    Publisher's Summary:
Through the eyes of a killer...
Rachel de Luca has found incredible success writing self-help books. But her own blindness and the fact that her troubled brother has gone missing have convinced her that positive thinking is nothing but bull. Her cynicism wavers when a cornea transplant restores her sight. The new eyes seem to give her new life, until they prove too good to be true and she starts seeing terrifying visions of brutal murders-crimes she soon learns are all too real.
Detective Mason Brown's own brother recently died, leaving behind a horrific secret. In atonement, Mason donated his brother's organs, though he's kept the fact quiet. Now he wants to help Rachel find her brother, but when he discovers the shocking connection between her visions and his own brother, he suddenly has to do everything in his power to save her from a predator who is somehow still hunting from beyond the grave.
    Members Reviews:
    Original, well written
I do not typically like serial killer plots, but this book has an interesting premise. A blind self-help writer regains her eyesight with a cornea transplant. She is not believed when she claims that the transplanted tissue carries the essence of its donor, giving her visions and nightmares that she believes are true memories of her donor. Her life becomes messily tangled with a detective who is horrified to discover what became of 13 missing men and is suspicious of the writer who knows too much.
Typically, I would have had problems with the scientific implausibility of such as premise, but I quickly got over that hurdle. The plot introduces a few good twists early on. The protagonist's sarcastic comments and the hypocrisy of her life attitude and her self-help books provide a depth that is clever and entertaining. I couldn't help but like her.
I was expecting a romance, but this book is light on romance. The author's skilled writing kept me engaged so I did not miss that aspect.
It took me an hour or two to get comfortable with the performer's style. She does a good job, but has a different way of speaking that was initially distracting for me.
Overall, it's worth the credit and your time.
    Thoroughly Unlikeable Main Character
Has Sleep with the Lights On turned you off from other books in this genre?
No...but it isn't a Romantic Suspense per se...just has elements. More straight suspense.
    Any additional comments?
This book had a good plot - however the first distraction for me was the constant 1st and 3rd person narratives jumping back and forth. I dislike 1st person as I prefer more than one character perspective in a book. While this one had 3rd person narrative - it was annoying jumping back and forth and drew me out of the story every time. My biggest gripe was the main character. I found her mean and fake. I tried to like her - but how do you respect someone who admits they have made a fortune writing "crap" that she doesn't even believe herself. No apologies - just sheer arrogance. She spent her career covering that not only is she not the "Queen of Nice" but basically, she is a b***h. Evidently this is a trait her friends and family find endearing for reasons that escape my understanding. I found her to be a narcissistic jerk. Not to mention...too stupid to live - which in my opinion is the greater of the personalty faults.

Fiercely independent Carly is the number one suspect. When Carly asks Willa for due justice, Willa has everything to lose. But she risks it all to uncover the conspiracy and keep Carly alive. Can Willa possibly win?
    Members Reviews:
    No Justice
While some of dialogue was amusing, the basic plot of Due Justice did not work for me. When federal judge Willa (mid 40s) was told by a family friend that she has information about a murder, she doesn't immediately inform the police.
Instead of a legal drama, this book was basically an amateur detective story starring a really smart lawyer who just wanted to play Columbo. Willa didn't appear to have any respect for our justice system, which seemed strange for a sitting judge.
Since I couldn't relate to the main character, I had a difficult time concentrating. When the murderer was finally revealed, I was unimpressed and relieved that it was over.
    Good book BUT
While I enjoyed the book & performance the day, date, time to the second as well as the location, at the start of each chapter, drove me nuts and made me doubt if I would listen to another book by this author

Then one night Sandrine is found dead in their bed from a deadly overdose of pain medication and alcohol, and Samuel is accused of poisoning her.

    Publisher: Random House Audio
Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 35 votes
Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Modern Detective
    Publisher's Summary:
In Arne Dahls riveting follow-up to Misterioso, the Intercrime team is assigned the task of tracking down an American serial killer on the loose in Sweden - quietly, and as quickly as possible.
When a Swedish literary critic is found tortured to death in a janitors closet at Newark International Airport, the police realize that the murderer made off with the victims ticket and boarded a flight to Stockholm. Swedish authorities are placed on high alert, but the killer manages to slip through the customs dragnet and vanishes into the night.
With no clear motive in sight, Detectives Paul Hjelm and Kerstin Holm of Intercrimes A-Unit take over the investigation. They learn that the method of torture used was not only a highly specialized means of extracting information secretly developed during the Vietnam War - allowing the victim to whisper, but not to scream - but also that it was the modus operandi of an allegedly deceased homicidal maniac known only as the Kentucky Killer.
As additional victims are discovered on the outskirts of Stockholm and the terror grows, the team finds itself coming up empty-handed. Hjelm and Holm fly to New York, hoping to discover both the killers identity and the source of his interest in Sweden. What they quickly learn, searching through the past, is that bad blood always comes back around.

