The setting, the protagonist, the story. All of these elements really came together in this story in a way that kept me guessing till the end.

The narration by Don Amodio really brought this story to life. This was my first audio book experience, and he really helped me escape into the story. Looking forward to his next adventure.

Fairly good story but didn't love narration

I enjoyed the majority of the story (however the end was a little bit too far fetched for my liking) but there were aspects of the narration that bothered me. The voices for Bailey's boyfriend Beau and for Gillian were extremely irritating. The "Boston accent" that was used was unbelievable for 2 reasons.... 1. it was extremely off 2. the vast majority of people living in the Berkshires would not have a Boston accent

Entertained and surprising Story

Very well articulated story. It gets you to think in a determined way and suddenly it shifts in 180 degrees the point of the game. It makes you to feel the frustration and uncertainty of making sense again.

The plot had promise but it just is too convenient with just in time saves. The author should have spent more time developing the characters rather than just chasing sensational situations.

Dismal & without redemption

The author does have a way with words, but the first book (which by the way, is the first 2 books. That's right, the 1st one is a cliffhanger, & I despise being duped) This book is the 1st 50%of the boxed set. That is as far as I wanted to read, but I read the 1st chapter of the next book & deleted it from my kindle. The brutality is beyond my sensibilities. I want to enjoy reading, not be horrified.

Back to the first half of the book, as I said, the writer has a way with words that are quite descriptive, but to the point. He left me feeling saddened, morose, & just bleak reading this book. There was nothing about it that was redeeming or hopeful & the ending was lackluster. There was no satisfaction of seeing the corporate bigwigs get what was coming to them, just more sorrow for one family left in shambles.The end was just thrown together in a few pages. It left me feeling like I do after watching the news on TV.......forlorn.

Now I must find something to read that will take the taste of this dismal story out of my mind & this writer out of my life.

Good storylines

Good plot and full of twists and turns prepare yourself for a rollercoaster ride of emotions

Gritty realistic crime fiction

This box set was incredibly good value and contained a number of different stories in two separate series. The main characters were interesting and strong women forced into difficult situations and I felt they were well written characters with depth and nuance. The stories are gritty and violent and not for lovers of happy hearts and flowers type endings! The first series set in the fracking industry of North Dakota was desolate and dark and made me hope I never got anywhere near fracking. I really liked these books and would recommend James Hunt highly.

Tangled, terrifying story...

... almost without redemption in the end. Should we always be looking for redemption? I don't know but quite possibly if we want the world to have value. While this author seems to be obsessed with red cheeks and focuses on them in the many rages his characters have - and is additionally obsessed with "smacking" - the story is compelling. Summary: Great story; extremely limited vocabulary, occasional grammatical and spelling errors.

The mystery and characters are developed and well written. However, the actions of the characters are unrealistic. I rolled my ideas several times during the book because things turned out to perfectly. Also Claire proved to be a true busy body who had no reason to investigate a murder.

Slight spoiler, info that is later in the book

Does mr. Macbride have children I wonder? I found the story of the 8 year old boy unbelievable and the way they treated that crime. I'm not sure Ivey ever even heard of that type of murder by a child that young. If so, it's handled very differently than I believe they handled it. Of course, I'm in the US... but still locking an 8 year old up until he is 30? I doubt that entire narrative. I hope in the future me. Macbride does more research on child crime. The way they manhandled him etc....sorry I didn't buy it. Not 8. I have a grandson 8 years old. I know what they are capable of. Certainly not this kind of crime.even IF he could we don't treat children like adult criminals...he was even a teen.

As anyone who has read mr macbride knows these are great books. Don't hesitate because of minor flaws. I just wanted to point that out because it bothered me. Otherwise great narration, fascinating story. Enjoy.

Another great one.

Gruesome at times but a fabulous read. The characters are quite interesting and the black humor had me chuckling aloud. I enjoy this series and the narration is perfect. I'm only sorry the next book in the series isn't available at Audible for another few weeks. I have it pre-ordered.

