The d6 collections just keep getting better!
I may honestly like the C&C short stories more than the actual novels in the series. These are just the sorts of silly, snack sized adventures that feel the most like gamers blundering around in a game world. Jonathan Sleep's narration continues to be amazing. Now I've got through these I'll be anxiously awaiting CF4 and 4d6!
    Excellent as always
Robert Bevan gives another funny and exciting adventure with the Caverns and Creatures crew. I really enjoy his work and this is just as good as all the the other books in the series. Consistently good as always.
    Addicting
The worst thing about Bevan's stories, is the wait for the next ones. Perfect, laugh out loud, low brow escapism.
    Brilliant!
A masterwork of humor, entendre, creative misunderstanding, and equine abuse! Everything you have come to love in Mr. Bevan's stories and Mr. Sleep's narration. Kudos, gentlemen. You have done it again.
I've run adventures like this dozens of times.
What made the experience of listening to 3d6 the most enjoyable?
    1. Vulgar potty humor and a touch of sincerity work surprisingly well together.
    2. I used to be a pretty big D&D nerd. Until I had kids, I was basically a much thinner Mordred without the magic dice and cape (I preferred a cloak) . Bevin very nearly has the 3rd edition rules spot on. I appreciate that. It shows he loves the game as much as I do.
    .
What other book might you compare 3d6 to and why?
None. I've never read another book like this. The best comparison I can think of is that It's like all the grossest jokes I heard from 3rd grade through junior high took my 3rd edition Players Handbook to prom. Nine months later the Critical Failures series was born.
What does Jonathan Sleep bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Sleep's delivery is different than my internal narrator. Don't get me wrong, my internal narrator is good, but so is Sleep. When I read the book, I hear my version. When I listen to the book, I get to hear both.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I experienced sudden bursts of laughter followed by acute embarrassment. Worth it.
    Any additional comments?
We just got Critical Failures IV on Audible, but Critical Failures V is already in print, and 4d6 has been out for nearly a year. What's the hold up on the audio versions? I want to give you my money!

    Format: Unabridged
Length: 1 hr and 26 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 09-20-16

    Publisher's Summary:
Arisa: a world of loss and hardship; of legend and wonder; the world of A Warrior's Path. Return there now with Stories from Arisa, a short story collection featuring four wonderful new fables from that mythic place; each one a polished gem; together, an assemblage spanning the realms of hope, humor, tragedy, loss, and love.
    "Received Wisdom"
The Baels of the Eastern Plague have fallen away from Hume's teachings. It is Li-Dirge who finds leadership thrust upon him. He must challenge the SarpanKum and return his brothers to the path of fraternity.
    "The Prank"
The House of Fire and Mirrors. The Fort and the Sword. Both are Kumma military academies and fierce rivals in the city of Ashoka. The Wrath is the annual competition between the two schools, deciding bragging rights for the next year, but it is the Prank that dictates who laughs last and longest. This year, it is especially important for Rukh, Keemo, Farn, and Jaresh.
    "A Lesson Learned"
Drin Port only wanted a long, tall drink. Many long, tall drinks. When chance brings him the opportunity of a lifetime, will he have the wisdom to take advantage of it?
    "The Missing Diamond"
Rector Bryce is called upon to investigate a missing diamond. The thief is not at all who he would have expected.
    Members Reviews:
This was a must have for me...
As a fantasy author, I can truthfully say that Davis Ashura is one of my favorite fantasy authors. I'm so glad I discovered this series. SFA is a collection of short stories that give greater insight and depth into the world of Arisa and many characters you might not get as much face time as you would like in the full length novels. Each of the 4 stories delivers comedy, intrigue, action, or just plain good thought-provoking prose. I both listened to and read these collection. Nick Pohdel continues to be a perfect match as a voice for this content. If you're a fan of the Castes and the OutCastes, Stories From Arisa is a must have! You'll find yourself wanting to go back and re-read the series to see where all these stories fit in to the overarching plot.
    4 stories...thats it?
I fully expected that there would be closure or at least a continuance of Jazeera and Rukh's story. there is still so much that i want to hear about Arisa. for example... Defiance. Suwraitth is gone but there was still so much unexplained at the end you could write two more books about it. here's hoping that happens because the trilogy was fantastic.
    Too Short
Generally I don't like reviews of short stories that say they are too short. Seriously, what do you expect? But I have to make an exception here because these stories are too short, even by short story standards.
Most of them are so short that they lack depth, particularly the one featuring Rector Bryce. I wish Ashura had fleshed out one or two stories even a little, rather than including 4 tiny ones. They had promise, and I like the idea of learning a little more about Arisa. My favorite of the 4 was the one about the baels, which did show some depth despite its length.

