    Narrator: Erin Spencer
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 15 hrs and 19 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 06-27-17
    Publisher: Random House Audio
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 15 votes
Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Fantasy: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
In the lush and magical tradition of Naomi Novik's award-winning Uprooted comes this riveting debut from brilliant young writer Callie Bates - whose boundless imagination places her among the finest authors of fantasy fiction, including Sarah J. Maas and Sabaa Tahir.
Lady Elanna is fiercely devoted to the king who raised her like a daughter. But when he dies under mysterious circumstances, Elanna is accused of his murder - and must flee for her life.
Returning to the homeland of magical legends she has forsaken, Elanna is forced to reckon with her despised, estranged father, branded a traitor long ago. Feeling a strange, deep connection to the natural world, she also must face the truth about the forces she has always denied or disdained as superstition - powers that suddenly stir within her.
But an all-too-human threat is drawing near, determined to exact vengeance. Now Elanna has no choice but to lead a rebellion against the kingdom to which she once gave her allegiance. Trapped between divided loyalties, she must summon the courage to confront a destiny that could tear her apart.
    Critic Reviews:
"Callie Bates has written an exciting and involving first book, and she is clearly a writer of real talent." (Terry Brooks)
"A simmering tale of magic that builds to a raging inferno, and hits like a cross between Brandon Sanderson and Pierce Brown." (Scott Sigler)
"This superior novel blends passionate romance and sweeping magic.... Bates has a delicate, precise touch with human and superhuman relationships." (Publishers Weekly)

    Wonderful fantasy adventure
Lady Elanna is a political hostage of the king. Her father has been accused, rightfully, of plotting treason years ago, and so Elanna grew up under tense conditions among hostile members of the king's court. Her only solace is the king loves her like a daughter. Then the king is murdered, and Elanna is blamed, and she must flee for her life. She flees right into the arms of her father's men, who want to take her home, to join their traitorous cause. She resists. She has unresolved issues, but she can't run away from her fate.
And so the adventure goes. Elanna faces danger and treachery all the time, and sometimes she is rescued, and sometimes she is the rescuer. She meets a prince, and a hero, and her father, and an evil butcher, and many other vivid characters. She discovers her magic, and tests it, and she is tested as well. She is forced to re-examine her loyalties, and learn the difference between being a traitor and a freedom fighter.
This is a very satisfying book, if you like fantasy adventure stories with a female protagonist.
    Underdeveloped
My Review: Upon reading the synopsis this book sounded vaguely familiar but different enough that I wanted to give it a try. I have to say even with the interesting synopsis and beautifully detailed cover, the story itself fell rather short. I almost DNFed this book multiple times. The pacing is very slow, and not because it is building up to something either. We spend nearly 3/4 of the book following Elanna around as she waffles about who she wants to support, who she wants to be, what she believes or wants to do, all without knowing what exactly is going on. So basically she is in the dark, and so are we as the readers.

    Publisher's Summary:
The third exciting novel starring the unforgettable antiquities thief Owl - a modern-day "Indiana Jane" who reluctantly navigates the hidden supernatural world. From the pen of rising urban fantasy star Kristi Charish (Owl and the Japanese Circus), and for fans of Kim Harrison, Jim Butcher, Jennifer Estep, and Jenn Bennett and fantasy lovers everywhere.
The International Archaeology Association (IAA) is responsible for keeping all things supernatural under wraps. They're also responsible for ruining the promising archaeology career of Alix Hiboux, better known as Owl.
Needless to say, Owl's still a little sore about that.
Just to keep Owl's life lively, the IAA has opened a bounty on the two designers of World Quest, the online RPG that is much, much more than it seems. Owl needs to locate the notorious gaming duo before the other mercenaries do. But finding the gamers won't be easy since every clue points to them hiding out in the legendary lost city of Shangri-La. Not to mention that the last time Owl and the game designers spoke, their conversation didn't exactly end on the best note....
Meanwhile, undercurrents of supernatural politics are running amok in Tokyo, dragging Owl and her friends into a deadly game of wits with an opponent who calls himself the Electric Samurai. The cost of losing? All-out civil war between two powerful supernatural factions.
All in all, just another great day on the job.