Simply Brilliant

I believe this is my favourite book so far. Logan and Detective Steele are great characters. Would definitely recommend this book. You won't put it down

A romantic comedy meets mystery

Note: this is not a cozy mystery. There are scenes with attempted rape, cussing, and graphic sexual scenes. Just mentioning for those who are sensitive to such topics.

This book was a laugh out loud romantic comedy mystery. Christina is hilarious, and hearing her inner monologue adds a dimension which made this book very enjoyable. Christina finds herself in a bind when one of her clients dies in her office & she becomes the top suspect. That's when we meet Rivera, the head police in the investigation. There begins a game of cat and mouse going on with Chrissy & Rivera, which is sometimes funny but other times.. disturbing? Rivera is controlling and possessive and I get 50 shades of grey vibes. He seems to get off on being verbally aggressive and controlling with Christina, and I'm not a fan of that. But there are a lot of other great characters who round this book out, including Soleburg. Another touch I loved were the quotes at the beginning of each chapter. There are a lot of little touches like these which made this a great listen! I was voluntarily provided a review copy and gave my honest review

One of my all time favorites finally released to Audible!

I've been waiting years for the Lois Greiman "Un" series to be released in audio. Though it's been a couple years since I read it last, it quickly came back to me why I recommend this series to anyone that will listen. Chrissy McMullen is a smart, witty, and relatable character. I find myself caught up in the same emotions as her throughout the book...and the interaction between her and Rivera is laugh out loud entertaining.

If you enjoyed the early Stephanie Plum series, be sure to check out Chrissy McMullen. You won't be disappointed...here's hoping Unplugged, Unscrewed and Unmanned are released on Audible soon!

This story is quite convoluted. Religion and myth are mixed together to make solving this case difficult.

Dying mothers

Good detective story with a lot of colorful characters which kept my interest all the way to the end. Very good narration.

Story good, narration not so much

Another enjoyable installment in the series. Interesting case and characters. I wouldnt start with this one because youll miss out on character and relationship development; plus, the cases from the previous two books are brought up so you couldnt go back and read them later without knowing what happened. I recommend reading this series in order.

I listened to most of this on audio but finished the last quarter on my kindle and I have to say that, given the choice of narrators, I recommend the print version over the audio. The book chapters are told from two different first person perspectives Serenitys and Daniels, but mostly Serenitys. There are different narrators for each, so the same characters have different voices depending on who is reading the chapter. Its a bit annoying. Also, the voice for Serenity doesnt match her character. Its not strong enough. She would probably be fine for a different book but I didnt care for her as Serenity. The book sounded so much better in my head when I read it in print.

Brilliant

Few authors can leave you deeply satisfied, and yet longing for more. Paul Doiron is one of those rarities.

Another great installment

Paul Doiron has written another great installment for the Mike Bowditch series. He brings to life all the beautiful scenery as well as the evil that surrounds it. Henry Leyva, as usual brings it all to life, he IS the voice of Mike Bowditch. I highly recommend this book and series, and suggest you start with the first in the series.

Addictive Series

This is the best of the Mike Bowditch stories so far. I love the world Paul Doiron has created. I am not from Maine and reading these stories makes me want to visit and see where the novels are set.

Mike is loveable, like a puppy. Most of the female characters are strong and tough -- like cacti. They are prickly and contentious. Interesting, but I would not like to get close to them.

The narrator is almost perfect. I can't imagine Mike having any other voice. If only he would look ahead a bit and not put pauses in the wrong places. I think he often pauses at the end of a written line, so it results in readings like,"He got out [pause] of the car. It's a bit disconcerting.

I do highly recommend this series. Start at the beginning.

Another good Doiron mystery

In fact, this is one of his best and I've read them all. I was so caught up in the story, I got out a Maine map to find our location. This one kept me guessing until near the end, very compelling.