    More of the same
I've listened to a lots from the Scandinavian mystery genre and have enjoyed it. I suspect that the completion of the Jens Lapidus trilogy may be the apogee for my appreciation. One reviewer wrote that all other Scandinavian mysteries (e.g. procedural, suspense, modern detective, sad-sack but winsome drunk) are preparation for Lapidus who takes the familiar tropes to the limit.
It's possible that plots turning on transatlantic flights are worn out before they are written. Regardless, Bad Blood seemed like 'more of the same.'
In spite of weak material John Lee is always an excellent, soothing, and confident narrator.
    Good.
Slow start but good in the end. Narration excellent. Plot maybe a bit far fetched but then again most Scandi thrillers are!
    Not worth the listen.
Very disappointing, Had a hard time with the narration, and the story was disappointing. An incredible let-down

    Lucky Bastard
I'm so disappointed with this installment. The main character whined throughout the entire story. She was supposed to be a strong, independent woman. Now the author portrays her as an emerging, horny alcoholic. I don't know if I want to continue this series. I'm just disgusted with the turn of events.

Oh my this was a scary one... but it kept me reading.
    Sadie in trouble again...
I'm enjoying this series, and I really liked this book. I read it during the Halloween season, so I really got into it. I like the way Josi Kilpack writes. The stories are fun, the dialogue is realistic and flows easily, and there is a lot to like about Sadie... her flaws as well as her talents. I hope to be able to write this well someday!
    love, love, love it!
Although Sadie has just started her PI business and the jobs are coming in, she's in Boston with her boyfriend Pete (that is Boyfriend with a capital 'B") to watch his grandsons while their parents are away. What better time to visit Massachusetts than at Halloween? Sadie bakes up some pumpkin rolls and signs up for the 'witches tour'. Little does she know that the witches and ghost are comin' knockin' at her door.
What makes a great mystery/cozy? One where the ending surprises you yet when you look back, all the clues are there. Carve your pumpkin, light some candles and sit back while Josi Kilpack serves up a fun halloween treat!
Other of her books are great so I will not be disappointed it this one

Grippingly original . . . It enthralls at every stage of its unpredictability (The Times)
The book moves from read-as-fast-as-you-can horror to an intricately plotted race to a dark truth (Guardian)

    Members Reviews:
    Brutal and addictive
If you can stomach the violence, this is a wonderful twist on the crime genre. French noir, thumbs up from Norway.
    Trying too hard to shock
If this book wasnt for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?
    Early teenage horror fans.
Would you ever listen to anything by Pierre Lemaitre and Frank Wynne again?
    No
Which character as performed by David Rintoul was your favourite?
All were caricatures. David Rintoul is a good actor and narrator, if maybe a little over effusive at times, but even he couldn't do anything with the joke characters in this book.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
    Head shaking disappointment.
    Any additional comments?
After reading other reviews I was a bit wary of this book, but I decided to risk it if for no other than the title was my own name.Child abuse seems to be the current vogue in crime books. Despicable enough in itself, but the author seemed to throw in every 'yeuch' element he could to move the book closer to horror than crime fiction. The more he tried to shock the more pathetic the book became and the more apathetic I became to the plot and characters. Do police forces not have a minimum height requirement any more? A 4' 11'' cop with a famous artist mother? Really? An extreme fatso cop in designer duds that women find attractive for some reason (never explained)? A cop with so much money that four future generations will be able to live comfortably on his wealth, but is working as a cop? The quirks just kept on coming, and THEN we had the crimes. People tortured and killed in ways that would make The Abominable Dr. Phibes seem like a benevolent uncle? Trash.
    Absolutely gripping
Would you listen to Alex again? Why?
Yes without a doubt. The plot was beautifully crafted and the characters were very complete. Also the storyline was gripping from beginning to end.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I didn't have a favourite character. They were all crucial to the plot.
What does David Rintoul bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you had only read the book?
    He is a brilliant narrator.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I was pulling my fingernails out at the beginning.
    Any additional comments?
If you like thrillers you MUST read this.

