobra worlds. The plan on Aventine: to extort from the Moreau family the location of the home planet of a mysterious human ally that may be more powerful than the Dominion: the Qasaman Empire.
Meanwhile Cobra Merrick Moreau is on a secret mission of his own to a world of humans enslaved by Troft masters. It is a world of barbaric cruelty, where human are slave chattel to Troft gamblers. There the Troft force whole villages, even children, into life-and-death struggles served up for Troft entertainment.
But the totalitarian Dominion of Man and the Troft game masters are in for a rude surprise: Cobras are not merely technological marvels. They are far more. For within each Cobra, bred by close family ties and hard testing in battle, there beats the heart of a warrior and the burning conviction that a Cobra will be slave to no one. Rebellion is at hand, and once again Cobras lead the fight for freedom.

    Intriguing, with surprises
Enjoyed the book, good escapist literature. It has been a long time since I read the original books and these sequels are good.
    Great as always
I love zahn as an author so I am biased. Well thought out, put together and a good read. After having read ten or so kindle scifi firsts, it was nice to be able to read a real science fiction novel again. Wish I knew of more authors like Zahn.
    Filler for the next volume
Four parallel Moreau story lines that connected a book or two books ago and will probably connect again, eventually. Not much is accomplished in any of the four story lines in this book. It seems mainly to set up the background for future events.
    No resolution
Usually utilities on books there's resolution to some issues within the storyline. That is not the case here. While it is a good read,
There are way too many unanswered questions, and if it takes another two years to produce the last book in the series, I may not read it.
Yet another good book by Timothy Zahn
Yet another good book by Timothy Zahn. The plot twists, the action, along with Zahn's writing style, combine to make a book that you won't want to stop reading. I am already looking forward to the next book in the series, I hope he finishes it quickly.