Who do I love more? Kristi or Christy?!
This series is so underrated in my opinion. It is such a fun and captivating Urban Fantasy!
It's not high on romance, bedroom scenes mostly take place behind bedroom doors, but it is filled with great world building, interesting politics and so much adventure. Christy Romano really brings the characters to life and has excellent voices for each one. Her tone of voice is perfect, as is the "age" of her voice for the characters.
I like that Alix keeps making the same mistakes, is still the same character but towards the end she's realizing that she's gotta get her act together. The ending (no spoilers!) totally slayed me! I saw it coming but I thought "nope, Kristi won't do it" but then she does it and I was stunned. I have no doubt she's going to do something in the next book and I have it on pre-order already.
One thing I really appreciated about this story compared to the previous was the stopping of name calling. It really bugged me that Alix called Rynn "whore" but it gets resolved and that made me pretty happy.
I also really liked how invested this series is in video games and history, it's such a good mash up!
    Owl and the Electric Samurai
I listened to book 1 on audio, then I read book 2, and now I am back to audio and I guess because I started it on audio I just prefer the audio. I need those voices.
Owl does not have it easy. The IAA is after her (and it was never her fault to begin with). She is under the employment of a dragon and the worst, someone has her cat. Noo, not Captain. I do love a good cat sidekick. He is just there you know, and his growls plays a big part.
I like Owl, she is snarky (sure maybe too much for her own good but who cares). She loves cats and history. Gotta love that.
Anyway, in this one she must find two guys for the IAA and that is just the beginning. In comes the mystery of the electric samurai.

    Publisher's Summary:
Jason stood in front of the gravestone of Coach Mossberg. The coach had been a mentor and protector to him. His sudden loss effected the whole community. Chills went down Jason's spine. It was an eerie feeling, like someone was looking at him. A voice from behind him said, "He's not here you know." Jason turned to see a short, straight-backed man standing there.
"Talcott? Is that you? What are you doing here?"
"I've come to bring you back."
Jason shook his head vigorously. "I don't want to go back."
The wizard's face reddened and his eyes flashed with anger. "You are the hero of the land, and the land needs you. You have no choice."
Jason stepped back. He hadn't wanted to upset Talcott. He was just speaking the truth. Taking a deep breath, Talcott relaxed his shoulders. "There are dragons in the land. Coach Mossberg tried to help, but he's been captured by them and now sits behind bars in the dungeon. The evil king is free and sits again on the throne."
"What happened, I thought the coach was dead?"
"He is very much alive, but you need to save him and slay the dragons."
"Dragons?" Jason's thought his heart would burst out of his chest it was beating so hard.
"Fear not, you are the hero. The slayer of the Osgarth."
"I'm just a high school kid." Talcott heaved a large sigh.
"I thought you might come willingly this time. It matters not, you will still come." Then he turned and walked away, leaving Jason alone. Dejected, Jason walked home. I can't kill dragons. What am I going to do?

A book for every aspiring hero!
A wonderful adventure book for tweens and on up. Strong teen boy hero with a good relationship with his parents yet enough independence to be a strong hero in the story too. Good adventure plot! The whole town was involved. A great read that I will buy for my tween grandson, who is hard to buy books for, with all of the electronic gadgets surrounding him! I will read more of Clark Graham.

    Worthwhile listen
A nice addition to the Mercy series. The male narrator was good but I felt he was unnecessary.
    Great story
The story is as always excellent but I didn't like having two narrators. For me Lorelei King on her own would have been better.
    Patricia Briggs Brilliance Continues
The Mercy Thompson story continues at a pace. This is book 10 in the series and is as strong as ever.
Patricia's writing has produced strong characterisation with new individuals being introduced with fully developed personalities, some good and some not so good.
As often happens the storyline starts with Mercy happy and content and then her world falls to pieces. this time she ends up in another country, at the start having to rely on her own abilities.
Will definitely reread and I would highly recommend this book but I would, also say start at the beginning of this series, all the books are brilliant.
    shame really
didn't feel the man reading had quite the right voice. story very good, no surprises but very enjoyable
    brilliant as always
love all the Mercy books, this one is no exception. love all the characters and can't wait for the next

