    Enjoying LitRPG, but
Enjoyed the story and the narration immensely, particularly with no familiarity to tech RPGs
Character skills development and pacing in LitRPG is fun. It can be greatly accelerated or explained by 'level up' avoiding the some-months-later gaps in other stories.
That said, I think LitRPG is already in a rut regarding the link between real and virtual worlds. Every author has a major plot element involving a magic link and eventual merge of real and virtual worlds, and the level of interaction between the two is the only variable. A trope I'm not sure LitRPG can avoid.
I'd like to see other commenters list Authors in the genre
The BEST LitRPG I have ever listened to!!!
The Outlaw is the second book in the Phantom Server Trilogy. This book begins immediately following a cliff-hanger from book one. However the plot takes an immediate sharp turn in which Zander finds himself alone with no safe respawn point and no logout ability. The new Update introduces all new gamers ignorant of the danger to be found in 100% authenticity and who are wary of Zanders ever growing abilities and seeming mysterious knowledge even while they have to rely on him for survival.
The author does a great job of defining incredible obstacles as each hard won discovery brings more questions as Zander strives to survive in a game he cannot afford to loose! The action keeps building and building all throughout the book. This is an exciting and fun book!
    More Focused & Entertaining Sequel
What made the experience of listening to The Outlaw the most enjoyable?
The second book is more fleshed-out wrt main plot line and didn't focus too much on the crippling potholes in the previous book. With the focus of this book changing to character development and interactions with the virtual world becoming his reality, the new direction is refreshing and a great encapsulation of how it would feel to live in a MMOFPS. The ignoring of the previous plot is perfect by changing it to rather people staying in the game until death (virtual better than real life or less boring), is a better use of the technology rather than an evil corporation unable to develop AI so they kill people they are developing the game for to get the data they already had without having to kill them through neural scanning.
Have you listened to any of Todd McLarens other performances before? How does this one compare?
The narrator's performance had been excellent and handling of female characters had improved in this audio-book compared to his previous performance.
    it was alright.
if you're a huge gamer this book could be for you.

The singularity. The day the machines gained awareness. The day they turned cruel. The day they overthrew their makers.
In a distant star system, a planet-sized computer unleashes its hosts: fleets of warships, armies of robots, and a swarm of killer drones. Their purpose is one: destroy all life.
As the cosmos crumbles, one team steps up to the plate: the Alien Hunters.
The Alien Hunters are galactic pest controllers, not an army. Their spaceship is old and clunky. They specialize in crushing the odd space bug, not a fleet of vicious machines. They're a rolled-up newspaper when the cosmos needs an A-bomb.
But they're fast, they're brave, and they're just foolhardy enough to charge right into battle. As the robots spread across the galaxy, slaying all in their path, the Alien Hunters fly out to meet them. The war between life and machine begins.

ARENSON IS A PHENOMENAL STORY TELLER!!!
Alien Sky picks up right where it needed to after reading ALIEN HUNTER. There are so many plots within plots that anything he wrote would be okay. But Arenson kept the story roaring along with suspense, adventure, romance and comedy. You can't help but love the main characters. Please tell me that there are more than 3 books in the series. I have preordered #3 and hope it comes out sooner rather than later.
I recommend this book for young adult, adult and seniors alike. I would recommend reading the books in sequence so you understand the story better.
KUDOS Mr. Arenson on another tale exquisitely told....keep writing.

    Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 507 votes
    Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Sci-Fi: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
With such compelling and provocative novels as Red Planet Blues, FlashForward, and The WWW Trilogy, Robert J. Sawyer has proven himself to be "a writer of boundless confidence and bold scientific extrapolation" (The New York Times). Now, the Hugo and Nebula Award-winning author explores the thin line between good and evil that every human being is capable of crossing....
Experimental psychologist Jim Marchuk has developed a flawless technique for identifying the previously undetected psychopaths lurking everywhere in society. But while being cross-examined about his breakthrough in court, Jim is shocked to discover that he has lost his memories of six months of his life from 20 years previously - a dark time during which he himself committed heinous acts.
Jim is reunited with Kayla Huron, his forgotten girlfriend from his lost period and now a quantum physicist who has made a stunning discovery about the nature of human consciousness. As a rising tide of violence and hate sweeps across the globe, the psychologist and the physicist combine forces in a race against time to see if they can do the impossible - change human nature - before the entire world descends into darkness.
    Critic Reviews:
"Hugo and Nebula Award-winning author Sawyer's latest work is a fast-moving, mind-stretching exploration of the nature of personality and consciousness; it balances esoteric speculation with action and character." (Publishers Weekly)
    Members Reviews:
    Discombobulated, but interesting
The plot of Sawyer's latest near-future SF novel is not exactly built on a sturdy framework (to wit: if it were scaffolding, it would sway in high northerly winds) but there is enough science (quantum states of neuron tubules), characterization (dude loses his memory of doing something BAD) and warnings of overreach by an aggressive American government to give any Canadian pause.
The overall idea, that our consciousness is a result of electrons being entangled in these little pockets inside your neurons, really is fascinating, and the scientists (Hammeroff, Chalmers) are real, live, living human beings who've done some credible and amazing research in this area.
Sawyer uses these ideas to explain the various levels of psychopathy that we see in everyday people, from people who have none at all (you know, folks who don't kick dogs) to egomaniacal narcissists (who probably do kick dogs). Sawyer describes these different types of people well. And the novel isn't bad. It really isn't. It's just... all over the place. It's worth a read... or a listen... but if you're looking for a classic, hero's-journey story arc, this ain't it.
Side note to narrators everywhere (not just Scott Aiello): Do NOT try to mimic Southern accents. You will get it wrong. You got it wrong in this reading, and to be honest, none of you get it right. If you're from the South, you know what I mean. Just don't even try.
    Other than that, good book.
    Peace and hair grease.
    Philofun in a nutshell
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I actually caught myself considering which friends to recommend this book to. On the one hand, I considered those with an academic interest in neuroscience, psychology and society.

    A fantastic series!
The critical strike series is a fantastic series read by Luke Daniels who is on my top list of favorite narrators. I recommend this series!
    I want more!
    Any additional comments?
I thoroughly enjoyed listened to the 3 books in this series, the vision of foreign planets and species, etc... I sincerely hope that there will be more stories of Denver forthcoming.
    Questions???
The story raised questions I think this series would benefit from a prequel to better tell the background story. Also I wonder are they going to continue in a different series Denver's story? Too many questions but beyond that the third book in the series held my attention. I want to know where does Denver go? I want to know more about the other earths. As I said too many questions at the end of the story
I honestly have no idea why I keep listening.
The first book was promising for the first hour, and it's been completely downhill from there. Maybe I just want to know if Denver achieves manhood.

    Alien Ship "ELEVEN"
Brian Hutchinson's voice is pleasant and well modulated, making it easy to listen while driving. This is book 2 in a space-opera series, still under development, told in 3rd person POV. The characters are likable, returning from book 1. The plot revolves around political alliances, espionage, murder, alien technology, training the linesmen, etc.
It's best to read book 1 first, but this plot does stand alone fairly well.
Science-fiction elements include futuristic humans who've colonized on planets far from Earth, and sentient energy lines that control various components of a ship, including jumping into the void. The science is soft and glossed over. There is very little explanation of how these intelligent lines work, or why Ean (and other linesmen) can sing/speak to them. They are created from chemicals in a factory but are sentient, thinking and feeling?
The story is fairly interesting and heartwarming, with some humor and some dangerous, suspenseful scenes. I was expecting more action in the second book in the series, but there was enough going on to hold my interest.
This plot includes many of the secondary characters from book 1. Some of the better scenes include Fergus on line 7, Ean teaching new linesmen (including Mael and Tinatin, the one-line-wonders), Captain Keri Wang, Princess Michelle and Ean, Captain Helmo and Abram. We meet the new security commodore, Vega. Rigel, Ean's previous employer, plays a role, too, as does Jordan Rossi, level 10 linesman with a superego.
I think of the lines / ship as characters, too. I like the scenes where they speak or act with autonomy. However, as a character, I feel the lines/ships are amorphous, too nebulous.
No cliffhanger. The plot ends on a finished note. I'd be interested in a third book. Want to learn more about the creatures who first piloted the alien ships. And I want to know who/ what Ean is.
    very good second effort
good story and engaging narrator (reader). the only complaint is that you would miss a lot if you do not start with the first book on the series. but it is a uniqe concept with engaging characters.
    Loved it!
This is now one of my favorite series.