    Title: Borrowed Time
    Author: Jack Campbell
    Narrator: Adam Verner
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 7 hrs and 10 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 09-06-16
    Publisher: Tantor Audio
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 32 votes
    Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy
    Publisher's Summary:
New York Times best-selling author Jack Campbell takes listeners on an incredible journey through time in this collection of seven stories.
The centerpiece of Borrowed Time is "Betty Knox and Dictionary Jones in the Mystery of the Missing Teenage Anachronisms". When you've traveled through time and are stuck in the body of your 15-year-old self, it isn't the best time to have some other time travelers looking to kill you. Especially when the person who's supposed to be keeping an eye out for the bad guys is stuck in his own 15-year-old body.
In four interlinked short stories, temporal interventionists Tom and Pam meet cute, then work together to solve some of history's greatest mysteries. And in "Joan", Kate is a time-traveling researcher who's gotten a little too close to Joan of Arc both in time and emotionally. With no distance, scientific or otherwise, what will happen when she has a chance to rescue Joan from being burnt at the stake?
Our journey through time concludes with "Crow's Feat", where a skeptical writer goes back to Elizabethan England to discover the true author of Shakespeare's plays.
    Members Reviews:
some of these were very thought-provoking!
Here are some stories about time travel that will tickle your space-time-continuum funny bone. Especially interesting are the ones that explain actual historical events through possible time travel interventions.
    What a disappointment!
I've struggled with the spin off Syndicate Worlds series Lost Stars but generally not actively disliked it. just about every other series I have enjoyed enough to always look for new books out. Jack! How could you publish this meandering, uninteresting jumble of "stories"? This collection should have been left for your estate to publish after you decided it wasn't good enough for your fans.
Collections of stories based on a popular series often don't work and take my word for it that this is a spectacular exhibit of that problem. Even the Honor Harrington and 1632 collections, some of the best IMO, don't always thrill me but this book was painful.
Get a grip on your next work, please. this one's going back after trying one last time to find anything redeeming in it.

a shortstory that later lead to a well loved book
this short story is different than the full length book although it has mani simularaties. it is a fine story but the full book is buch better with fuller character and backstory. i resomend both but they each stand on there own.
    Poorly done.
Best parts of story were cut out. Having read the book the ending was totally changed. don't waste your time.

A Great Return To The World We Love
Steven Pacey reading Joe Abercrombie may just be my favorite audible flavor. Something about that combination is just so compelling. Joe is of course a premiere - if not the preeminent- fantasy author, so much credit must be given him, but Pacey brings life to the material in a way that is hard to fathom. Michael Page is quite talented, but to me, Pacey is Abercrombie. And this collection of short stories is like cool cucumber water to a man fresh from the wastes. It's only a cup, but it's worth the price at twice the cost. For those nervous about the short story aspect of the endeavor, as I was, I suggest you keep your expectations low and dive in. There's more here than one would expect from a collection of short stories, which I generally disfavor.
Fun stories but not enough content to be great
Havingenjoyed all 6 existing books inAbercrombie'sFirst Lawseries Ifind myself always craving for more. That is why I picked up Sharp Endsdespite the fact thatI tend to not like collections of short stories. Add on that Steven Pacey narrated this audiobook and there was no way Icould resist it. The Abercrombie/Pacey combo is one of the best that I have ever listened to and the two of them just bring out the best in each other. Pacey's narration of these characters is just superb and I highly recommend that you give the entire series a listen even if you have already read it.To my delight many of my favorite charactersfrom the prior books do make an appearance in these short stories including, but not limited to, Glokta, Logen, Dogman, Bethod, Whirrun, and Nicomo Cosca. However, in the end, the short story format left me wanting more and feeling unsatisfied as favorite characters appeared and were gone before I knew it.
Most of the stories with the characters mentioned above are short and are over way too quickly. That would be fine if someof them didn't feel incomplete at the same time. Spending time with Glokta before he was captured was quite entertaining butwhen the events are interrupted by an attackthe story abruptly ends.

