A must companion guide for this novel
This Instaread offers an analysis and summary of the Crash & Burn plot. The novel is a fast paced psychological thriller with many characters a lot of twists and turns, but this Instaread helped me to keep up with things. The novel beings with the main character, Nicky Frank, who is plagued with memories of a missing child named Vero but is unable to understand them because she has suffered brain trauma.
She is married to Thomas, a movie set designer. Nicky suffers a third brain injury after she crashes her car into a ravine. Afterwards, she discovers a picture of Vero among her husbandâs belongings. Things start moving quickly after that with the police investigation as well as an investigation by a private detective hired by Vero's mother.
I won't give out plot spoilers, but there's a big surprise ending. Get this Instaread if you want to keep things sort. This is an excellent guide to this book and whenever I come across an interesting new title like this, I always first check to see if Instaread has a summary of the book. The summary and analysis in this one is spot on. I highly recommend it.
    Satisfied!

    Revelations
    Night Fury: Second Act
    By: Belle Aurora
    5/5 stars
The second part of the three part serial is a book of revelations.
At the end of the first book, Cat found Marcoâs wallet and learned some vital information, and it was also information that made her feel used and develop a sense of anger and hatred towards Marco. We learn what that is.
The ânunsâ and âpriestâ still take part in missions; ridding the world of evil criminals, who are able to skate by the law, get off on technicalities or who havenât been reported to the authorities because of lack of evidence.
Things are still weird with Clark after bringing his girlfriend Michelle to dinner at the church for his birthday, kissing Cat and having her feel nothing when they kissed.
We see more of the boy, Tomas, who is Catâs age, and is super intelligent, but definitely has social disorders and other disorders, as he doesnât really speak. Cat has always wondered about him, worried about him and has tried to help him. That doesnât stop.
Cat also âhacksâ into the records at Mirage to learn more about herself.
I canât really go into detail about this book, since it is so short; it is too hard not giving any spoilers or giving away the plot.
    HOLY CRAP!! SO GOOD
OMG, there is no way to write a review about the book without giving too much away so this will be short. What a roller-coaster. This book will have you reeling, its shocker after shocker. I love Cat, I love that she is both strong and vulnerable. Her character is perfectly balanced between figuring out who is she is and knowing who she is not. Aurora does a great job of creating this world that is thrilling, dark, sinister and also emotional. There are aspects of love and family present in this story and of figuring out where you belong and where you came from. Cat is on a road to self-discovery that will change everything she thought she knew about herself and it is going to blow your mind. I cannot wait to get the next installment!!
    Wow
I am stunned by the last half of this book. Bell Aurora you have done it again. Poor Cat goes through a rollercoaster of emotions her world is literally falling a part around her so many secrets are uncovered. Yet so much still needs to be revealed. I can't say much without giving anything a way but no one in this book is who you think they are. Friendships are tested and bonds are broken what's Night Fury to do but fight back?
    LOVE!!!
    OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am in shock right now!!!!!
What is going on and how, what, and why?????
More secrets and lies. Aurora has caught my attention with this last book. Can't wait until the last act.
It just keeps getting better with each act. Aurora has kept my interest... which can be hard at times. The characters are flawed but very human.

    Publisher's Summary:
    Her secret life...
Beth Walsh seems like such a demure housewife. The young woman is someone you'd meet at a church social, the type to take care of her attorney husband or do volunteer work. But Beth has a secret life. While her husband works, Beth slides into what she calls her "slut clothes" and goes on the prowl. She becomes a completely different woman, wanton and uninhibited, with dozens of handsome strangers...until she meets the one blindingly gorgeous stranger who will make her more than sorry for her secrets and lies.
Abbott Lowery is every woman's dream: handsome and muscular, with intense blue eyes that contrast with his thick, black hair. Women want him. Men want him. But Abbott is deeply damaged, and inside lurks a monster just waiting to be released. When Beth Walsh pursues him, it pushes a deeply buried rage to the fore, and he becomes determined to punish her. Beth and Abbott 's meeting lights the fuse on a bomb. Its explosion leads to a tale of terror and desperation so intense, it will sear everyone who knows them. High Risk is a story of secrets, tainted histories, murder, and kidnapping. Its ending is so brutal and shocking that listeners will be left breathless.

