"Candygirl" ist das erste Buch von Michael Merhi. Der Autor, der selbst großer Fan von Clive Barker, Richard Laymon, Stephen King und Jack Ketchum ist, legt mit seinem Erstlingswerk wirklich einen grandiosen Start hin. Michael Merhi schreibt schonungslos. Es ist brutal, ekelerregend und schockierend. Die einzelnen Szenen werden sehr detailliert beschrieben. Ein Schauer nach dem anderen lief mir über den Rücken. Trotzdem war ich fasziniert von der Geschichte und auch von Merhis Schreibstil. Er schreibt flüssig und direkt, ohne lange um den heißen Brei zu reden. Schwache Nerven sollte man bei diesem Buch allerdings nicht haben. Ich bin gespannt, mit was uns Michael Merhi als nächstes in den Bann des Bösen ziehen wird. Fazit: Brutal, brutaler, "Candygirl"! Volle Punktzahl!

Intriguing premise, not your average Vampire story

The authorâs medical background is showing and it makes for a very ingenious plot and definitely sets up for future tales. The writer really sets up the mood and fleshed out the main character and her motivation. The serial novella format makes it prefect for a quick read but makes it hard to review as donât want to give away to much. I canât wait to read the next one. While a serial style this one did not end with a cliffhanger and if you like intelligent storytelling with Vampires this is for you! Now note to author still waiting on sequel to The Renaissance of Aspirin! A modern day medical action thriller with wit and whimsy as well.

A Mystery Worth Biting In To!

Glenn Parris' unique blend of deft storytelling and medical know-how come together to present an answer to the question of how to outsmart an ancient curse that has never been broken. Please write more of Meg's Stories!

An "I can't stop reading this" book. Full of magic, adventure, folklore, history, portals, Scotland, and faerie lands...oh my! I think this writer is a fantastic storyteller.

Sat down and READ.

Teenage romance novels are my guilty vacation reading pleasure. The writing style of this book is charming & relaxing, effortlessly putting pictures in my mind as fast as the words can be read. The author does a spectacular job of world-building. A gem that has been neglected by publication companies -- a good editor would make this into a national bestseller.

The wow covers it. Now I just need to read it again. That's just how good it is. Buy it!

I loved the premise

I was given an Audible copy of this book for an honest review by the author. This was a tough one for me. I loved the premise: Meg, a girl who discovers she's a witch after a near tragic accident. She goes on a school exchange program to Scotland and discovers a whole family and society she never knew existed (including fae princes and all sorts of mythical creatures). But the story itself was a bit of a disappointment.

Meg, the main character, turns 18 just after the book opens. The author emphasizes she is 18 but in Grade 11. This timeline needed to be explained since most students in Grade 11 are 16 or 17 at most and since this is young adult novel, young readers are going to question this. Now maybe Meg was home schooled or held back ... but that should have been mentioned. Meg goes on an exchange to Scotland and (without giving away any spoilers) makes a decision about her future which is pretty unrealistic to a reader who is familar with youth today. While Meg is a strong character there are flaws in her development, which make the reader question her authenticity.

The story line has lots of adventure and romance but there were two issues I found that really pulled me right out of the story. The first was stylistic/grammatical.

perfectly imperfect

This has been one hell of a ride. From a shopping trip with her sister to the Apocalypse. I don't want to spoil the ending or give too much away, but all things considered I think this was the perfect ending to the series. bon voyage my fictional character friends you gave me several hours of entertainment.

BTW the narrator Kristin James really brought her A game to this book. I thought she sounded great on the first book (the 2nd book I read,so I don't know) but this final book was just wonderful. Kristin James is a narrator to search for!

Great ending

Without giving anything away, I loved the happy ending, didnt think it was going to happen. Loved the whole series, plenty of action with an underlying romance. The only negative was so many good people who died. I normally do not pay this much for a book but I was so hooked I had to buy it. Can definitely recommend.

One last laugh with Lana

Lana Harvey has led a full life. Limbo City Lights by Angela Roquet gives us a glimpse into the beginning, middle and end of my favorite soul reaper's life/afterlife. We get a brief introduction to Saul and Coreen while Gabriel's early interaction is on par with his later exploits. Some stories were a teaser and an obvious novella for the season. One particular story was written for the love of two strong female characters Jesse Sullivan, a death replacement agent and Lana Harver, seasoned soul reaper who interacted with more curiosity than the usual chaos.

I think it would be best if all the stories could be read in sequence. I should read all of the books again. My memory of the characters faltered, but was nudged by the contextual clues included in the collection. I'm happy to have one last laugh with Lana before getting submerged in a new world building adventure with Angela Roquet.

The end

I'm so sad to say goodbye to Lana. She has surprisingly become someone i adore and worry about (even if i KNOW she'll be ok). I reread the series all the time and am always finding new things to love and appreciate. She even helped me question myself and religion, to where I finally came to a difficult conclusion about Christianity and other religions. It was very helpful. And since we really don't know, I chose to believe the after life is going to be like this. Everyone's right, and we're recycled â

Goodbye Lana dear, thank you for helping me through leaving Christianity and my becoming an Agnostic Theist.

Great Addendum To The Lana Harvey Series!

This was a book of short stories which supplemented the Lana Harvey Reaper series. The stories in this book were good and varied.

Unfortunately, this is to be the last book in the Lana Harvey series. I am hoping that after a hiatus from writing this series, the author Angela Roquet will reconsider, perhaps with an annual Halloween (being the series involves a "Reaper", Halloween is rather a fitting time-frame =) for a book or short story--hint, hint.

The series is really a great read, and this book did not disappoint!! I just hope there will be more!!!!

I miss Lana & Bub already...

Thoroughly enjoyed the short stories. I like getting a glimpse into Lana's past. I took the time to read "Dying for a Living" by Kory M Shrum before reading 'Death or Something like it'. Though not necessary I'm glad I did. I think it was helpful to have the back story.

Now thanks to Angela I have a new book series to devour. I hope Lana might make a cameo in other books too.