My favorite cousin is a nice young boy in the KKK!
What disappointed you about Down Home Murder?
It was a listing of terribly unhealthy fast food consumed by a very large family. The narrator felt so very sympathetic towards her cousin, a new member of the KKK.
What was most disappointing about Toni L. P. Kelners story?
I will never fall for a "deal of the day" again without doing much more investigation. This "mystery" was a disaster for me. None of the characters had any character except a love for fast food. The narrator cum "detective" is mainly memorable because she loved sausage biscuits. Having moved to Boston, she evidently could find nary a sausage nor a biscuit. Is this book an advertisement for Hardee's and McDonald's?
What didnt you like about Gayle Hendrixs performance?
Too much Southern, too much lightness--I really did not like her drawls and wondered seriously if the speed on my iPod was off. It was not.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
I was angry and disappointed. I did not like the trite treatment of race; I did not like the huge cast of greedy characters who cared more about the menu than the death among them.
    Any additional comments?
I won't be fooled again. This is most certainly the worst "read" I have had on audible.com.
    ATROCIOUS!!
I suffered through three chapters of this story before I decided I could not take it anymore. At first, I thought it was the narrator who had the worst accent ever. Clearly, she had never been to NC. I am from NC and have never heard an accent like hers (not even sure where I would hear one like hers). But after suffering through another couple of chapters, I realized that I hated the story as well. It was far too negative and offensive for me. Never seen people so very back woods!!! Atrocious!
    Surprisingly offensive
White authors writing about race in southern America often makes me uncomfortable, but I haven't been as uncomfortable as I was while listening to this book in a long time. The main character is, of course, a liberal ex-native of the Southern locality in question, and comments on her family's inappropriate generalizations frequently.
However, there is a certain sense that "this is just the way people talk" that leaves me cold. Coming to this book from Laura Lipman's Baltimore mysteries only made this distinction more clear. Lippman always manages to tread that line without verging into offensive territory. Kelner is either not as fine an author or not as cognizant of the issues with her topic matter. I couldn't get past the first few chapters.
    Folksy overkill
My fault. Consider the title. If I weren't ready for home-fried folk cliches, I shouldn't have clicked on purchase. On the other hand, this would have been a much better book had an editor (remember editors, a nearly extinct species?) red-penciled through the worst cliches. Rode hard and put up wet. Dry as a bone. Sweet as honey.
There's a core of a pretty good mystery here, which is why I gave it a 3.

Thankfully, though, her publisher has taken notice and has a lot more faith: Mollys been promoted, and her first assignment as a full-time feature writer should be a cinch. Its a profile of Russell Elliott, the legendary rock manager/producer who just died of an accidental overdose. The rock n' roll world is pretty accustomed to seeing its brightest stars burn out early, and jaded as it sounds, no one is shocked by Elliots death - no one except his daughter, that is, who is convinced that it was no accident.
All Molly has to do to keep her new job, pump up newsstand sales, and win back reluctant beau, NYPD homicide detective Kyle Edwards, is give Elliot a once-over like a devoted fan, without looking too deeply at anything that smacks of murder, like his infamous family, his infighting protégés, or the rumor about his long-lost bootleg tapes. What could be easier for Zeitgeist magazines newest star? Almost anything.
Smart, sexy, and suspenseful, Killer Riff takes readers on a thrilling tour of New Yorks high-stakes music industry and makes for a stylishly entertaining addition to Sheryl J. Andersons jazzy Molly Forrester series.

    Too Much Strife
For a series that started out with such great humor, it really took a 180 turn. Like the last two books, this one has all the characters constantly at each other's throats. Throw in far too much evil "family" machinations and you may get what I got--a headache.

She is euphoric with her latest assignment; a Features' article on recently deceased Rock and Roll giant producer Russell Elliott, whose death was officially due to an accidental overdose.
Molly interviews Elliott's surviving extended family members as Elliot had several wives, which has left his will tied up in probate wars. As she digs deeper, Molly begins to believe that Elliot was a murder victim, but anyone cut out of his latest will apparently have an avaricious motive. This means most likely one of the ex's or part of their retinue rejected Elliot's final riff.
KILLER RIFF is an enjoyable lighthearted romp starring a likable heroine whose sidebars are sub-genre requirements expected of a chic lit heroine starring in an amateur sleuth whodunit. The story line is fast-paced and somewhat inane both due to the antics and barbs of the unsinkable Molly. Her struggles to complete her article and deal with her relationship with NYPD homicide detective Kyle Edwards is fun to follow. Fans who enjoy a funny but frivolous frolic will appreciate the Killer Molly series (see KILLER DEAL, KILLER HEELS, and KILLER COCKTAIL).

    Great Fun to Read
I had a lot of fun reading killer Riff by Sheryl Anderson. She is an entertaining author. I have read all the Molly Forrester novels and I can't wait for the next one to come out. One thing that I find particularly enjoyable is the friendship between Molly and her two best friends.