    TOO DARK!!!
Story was way too dark for my tastes. It also was not plausible, none of it made sense. I never really understood what motivated any of the characters. The ending left me unsatisfied and confused.
I could tell that this author is a fine writer, he just missed the mark with this book.
The narrator had a clear, easy cadence which made the audiobook listenable. There were times though when I was not able to tell that the scene had changed because there was no pause or voice differenciation of characters throughout the book. Since I didn't have the text in front of me I count on the narrator to make me aware of these things!
This would make a great movie!
I liked this book. It is a murder and thriller, exciting and made me so angry! There is abuse, neglect, rape, adultery and bad life choices. A little boy grows to be a sadistic adult after seeing his mother raped. 11 years later, his mother commits suicide when no one believes her story. A shy young girl is gang raped at a fraternity party. Later, successfully married, she has sex with anyone that looks at her. These two lost souls come together in nightmarish events.
The only weakness in the story is that it skips around some, but other than that I am glad that I listened to the story.
NOT For This Listener-Dark, Violent & Disturbing
What did you like best about High Risk? What did you like least?
    -
Beth has a perfect life, she is married to a well respected lawyer. She serves on committees and looks the part. We soon learn that she has a very dark side to her proper one. She plans trysts with men. Not just A man, looking for a mistress but men who live on the edge. She wants men that disrespecting her as well as themselves. And she loves it.
One day a chance encounter brings her to meet Abbott. He is handsome, beautiful, a strong, alpha male (all of the usual clichés.) However he does not act like the rest of her suitors. When she finds that her husband is on his way home Abbott is in no hurry to leave making Beth sweat before disappearing at the last second.
Abbott is everything vile, reprehensible, disgusting, and twisted that one could imagine.

    Magnificent Audio Book
Would you listen to Awakening again? Why?
Yes, I would listen to Awakening again. It is a riveting story that invites suspense and insight. The narrator does an amazing job leading us into the story while entertaining with his amazing character development.
What did you like best about this story?
I liked listening to the narrator, Paul E. Garner the best. His voice is captivating!
What does Paul E. Garner bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
    High entertainment value.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    Yes
    Any additional comments?
R.N. Kuili and Paul E. Garner make a powerful literary team!
    Corporate Lord of the Flies.
This was definitely an interesting one. It resembles Lord of the Flies in some ways, although it's a drama rather than a thriller, and it's adults on a corporate retreat rather than children on an island. It's oddly philosophical, and shows a great deal of depth. Unfortunately, that depth gets convoluted with the multiple pov switches, and backstory on too many characters.
The characters that it does focus on, I felt were solid. They had their motives, wildly different personalities, and varied backstories. Had it been focused on one or two characters, I think it would have been easier to follow and added a bit more mystery to it. Still solid characters and story. The only other complaint that I had about the characters were that the females felt like throwaway characters, instead of fleshed out, necessary ones. They felt more obligatory than anything.
There is a bit of mystery in this story, and it's a decent plot, I enjoyed it, but it really is more of a drama about manipulation and societal power. Fluid prose is backed up by easygoing dialog that feels natural if at times unnecessary. I enjoyed the narration and the plot pacing, and I truly believe that this author has a long career ahead of him. With the talent and potential shown in this book, I cannot wait to see what he can do now with a few more years of experience.
    Misleading synopsis
This is the first time that I have listened to a book by this author and it will definitely be the last! I persevered because I thought it must have a killer twist somewhere but sadly not. I found the synopsis very misleading and the story boring to say the least. Unfortunately, the story wasn't improved by the narrator's monotonous voice.