A clean sweep for the series
The final installation of the Ebola K series, Ebola K (Book 3) continues where books one and two left off. Find out what Austin will do to survive and what his dad will do to keep on living in this action packed conclusion.
Adam Verner narrates Book 3 and does a great job with it. He narrated the entire series and I was glad to see that Adair and Verner teamed up to do the final book. Verner has a really great voice for this type of fiction and really makes each second fly by.
Ebola K (Book 3) is the final book in this series and it felt like it. Not in a tired a worn down way, but Adair did a great job finishing up his story kind of way. I never know how much I am signing up for with some of these series, sometimes its 2 books and sometimes its many, many more. Thankfully, Ebola K had a nice 3 book cap on it and I dont think the series could have warranted any more books. The series was incredibly well thought out and the disease was perfectly described.
The book opens with some previously in Ebola K scenes which were a nice way to jump back into the story. A lot of people get to read these books in a row, but many others skip around because they werent finished or had other books in their to-read piles. Adair allowed the readers to jump back in without feeling lost.
The action was there and there was a lot of it. Adair didnt shy away from anything in this final installation. The whole series was a nice mixture of action and actual science. Not too much action to exhaust the readers and not too much science to lose people.
Overall, Ebola K (Book 3) felt like such a wonderful conclusion to everything that was going on in the other two books. Adair didnt finish with a bang or a whimper. He finished in a way that was incredibly believable and really put the nail in the coffin of this story.

They killed the series for me. It's dead.
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I really enjoyed the first four books in the series. This one was just plain bad though. I wanted lots of starship battles. What I got was something else. Too much girly b.s. It was like the view with some stuff blowing up in the background. Disappointed and then some.
What was most disappointing about Steve White and Charles E. Gannon s story?
They spent way too much time with the touchy feely stuff. I don't buy a book with a massive spaceship battle on the cover to spend half the time going over interpersonal, love interest character plots. They threw the military part out of what has, until now, been one of the best Military Sci-fi series I've ever read/listened to. They turned it into a romance novel.
Which character as performed by Marc Vietor was your favorite?
Marc Victor was a great narrator.
Did Extremis inspire you to do anything?
Yes, it inspired me to skip the next title in the series.
    Good story, sorta
I felt like the ending was week, like you had one idea, and final found a place to dump it in. Why write about the great heroes return, and not make him part of the solution.
    Don't
Every other chapter is a lesson on how bad religion is (all be it alien) and that humans have no souls. Ok we get it. But do we need a tretus for 41 chapters. And its BORING. The space battles are cool, but not enough of them. And way to many characters to keep track of. This book has to be endured not enjoyed.
Marc Vietor really bring the story to life
Marc Vietor really bring the story to life. the starfire series continues to deliver with another ripping galactic epic.
    now for the one
very solid story with a nice concept. if you liked the others you will like this

Enjoyed this series. A little upset that I cant get the next book as audible
    great romance
this is a great romance book. lots of gentleman chivalry. not a ton of action except towards the end of the books. only problem for me is the over use of the descriptive words.
    Great Story
writer S. L. Morgan is a great author. Natasha Soudek is a wonderful narrator. The story is very emotional and loving.
book 3 picked up the pace
enjoying the break from research. Feeling enchanted, loving the escape!
The story line can get a little long winded, but does pick up speed soon enough. narration is very good with the exception of Levi. He sounds angry and unattractive. I have to replay his words with my own version. This works just fine. Looking for the next book....

Travel to the future - it will cost you only everyone you love.
Attacked and injected with a drug that slows his metabolism to a fraction of normal, Martin James becomes an unwilling time traveler who hurtles through the years. His children grow up, his wife grows older, and his only hope is finding the people who injected him in the first place - not an easy task when one day for Martin lasts four years. And while Martin James strives to find a cure before everyone he loves is gone, others are uncertain if his journey can be stopped at all.
    W. Lawrence weaves a dystopian future filled with the best and worst of humanity, highlights the blessings and curses of technology, and pushes the limits of faith and hopelessness. Above all, Syncing Forward is a tale of one man's love for his family and their devotion to saving him from being lost forever.

