    Title: No Kind of Hero
    Subtitle: Portland Devils, Book 2
    Author: Rosalind James
    Narrator: Tanya Eby
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 11 hrs and 20 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 08-15-17
    Publisher: Rosalind James

    Genres: Romance, Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
Some men are hard to quit.
Beth Schaefer isn't just on the partnership track at her Portland law firm, she's in the lead. Unfortunately, she's about to fall at the finish line. When she makes a list of breakdown destinations, she can't even manage to choose between them. Which means she has to come home to Wild Horse, Idaho, for her breakdown. She has exactly 18.5 days of accumulated vacation time to devote to it.
Evan O'Donnell's girlfriend took off when their baby girl was a month old, and that's just fine by him. His daughter Gracie is all the female companionship he needs, thank you very much. Beth Schaefer's not even in the running. Eight years ago, her parents convinced her to give him up, and he's had enough of snobs and women who don't stick. Evan's a blue-collar guy from his too-broad shoulders to his scuffed work boots, and he's nobody's white knight, and nobody's hero. Not anymore.
But what if Beth isn't the only one who needs saving?
    Members Reviews:
Real people fall in love . . . again
Evan is the strong and silent type. Beth is a mixed up almost-partner lawyer. They had a history together nearly a decade ago and Beth ran out on it to be the good little daughter and go to college and become a lawyer in the big city. Evan got injured out of a pro football career, but liked his small town home better anyway. He is now partners in a painting company and busy as the small town has added a fancy resort. He's also a new single father whose partner ran out on him and their adorable baby, Gracie. Evan's down to earth while Beth is busy trying to figure out what on earth she has been doing working lawyer hours in the big city with no apparent life. (Oh, what we think we want when we start our careers and how they really turn out. . . that realism is always a place where Rosalind James shines!)
I found Beth hard to like, especially at first. Admirable, yes, but not so likeable because who is she, really? This story has to move fast because she's on a short timetable, but that works because of their past history and the small town make it hard not to know what someone is like. Beth eventually peels off the layers of herself that don't fit and does become more authentic. She was really a hometown girl at heart, too.
She and Evan have to get past their past and figure out if they have a future together while also juggling career aspirations plus assorted family members.
I enjoyed Tanya Eby's reading, but liked her female voices best. She did a good Beth and made fun baby noises for Gracie. :)
I received a free copy of this audio book in exchange for an honest review. I already had the ebook. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.
    Great story
This is book 2 but like all Rosalind James books, you don't need to read book 1 first. I loved the main character, Evan. I had a harder time relating to Beth, I really don't have anything in common with her other than loving her dog. Despite that, she is a well developed character that I enjoyed following. I also love the small town setting, it reminds me of where I grew up. As with all stories by this author, the characters and story line are beautifully written. I cried, laughed, and got all hot and bothered within the 1st 1/3 of the book.

    Publisher's Summary:
Daisy Grace Webber's life hasn't exactly turned out how she thought it would. She didn't think she'd drop out of college and come back to the small town she grew up in. To be fair, she didn't think her love of baking would turn into a job at the Violet Hill Cafe either, but it did.
Something else she didn't expect was for Molly Madison to walk back into her life, eight years after she moved away. They'd been best friends forever, or so she'd thought. But Molly is back in town and she's looking...really good, actually. And that reminds Daisy of that one time at a sleepover when they'd kissed during a game of Spin the Bottle. That one kiss has been on her mind since then, but it's irrelevant. Molly isn't into girls.
But as Daisy and Molly spend more time together, feelings start to grow, and Daisy is wondering just how "straight" Molly really is...

