Dismal & without redemption
The author does have a way with words, but the first book (which by the way, is the first 2 books. That's right, the 1st one is a cliffhanger, & I despise being duped) This book is the 1st 50%of the boxed set. That is as far as I wanted to read, but I read the 1st chapter of the next book & deleted it from my kindle. The brutality is beyond my sensibilities. I want to enjoy reading, not be horrified.
Back to the first half of the book, as I said, the writer has a way with words that are quite descriptive, but to the point. He left me feeling saddened, morose, & just bleak reading this book. There was nothing about it that was redeeming or hopeful & the ending was lackluster. There was no satisfaction of seeing the corporate bigwigs get what was coming to them, just more sorrow for one family left in shambles.The end was just thrown together in a few pages. It left me feeling like I do after watching the news on TV.......forlorn.
Now I must find something to read that will take the taste of this dismal story out of my mind & this writer out of my life.

Excellent thriller with plenty of action and suspense, Amazon has some amazing books that should be made into movies and this is one! 2 thumbs up.

Good plot and full of twists and turns prepare yourself for a rollercoaster ride of emotions
Gritty realistic crime fiction
This box set was incredibly good value and contained a number of different stories in two separate series. The main characters were interesting and strong women forced into difficult situations and I felt they were well written characters with depth and nuance. The stories are gritty and violent and not for lovers of happy hearts and flowers type endings! The first series set in the fracking industry of North Dakota was desolate and dark and made me hope I never got anywhere near fracking. I really liked these books and would recommend James Hunt highly.
Tangled, terrifying story...
... almost without redemption in the end. Should we always be looking for redemption? I don't know but quite possibly if we want the world to have value. While this author seems to be obsessed with red cheeks and focuses on them in the many rages his characters have - and is additionally obsessed with "smacking" - the story is compelling. Summary: Great story; extremely limited vocabulary, occasional grammatical and spelling errors.