Getting Up to Speed with A Forced Freeze on Time!
With Syncing Forward, W. Lawrence delivers the kind of story that sucks you in deep from the very beginning and holds you there until the very end (sort of like "freezing" you in time). Main character Martin James gives us a first person look at his experience. He introduces himself as an adult professional in a rather immediate future (2019, I think) , which only adds credibility to this very plausibleor at least believabletale. The yarn weaves through complicated work and family scenarios, both of which add layers of pure adrenaline, food for thought, a bit of action and, for me, a little wishful thinking (think Youth Freeze Sans Injections). The story does a terrific job of spelling out the toils and tough tradeoffs time-freeze presents for Martin, his family, his employer, and the Government. I particularly enjoyed the realistic reaction of Martins wife and the relationship between his daughters. Syncing Forward is as enriching (corporate internal investigation procedural; pharmaceutical supply chain; technology; prescription drugs; etc.), as it is entertaining.
Narrator Will Damron nailed this performance (I had to do a double take on his name!). His pitch, pace, and perfection in distinctly depicting Syncing Forward personalities are all winners. I will search for more of his work sure.
Definitely two thumbs up for this one!
The publisher's summary should've tipped me off...
What can I say? This book was extremely well-written, thought-provoking, and RELENTLESSLY depressing. I can hardly fault the author for weaving a tale that so effectively tugged at the heart strings, but had I realized the emotional weight of this book before purchasing, I would've passed on it. That being said, if you enjoy (or can get past) a heavy sprinkling of gloom in your reading, everything else about the book is fantastic! A terrifying and absolutely plausible glimpse into our near future.
    Literally Breathtaking
If you like great science fiction you need to listen to this book! The characters are so well developed and the story is enthralling and surprising at every turn, and the author even managed to make it touching. The performance is excellent as well.
Time you synced your credits on this one!
What did you love best about Syncing Forward?
The entire concept, the paradoxes that existed, the situation the principle character found himself in, are all original and thoughtful.
What did you like best about this story?
The progress of the characters as time moves forward.

    Meh
I personally don't understand the hype behind this one. It has its moments, but it's rife with inappropriately timed jokes and too many Douglas Adams references, the main character's motivations don't make much sense, the supporting cast is forgettable at best, and the overall story is kind of, to put it bluntly, ridiculous.
And don't even get me started on Doris...
Kate Russell's performance is well done, however, I have to give her that.
    An entertainingly told tale.
The book was alright, the story drags on in detail of several things it REALLY didn't need to, I can think of three instances of this. However, the rest played out alright.
To Audible: There seems to be a hiccup in the file, I believe around what Audible App claims is Chapter 19 the book replays the last four or five chapters on accident.
    Decent story. Hard to finish.
I liked the performance and the overall story. Though I found the main character hard to empathize with which is why it was hard to finish for me.
I enjoyed the sounds and and found that their integration into the narrative really helped the story seem lived in.
    Highly entertaining space pulp fiction
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This story is a classic adventure story in the vein of pulp adventure fiction with heavy shades of noir, all set against the space opera backdrop of Frontier's Elite setting. If you're looking for critical gold, this isn't your story. If you're looking for something that would make a pretty good movie and tells like an engaging adventure, this hits the mark perfectly.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Dread Catherine, although I have a lot of affection for Angel Rose. Catherine's pragmatism and the fact that she has a tragic backstory that she doesn't spend a whole lot of time in self-exposition (it is shown rather than told) makes her a comfortably familiar trope well applied, inserted into the story effectively without clubbing the audience over the head with who she is.
What about Kate Russells performance did you like?
She does a pretty good job at voice-acting even if she is not known as a voice actress. I'm also a sucker for her voice. That is perhaps a matter of personal taste, but it works for me.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes. It took me two sittings, but it's over 8 hours in the reading so that's a long time to sit.
    Any additional comments?
Chapters 19 and 20 are repeated in "21" and "22", which is a fault of editing.