    Great Short Story!
Overall, I enjoyed this book. The narrator was good and the story was pleasant. I like the way the author tackled and conveyed difficult aspects within the LGBTQ community throughout the book. Ultimately, a great read!
    Best friends
This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of AudiobookBoom dot com.
I'm not a fan of profanity, so that's really my only issue with the book. I love how the focus on their relationship is based on their friendship as kids. Instead of just focusing on sex, they build a blanket fort, have ticket fights, and play on the swing sets. I liked the supportive mom as opposed to the upset-mom, and the story has a happy ending. The story is told in first person, and I think the narrator was a fantastic fit for the main character. She conveys the emotions of distaste, worry, and excitement very well. She uses a completely different set of mannerisms for mom, which fit the mom figure very well. I wasn't a big fan of molly's voice. if you pay attention, she does speak differently so you can tell them apart, but the pitch isn't significantly different so it can be a little bit difficult.
Second Kiss - short and sweet
Would you consider the audio edition of Second Kiss to be better than the print version?
I haven't read the print version, but the audio version was enjoyable.
Which character as performed by Ramona Master was your favorite?
The narrator did a great job of making me believe she was Daisy. I felt like Daisy was really talking to me.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
    BFF's and more!
    Any additional comments?
I enjoyed this short audiobook. I did wish that Molly's voice didn't always sound sexy, even in regular conversation, but Daisy's voice more than made up for that. The story was cute and sexy. I would read more from this author, and I would listen to this narrator again. I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator.
    Great quick read
    Any additional comments?
Second Kiss by Chelsea M. Cameron was a great book. This book followed Daisy and Molly finding each other after not seeing each other in many years.

The Eternity Series Keeps Getting Better
A Stardance Summer was a great read. I loved the audiobook version because it bring a added dimension to the characters. It is always a delight to get to know characters better through their background story. Brick Callahan and Lilliana Howe have a rich history that added depth to their love story. The Tornado Alleycats were an extra treat and I want to be them when I grow up. As always it was nice to catch up with other Eternity Springs residents. Ms. March as long as you are writing about Eternity Springs I will be reading. Amy Landon excellent job on the narration.

    A perfect contemporary romance!
Let me start by saying I had not read or listened to the first book, This is Reckless, but that did not take away from my enjoyment of This is Effortless. It was obvious to me that there was a backstory, and I will go back now to see where it all started!
This is Effortless is an extremely well written story by Kennedy Fox. The character development was perfect and I really felt like I knew them. Lia Langola brought out the emotion in her very expressive performance.
    I love this whole series.
I Kennedy Fox stories. I can't wait to have Logan and Kayla's story on audibles.

    Any additional comments?
I was provided this audiobook through Audiobook Boom at no charge by the narrator in exchange for an unbiased review.
I decided to buy the first book, "This Is Reckless," before listening to and giving a review on "...Effortless." It was a good move because the first book ends on a huge cliffhanger and really introduces you to the h/H and their relationship BEFORE their "reLAYtionship."
This duet listen was far better than I expected. The story was well written and easy to believe. What hit me the most about the H was a cop having tattoos AND long hair. Be still my heart.
Lia Langola... your rendition of voices in this duet shows your true talent. Wonderful listen!
    TWO BIG THUMBS UP!!
    Great listen!
This book had me hooked and had to listen to it all the way through.
    hooked
loved it. some days I don't have time to sit down and read so the audio version of it helps so much! Lia Langola does such a great job on the narration. she brings the characters to life and her voice conveys so much emotions that she very much IS the character. overall, great job with the narration and definitely want to hear more from the narrator.

It's been almost a year since I've seen her, the only woman that's ever gotten under my skin, and made me wish I was a better man. More than just the washed up hockey player, turned sports journalist whose body is almost as scarred as his soul.
Layla Harper made me hope again. But life has a warped sense of humor, and I wasn't the only Bennett brother that fell for the girl with the caramel colored eyes.
The night I saw Travis with her I knew I'd lost, even before I had the chance to fight. Because one thing I never compete with my brother over is women. Even if the woman stole my breath, and my heart with one single kiss.
And damn, what a kiss it had been.
Now, she's pregnant with my brother's baby. A baby he wants nothing to do with. And he's asked me to clean up his mess.
What he doesn't know is that I'm in love with her, and I have no intention of offering her the deal he's laid out. I have a deal of my own. One that will finally make her mine.

    Beautiful story of second chances
What did you love best about Second Draft?
I loved the journey between Carter and Layla. Carter an alpha hunk with a heart he doesnt know he has and Layla broken but still has a sliver of hope in her guarded heart. I felt this story. I could not stop listening to this sexy heartfelt story until I heard the end.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Second Draft?
There were several memorable moments. But when Travis shows back up and Carter leaves after angry words and words not said. I held my breath thinking no dont go, what you have with Layla is getting stronger each day. But the most memorable is Carter changing his mind racing to Layla in the hospital fighting for her life. The emotions I felt as Carter on the floor hoping praying Layla makes it brought tears to my eyes. He wanted desperately to show Layla her baby. He swore he would be the father to that child no matter what. I was praying holding my breath hoping all would be well.
Which character as performed by Addison Spear was your favorite?
Addison Spear made me feel like Layla was telling me this story of love hurt and family strife.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
A story of loss hope redemption
    Any additional comments?
C M Seabrook has a way of writing a story that draws me in from page 1 and I read or listen to the end. Her stories make me feel.