Interesting story in a futuristic setting.
I liked the story. I may actually listen to it again sometime soon. It is a journey indeed.
    Great story
I loved it! It sucked me in. Wish it was longer. Over much too soon.
    overall pretty good.
The subject was pretty interesting. I felt a lot of moments were over-explained but enjoyable non-the-less. I thought the author did a fine job with the reading.
    Fantastic introduction
This brief audiobook is a perfect teaser to this series! I was a bit skeptical at first, but I got hooked.
    Nice introduction to this author
As an American, maybe its no surprise that I have never heard of Isobelle Carmody, but Im glad I discovered her. I look forward to discovering more of her SciFi novels in both audio and ebook.

    Title: Octavia's Brood
Subtitle: Science Fiction Stories from Social Justice Movements
Author: Adrienne Maree Brown, Walidah Imarisha
    Narrator: Je Nie Fleming
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 11 hrs and 25 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 04-05-16
    Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 35 votes
    Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy
    Publisher's Summary:
Whenever we envision a world without war, without prisons, without capitalism, we are producing speculative fiction. Organizers and activists envision and try to create such worlds all the time. Walidah Imarisha and adrienne maree brown have brought 20 of them together in the first anthology of short stories to explore the connections between radical speculative fiction and movements for social change. The visionary tales of Octavia's Brood span genres - sci-fi, fantasy, horror, magical realism - but all are united by an attempt to inject a healthy dose of imagination and innovation into our political practice and to try on new ways of understanding ourselves, the world around us, and all the selves and worlds that could be. The collection is rounded off with essays by Tananarive Due and Mumia Abu-Jamal and a preface by Sheree Renée Thomas.
    Critic Reviews:
"Those concerned with justice and liberation must always persuade the mass of people that a better world is possible. Our job begins with speculative fictions that fire society's imagination and its desire for change. In adrienne maree brown and Walidah Imarisha's visionary conception, and by its activist-artists' often stunning acts of creative inception, Octavia's Brood makes for great thinking and damn good reading. The rest will be up to us." (Jeff Chang, author of Who We Be: The Colorization of America)
"Conventional exclamatory phrases don't come close to capturing the essence of what we have here in Octavia's Brood. One part sacred text, one part social movement manual, one part diary of our future selves telling us, 'It's going to be okay, keep working, keep loving.' Our radical imaginations are under siege and this text is the rescue mission. It is the new cornerstone of every class I teach on inequality, justice, and social change.... This is the text we've been waiting for." (Ruha Benjamin, professor of African American studies at Princeton University and author of People's Science: Bodies and Rights on the Stem Cell Frontier)
"Octavia once told me that two things worried her about the future of humanity: The tendency to think hierarchically, and the tendency to place ourselves higher on the hierarchy than others. I think she would be humbled beyond words that the fine, thoughtful writers in this volume have honored her with their hearts and minds. And that in calling for us to consider that hierarchical structure, they are not walking in her shadow, nor standing on her shoulders, but marching at her side." (Steven Barnes, author of Lion's Blood)
    Members Reviews:
    Octavia Would Be Proud
Octavia Butler would be proud of these writers. Her influence and imagination are all over these stories. "Tragic times do not beg for complexity," an observation in the first story is a terrifyingly topical note on how demagogues take power, one that reminds me of reading her "Parable" series during the white supremacist resurgence of the Nineties. It all felt so on the nose.
The stories are strong throughout and hold up a necessary and vivid mirror to the current political climate while remaining enormously entertaining.
Butler broadened the horizons of science fiction for millions.

"Viajé, amé, perdí, confié y me traicionaron."
"He robado princesas a reyes agónicos. Incendié la ciudad de Trebon. He pasado la noche con Felurian y he despertado vivo y cuerdo. Me expulsaron de la Universidad a una edad a la que a la mayoría todavía no los dejan entrar. He recorrido de noche caminos de los que otros no se atreven a hablar ni siquiera de día. He hablado con dioses, he amado a mujeres y he escrito canciones que hacen llorar a los bardos.
"Me llamo Kvothe.

    Encantador
Me encantó. No hay otra forma de expresarlo. En verdad una preciosa aventura. Recomendado para personas e mentes libres de dogmas.