    Publisher: Audible Studios

Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Fantasy: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
Kate Conner is an expert at multi-tasking. Wife, mom, demon-hunter. She can stuff hundreds of Easter eggs for the neighborhood fair and still have enough energy to pummel a demon back into the ether.
But Kate's life has gotten more complicated. Her first husband has returned from the dead in the body of her daughter's chemistry teacher. Different body, same hot desire for Kate. Her daughter now obsesses about becoming a demon-hunter the way she used to obsess about boys.
And her current husband is suddenly very suspicious of his wife's extra-domestic activities. What is she doing and who is she doing it with?
And the threat has gotten bigger. A powerful high demon has returned to San Diablo, seeking not only the key to invincibility, but revenge upon Kate - and Kate's family. And just in case that wasn't trouble enough, there's a new kind of evil in suburbia. The walking dead kind. And they don't mind making house calls.
    Critic Reviews:
"Ninety-nine percent of the wives and moms in the country will identify with this heroine. I mean, like who hasn't had to battle demons between car pools and play dates?" (Jayne Ann Krentz, New York Times best-selling author)
    Members Reviews:
Deja Demons --- Another Good Book
When I started reading Julie Kenner's Demon Hunting Soccer Mom books I wondered if she would run out of good material or if I would grow bored with the series. Deja Demons is book number four and I'm already looking forward to reading book number five.
I feel like I'm reunited with people I know and like each time I start a new book. Ms Kenner writes about her characters in such a way that I forget they're not real. Her plots are interesting and always serve up plenty of surprises There is never a conversation or comment that doesn't ring true. There are some major events in this book that you don't want to miss.
    Demon Hunting Fun!
Julie Kenner writes a great story that all suburban moms can identify with as they run their daily carpooling lives. This plot brings the humdrum tasks of stuffing easter eggs to an all-time high as the heroine fights off demons and zombies and explains why a zombie hand is crawling through her dining room to a group of startled dinner guests. A wonderful, tongue-in-cheek read.
    So So
It pains me, but I have to give "Deja Demon" an average rating. Unlike Kenner's previous Kate Connor books, I wasn't completely enthralled. Here, Kate is again working the suburban super mom by day, demon hunter by night gig. Now more friends and family know about her than not. Her daughter is a hunter in training, her best friend helps with research, and Eddie (the live in elderly man who is NOT her husband's grandpa) pitches in to help time and again. This book is very similar to the last book, except stakes have been raised a little. With her daughter actively involved, Kate spends a lot of time worried about her. David/Eric her dead husband brought back to life, is flirting with her and making her weak in the knees...unfortunately her new husband Stuart does the same. Now a super demon is about to rise and take over the world and right when Kate is in the middle of planning the neighborhood Easter Egg hunt! I actually thought the Easter Egg hunt seemed forced...there was very minimal attention given to that plot and I think it could have been used for some funny stuff.

    Wormhole To A Savage Land
Yes, the book is precisely what you see above, someone goes through a wormhole to a savage alternate dimension.
But, as luck and writers would have it, the main protagonist has always been fascinated by living as if he were in the stone age. Hunting with a home made bow and making his own stone arrowheads, etc. Funny how that worked out.
We get a lot of "This is my version of paradise - I was born for this!" quickly followed by "I need to escape this world and get back to my own.".
    A LOT.
We get it. He is conflicted.
That aside, he storyline is pretty good and gets better the farther you read.
You do get a kitchen sink sort of a feeling as everything is thrown in for, at least, your consideration.
Savage land with prehistoric beasts - check.
    Court intrigue - Check.
    Love story - check.
    Time travel - check.
    Nazi's - check.(complete with Nazi super-weapon)
Biblical beings - check (not supernatural mind you).

Yes, it sounds like I am trashing the book.
    But I am not.
I liked it and have already pre-ordered the sequel.
This turned out to be a lot of fun.
I recommend this book if you enjoy Edgar Rice Burroughs style adventures.
    cant wait for the sequel
Loved the premise, could not put it down...very well narrated as well, loved the character's
    Great Story; Title Sucks
Very good inventive plot, once one gets past the title. The narration was better than average, not great. We have our usual hero with the formative angst that seems to be so popular today who trades places getting saved by our usual beautiful kick-ass heroine throughout the story. How and where our hero and heroine perform their derring-do is unique and attention grabbing. It is a first time effort at science fiction that shows much promise. Seriously don't think you will be disappointed.
The book begs for a sequel or series. I almost skipped on this one because of the title, but decided to risk a credit solely based on the rave Amazon reviews.

    Members Reviews:
A bit of a slim story.
Compared to the previous 4 books from Peter this was a bit slim in depth an focused too much on lust. Only my opinion. I prefer the depth of the commonwealth series. My review typed on my phone in a hurry.
    Plot of a soap opera
Struggled through tithe end in the hope of a plot because I'd paid good money to listen to this book. no better than a day time soap episode, just very poor.
    Sci-Fi
Not sure what percentage of a story needs to be sci-Fi in order for it to be listed as a Sc-iF book, but you won't find much in this. This was almost a Jeffrey Archer listen. Unfortunately it is a long winded and dull. I very much enjoyed this authors other books but think this book is a dud.
    Not Hamilton's usual standard.
Slow story. Not very enthralling as the only characters that I felt any empathy for were minor roles. Was more of a soap opera than sci-fi. (If you like stories where Bob is knobbing Dave's girlfriend and the resultant drama that occurs when Dave inevitably walks in at the worst possible moment... then this might be for you)
On the plus side, there were a couple of cameos from later books that were quite a treat.
    Ending felt rather abrupt.
Audio performance wasn't great either. Very little range between characters.
    Boring Soap opera
Unfortunately after reading and falling in love with Peter F hamiltons epic space opera stories, especially those set in the commonwealth, I decided to listen to this in hope of some back story to the development of the rejuvenation process. If your looking for an epic Sci fi story with an epic plot with all the twists and turns we've come to expect from Hamilton, or in fact any plot then don't listen to this, if your wanting a story about a father and son relationship and there feelings for each other than this is just that book.
Unfortunately I went into this book expecting way too much, which possibly could have ruined it for me but after listening to it, I wish I hadn't stuck it out to the end in hope of a big finale as there just wasn't anything worth waiting for!
Apologies to slate the book but it isn't sci-fi and is definitely not my kind of thing, it's more a romantic novel.

