Entertaining
A fun book. Liked all the northern Nevada references! Made it easy to place myself in the book. Easy read.
Reno weatherman mystery
Mike Alger is a TV weatherman who wrote a mystery set in the Reno area. If you like lots of action, and want to know about behind the scenes in TV news, this is a good read.
Snow Storm
The book is very good and was well written. The condition of the book was also very good. I liked the story but it was slow reading at first.
A Good Action Adventure Story
Overall, this book was an interesting read and I learned a lot about weather forecasting and presentation on television in the process. I live in Mike Alger's broadcast zone, so I am familiar with his on-air style and was happy to see his sense of humor come through in this book. In places, the pacing could have been a little better. I found it unnecessary, and distracting, to write in his Australian character's phonetic pronunciation of words and also a little odd, since it was the only character that was handled this way. The story was intriguing and nicely plotted. The tale is told mostly through the main character's first person point of view, but also switches to other characters several times.
A Wild Ride
What a romp! Mike Alger has written a fun and fast paced novel with an extremely likeable central character. Greg O'Brien, local meteorologist extraordinaire, gets unwittingly pulled into the nasty web of a diabolical drug lord, and goes eyeball to eyeball with a quirky assassin as a result. Fortune shines on Mr. O'Brien however, as he is able to slip through the would-be killer's clutches time and again. While trying to stay alive, he's also trying to solve the riddle as to how he got into such a mess in the first place!
Snow Storm is well plotted, with interesting characters, and believable dialogue. Greg O'Brien, our reluctant hero, is a family man who loves his wife and adores his children. He doesn't swear, and he goes to church. How refreshing! We can't help but worry what's next for our humble meteorologist, but Greg does have some help, thank goodness.
This book is a wild ride from start to finish, and Mike Alger has done a terrific job. Let's hope he keeps writing, a Greg O'Brien series of books would be great!