Second chance romance will all the feels!
Omg this book. It brought out all the emotions. Once I started I couldn't put it down. Just when I thought I knew where the story was going...BAM!...another twist that kept me glued to the pages and anxious to find out what would actually happen.
The first time Layla, a shy, bookish girl tryin hard to work her way to a better life than the one she's running from, meets Carter, a former professional hockey star who's trying to adjust to life off the ice, is when he saves her life, but fails to get her name before parting ways. Their second encounter happens at a club and there he gives her his number. But because of an honest mistake it's the wrong number and Carter loses hope of ever seeing her again. A year passes and Carter finds Layla in the last place he can imagine: living as his brother's roommate in his home.

    Publisher's Summary:
    There's something about this woman....
On a break between overseas jobs, journalist Asher Gaites returns to his hometown of Chicago - and allows his friends to persuade him to check out a hot new singer. At a downtown jazz club, he's soon transfixed by the lyrical voice and sensuous body of a woman who performs behind a thin, shimmering veil.
That could bring a man to his knees.
The veil gives Moroccan American Laila Barek the anonymity she needs since she has never been able to reconcile her family's values with her passion for music. But one man is inexplicably drawn to her. And when Asher confronts her on a subway platform after a gig, he's shocked to recognize the woman who walked away from him nine years ago. Laila has never been able to forget the touch, the feel, the taste of Asher. And despite the doubt and fear that wind their way into their lives, they must trust the heat of their desire to burn down the walls the world has placed between them.
    Members Reviews:
    Fabulously rich and sexy!
Beth Kery's writing just keeps getting better and better! This was such a sweet, hot, sexy story that deals with cultural differences and family loyalty. The heroine was from a background where family is the central focus of the culture and where daughters are especially obedient to their parents and extended family. The hero is from a cold distant but wealthy family. Their journey from their first netting while on vacation to their reunion almost a decade later is moving and sexy. The narration was superb with the wonderful Maxine Mitchell doing what she does best! Great story!
    A second chance!!!!
Laila comes from a close, traditional Moroccan family. Asher is an only child from a distant wealthy family. They meet one college summer and fall head over heels for one another. Family interference ends their summer romance. This listen starts in the present at a guy-pal gathering. Based on the events of this guy-pal night, you go back in time eight years ago when Laila and Asher first met and how it ended. Then fast forward to the present where they meet again by chance. Do they fight for their second chance or do they let their families interfere? I like this slow, erotic burn but I missed having an epilogue. LOVE Maxine Mitchell's narration. It was worth my credit.

Introducing book one in the new Checkmate Duet series from a secret duo of USA Today best-selling authors! This friends-to-lovers romance will have you swooning and laughing from the beginning to the end! Are you ready to play the game?
Drew Fisher is the type of guy every girl wants.
Noble police officer by day, charming prince by night.
He has no idea the effect he has on women, especially me - his little sister's best friend.
I'm the blonde Southern belle who lives up to the cliché, except I have my own quirks. I'm smart as a whip, can change my own oil, and recite the Pledge of Allegiance backward, but he doesn't see that girl.
It'd be easier to forget him if he wasn't my roommate and if the first thing I saw in the morning wasn't his shirtless body covered in tattoos. I've crushed on him since the day we met, but he's made it perfectly clear where we stand. Just friends.
I know I need to move on and accept that his feelings will never be mutual, but every day he smiles at me, I'm left dreaming of what if.
He has girl issues, and I've got a crush I can't deny.
We're friends, but I want more.
One drunken hookup leaves us with much more than a platonic friendship. Pretending it never happened proves to be more difficult than anticipated.
A crazy ex-girlfriend, a dangerous war of stolen glances, and passionate kisses leads to the most reckless battle yet. I won't be a pawn in his game, but I'll play by his rules if it will show him I'm the one worth breaking them for.