    Publisher's Summary:
In master storyteller Andrew Kaplan's action-packed thriller, the CIA sends its top agent to Southeast Asia to stop a war that threatens to be even bloodier than the conflict in Vietnam.
The photograph in the CIA vault shows four men relaxing in the jungle, green berets draped over their rifles, enjoying a break from combat. On the day after the picture was taken, their friendship was torn apart forever. Now, 10 years after the United States pulled out of Vietnam, the CIA has sent one of the men, Parker, to Thailand to track a troop's movement across the Cambodian border, which is about to explode, luring the Americans back into another disastrous ground war.
When Parker disappears the CIA deploys its best agent--Parker's former friend, Sawyer--in a secret operation, code named Dragonfire, to rescue Parker and prevent the war. But in the forbidden jungles of the Golden Triangle, a mysterious Asian beauty will lead Sawyer into a strange and savage world of opium traders, warlords, and militant factions, where nothing is as it seems and the only certainty is death.
    Members Reviews:
A powerful tale of Southeast Asia.
This story starts off with a picture of army buddies in Vietnam circa 1970, âdeath friendsâ as the hill tribes would call them, and as it develops a prophetic tag if ever there was one. Fifteen years later, the middleman of the picture, Jack Sawyer, now a one-eyed CIA operative, is sent in after his army buddy Agent Parker who goes missing on a top secret mission to prevent a second Vietnam war over North Vietnamâs invasion of U.S. ally Thailand. I was amazed by how nothing was what it seemed or what Sawyer was told, or even what his CIA handler thinks. Itâs probably a stretch that the U.S. government would be willing to make a deal with Cambodian rebels to trade arms and gold for their morphine, and have them fight their war for them. But, since the language and the settings seem so real, from expatriate U.S. solders, jaded English and American diplomats, Cambodian rebels and drug dealers, even Buddhist monks, one wonders if the author doesnât have an inside track on what really went down. I mean, the Vietnamese General Lu, also in the earlier picture as an advisor, says they wouldnât invade if they got diplomatic recognition, which Clinton gave them in 1995. All together a riveting and powerful tale of Southeast Asia.
    Worth reading
I was slightly disappointed with this book. The storyline was good, but the writing was a little sloppy. I did enjoy the story.
    Five Stars
    Know the author
Kaplan hits home with Vietnam novel.
This is my second Andrew Kaplan novel. I was interested in how he would treat the Vietnam war and got a head full of it. Andrew can penetrate your outer defenses with brutal depiction of events until you are worn, tired, disheveled, and soaked to the skin along with his protagonist. This novel is the story of a CIA agent trying to find a missing CIA agent in Cambodia with the Vietnamese and Khmer Rouge closing in from two sides. It reminds me that the Americans will never understand the Oriental mind and that Asia, for the European and American cultures, is an abyss that swallows up time, talent, capital and lives with abandon. Andrew takes you along on the journey. If you like this genre, you'll be engaged from beginning to end. Great read.

Could have been a good story...
What would have made Higher Cause better?
The narrator, seemed to be trying to read every letter in every word.
Very little in "Feeling" in reading. Seemed like my 12 year old grandchild reading one of his history books. Saying the words without understanding the meaning or defining the character of the cast.
The narrator, should listen to other narrators like Dick Hill, and draw from those readings
how to create characters in sound, and bring emotions into the reading of the stories.
Has Higher Cause turned you off from other books in this genre?
    No
What didnt you like about Jacob Littles performance?
    Flat..... no emotion.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointed that a possibly good story, became less than mediocre.
    Any additional comments?
    No
Thrilling read - great for anarchists!!!
I loved Higher Cause. The idea of a libertarian island with its own laws and economic freedom, mixed with thrillers of evil people trying to stop them, and a treasure hunt based off of real historical events - very captivating!