    Fabulous!!
If you could sum up Dancing with Flames in three words, what would they be?
I love this series, its full of adventure, romance, mystery and originality.
The characters are wonderfully complex yet simply as is the story line.
    absolutely worth the credit
something new with dragons and an apocalypse I really like this series if you like a heroine with sass ,action and a great story this is for you
A solid four star urban fantasy!
I feel like this series develops at a steady, good pace. The world-building is clear and established, the romance is a very slow burn, and the action sequences are as tasty as ever. Overall, big thumbs up to Susan and her dragon slayer.
Bailey continues her training with Aidan, who not only wants her as a strong ally to his shifter clan, but is more and more attracted to her on a personal level. Aidan's character has some fantastic development in this book, starting from competing with his brothers and a sister for pendragon's seat where he brokers a peace treaty and helps in a murder investigation, and ending with revealed hidden agenda. I admit that his parts were my favorite, as I find dragon-shifters fascinating.
Bailey was no slouch either. She developed skills with new weaponry, learned to build tolerance to dragons, so she won't attack Aidan and his clansmen on sight and completed an intricate task of bartering with a sorcerer to find kidnapped children.
Both Aidan and Bailey are strong characters with memorable and likeable cast of supporting characters whom I can easily imagine developing their on stories in future books. Definitely, Donar, Conrad and Fibi (sorry if the spelling is wrong as it was on audio) deserve their own books as their characters strongly shine through the narrative.
It was a solid, steady, enjoyable urban fantasy which continues to expand its world-building with each new book. Recommended.
AGAIN--A+ Story and Narration--I want more!
    Well this story is growing---fast.
After the world has changed in a matter of 24 hours (book 1) to (book 2); where it is now four months later. The people, the survivors of Green Dragon attacks, are learning to live in hiding and live without--without clothes, without food, without toilets, and without running water. All while Bailey is training with Aidan (shifter/dragon) to become a dragon killer.

"Epic fantasy for readers who appreciate extra helpings of carnage with their backstabbing." (Publishers Weekly on Battlemage)
"Aryan's battle scenes are visceral masterpieces that transport the reader deep into the melee." (Taran Matharu, author of the Summoner novels)

Fantasy violence and magic. Good stuff.
Would you consider the audio edition of Chaosmage to be better than the print version?
I've not read the print version but I'm a huge fan of Matt Addis as a narrator, he adds a lot to the story so I can't see the print version being better.
What other book might you compare Chaosmage to, and why?
If you've read Battlemage and Bloodmage, this is closer to Battlemage, especially in terms of fighting, magic and violence. If you've not read books 1 and 2, fans of Brandon Sanderson probably will not be left too disappointed for story line and complexity of characters.
Which character as performed by Matt Addis was your favourite?
He has such a broad range, giving each race a particular accent. I think he suits a wide range and his female voice is pretty good (not that silly weak voice so many male narrators go with). To answer the question though, I've enjoyed his interpretation of Vargus throughout.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
It's not really that sort of story.....
    Any additional comments?
A good third book in the series. I liked it better than Bloodmage.
    excellent book
what another great book. couldn't stop listening and follows on well from the first two.
    awesome
im in love with this series of books and cant wait for the next one . the story is compelling and the narrator is great
    Conclusion, but not quite
The Age of Darkness comes to an end with this book and it is an exciting, it violent, conclusion. However, it is clear that there is plenty of room for the next age to start - hence the new novel coming out soon.
My biggest criticism is that too many of the individual stories are inconclusive. I had expected that by the end of the trilogy that I would know what happened to some of those characters who had been introduced but unfortunately this was not the case. Perhaps this says more about my liking for tying up of lose ends rather than the novel itself.
    well worth listening to
this whole series was a great wAy to pass the hours away.
as this is the last of 3 books start with the first one.
it is very easy to listen to woth a super narrater
its an easy series to get into with none of the usual padding that trilogys use to lengten the story.its a great listen and i recomend it highly for its easy listening and great excitment