    Love Drew and Courtney!
If you could sum up Checkmate: This Is Reckless in three words, what would they be?
    Friends. Lovers. Muffins (blueberry)
What other book might you compare Checkmate: This Is Reckless to and why?
There are tons of friends to lovers books out there, but I would probably compare it to romantic comedies like Lauren Blakely's Full Package. Lots of laughs and steam ;) There's also a bit of taboo (best friend's brother) and a slow burn build-up thrown in for good measure.
What about Lia Langolas performance did you like?
I think her male voices are awesome, but her performance as Courtney was AMAZING!! I loved the southern accent and the way she delivered the perfect amount of sass and attitude, but also vulnerability. Amazing narration!!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
If I could have, I would have! The witty banter between all the characters had me laughing out loud and I really loved the chemistry between Drew and Courtney as well as the friendship with Viola and Travis.
    Any additional comments?
This is book 1 of this duet (the second book has already been released though). The conclusion to Drew and Courtney's story can be found in Checkmate: This is Effortless.
    My Two Pennies
Audiobook wise, incredible! I've listened to this entire series though audio (as well as having the paperback) because I'm hooked on the narration by Lia. Amazing job each and every time. On to the book, hello Deputy Fisher. Courtney & Drew have always been teasing and joking with eachother and she has always spoken her mind about Mia, Drew's girlfriend. I seriously cannot stand that woman and it irks me that Drew is constantly going back to her over and over again.

    Silly and Degrading
In the first two chapters, Laura and Jake squabbled like they were in grade school rather than almost 30 year old adults.
In the third chapter, they started to have angry sex after bickering in public. Then Jake HIT Laura, who meekly submitted to being assaulted and I stopped listening.
It would be really helpful if the book's description included the warning: Promotes sexual abuse and degrading behavior toward women.

    OUTSTANDING & PROFOUND BOOK
I am new to this author with this book but now a fan for life! I cried, laugh, and most of all was instantly drawn into the story. This book is a tear jerker so have your tissue ready.
I would rate this book with more than 5-stars if I could OUTSTANDING book! Bravo
So torn whether I loved this book or hated this book
I just finished this book and I have a pounding headache from the crying. The story was great up to the quarter of the book. Definitely not a HEA. I really don't think I have it in me to read the next book in the series. I loved Thomas and am devastated how it worked out for him. I just don't know what else to say other than 'I don't know how I feel'.
27 Truths broke me but in the best way
This book broke me. I couldn't have loved T (Thomas) any more than I did. He could not have been more perfect but still held that alpha male role. I felt the love develop between T and Ava. She didn't even realize what was missing until she felt true love from T. This book gave me everything I wanted and so much more. I won't give anything away, but when tragedy struck I couldn't have been more heart broken I felt it to my core. Props to MJ fields on this amazing book. I'm starting 27 lies tomorrow and I am hesitant because I think I know how this story will play out and although I do love Luke and initially wanted him with Ava I don't want to like him. I want to keep my heart with T. I would most definitely recommend this book. Normally I'm a fan of using both male and female narrators but she did an excellent job. I can't wait for more :)

Sometimes engagement rings can get lost and then found. Sometimes people can too. All it takes is a heavy-duty dose of karma and the magic of Manhattan to make it all come together.
Leah is a financially destitute new age hippy. James is a wealthy surgeon with a trust fund. She's awkward, he's poised. She's completely crazy, he's way too sane. People might say they have nothing in common, but they'd be wrong. They both live in Manhattan, they both have no idea how to change a baby diaper, and they're both lost ...until they find one another.

This book started off pretty slow, but eventually picked up. It turned out to be an amazing book.
Fun Book with lots of twists
I enjoyed this book in the way it flowed, there were a lot of funny parts and a lot of twists and turns with a happy ending. Leah was a free spirit which was a stark contrast to James's seriousness. Their Journey started off as a mission to return a ring which they both considered a "bad omen". In an effort to give the ring to the other person in a sneaky way, there was a lot of fun involved which brought them closer. This was a fun book to read.
Best Book to listen to in 2017
I really enjoyed listening to this book via Audible. It is far the best book I've listen to in 2017. The crazy plots had me laughing so much that I left work early so that I would no longer be a disturbance. The narrators are are awesome. I laughed and cried throughout the chapters. This book was worth my time and money. I am a new follower of this author. Thank for allowing me to escape. All best Daina
    Over the top
This audiobook was funny and at times ridiculous in its phrasing. I felt like the heroine was somewhat of an idiot at times and found it strange the way you didn't get to hear the hero narration until at least halfway through the story. It was amusing, but I won't be listening to this book again.
