    Great premise but convoluted
What did you like best about The Shuttered Room? What did you like least?
The idea of a young female hostage who has a screw loose sounded so interesting and this book may have been better read than heard though the narrator was wonderful even if some voices were grating. Sadly in the end, I just wanted the book to end.
This kidnap victim has a secret!
Jessica has made an escape attempt and it fell short. Jake managed to catch her in the orchard and haul her back to the house. There, Jake and his two fellow kidnappers (Justin and Kia) keep Jess for several weeks as they demand a sizable ransom from her rich parents. As Jess languishes in this attic room, the reader becomes privy to her life, both present and past. But soon the stress of the situation brings about a condition that has laid dormant for years and this slightly unhinges Jess, making her bold enough to try a few things she might not otherwise have done.
Early on, we learn that Jess as a kid believed she could see things living inside people and that those things (often weird, distended frogs) partially controlled the human they inhabited. Jess could hear their inner voice. Of course, she often spoke whatever that inner voice was saying and eventually it drew enough attention that she had to see a psychologist and was put on medication. Essentially, she became a bit of an outcast and I can see how that childhood experience shaped the adult Jess.
She marries, eventually, an older man who already has two daughters by his ex-wife and he doesnt want any more children. At first, Jess is OK with this but eventually the longing to have a child becomes too much and she seeks ways to become pregnant by Henry. If youve read the description of the book, then you know if she was successful or not. Whether she was or not, you can easily see how her relationship with her husband became strained over the years. So by the time she is kidnapped, her life is rather messy anyway.
About half way through the novel, Jess finds a peep hole in the attic floor and spying on the goings-on below becomes her chief past time. She does gain some knowledge about her captors that she then uses in subtle ways. Sometimes, Jess uses this knowledge in a calculated manner. Sometimes it is hit or miss. After all, she hasnt been kidnapped before and, in general with the exception of her husband, she doesnt go around manipulating people.

    Great story, wrong narrator
I love the Nadia Wolf series, all 5 star stories! I was shocked to hear the narrator for this series when I listened to this Audiobook. The strong British accent is a horrible choice for this very American story. The words are clipped and flat, not at all smooth and easy like the writing. Both the story and the narrator are good separately, but there is nothing complimentary about putting them together. I'd have to recommend reading this series instead of listening to it.

    Appalling narration
What did you like best about Unwanted? What did you like least?
Whilst the story itself was pretty good, I really did not like the narrator. Whilst her narrative in her own voice was normal and easy to listen to, nearly every character was read in a dreadful slow drawl or growl which soon grew really irritating. Only the interest of the story kept me going. I will certain avoid anything narrated by Maggie Mash in future as she so nearly completely ruined a decent story.
    Narrator
The narrator, Maggie Marsh, spoiled the story as she was very OTT, deliberately very breathless and hesitant and, in my opinion, didn't make the best of the characters. Very disappointing ending. The story was dragged out in places but had an abrupt ending that in part, didn't make sense. Not sure that I would listen to another of the author's books especially if with lthe same narrator
Maggie Mash is is a brilliant narrator!
The book itself, though not long, is a brilliant start to a series. I definitely recommend!
    the narrator
Would you listen to Unwanted again? Why?
I love my scandanavian crime books and I was really looking forward to listening to this new author (to me) but the woman who is narrating the book is extremely irritating therefore it is making it really difficult for me to listen to unfortunately.
How could the performance have been better?
A new narrator would be excellent
    Narrators
Would you listen to Unwanted again? Why?
The story, although I'm only halfway thro' the book is really holding my attention but I'm finding the narrator's voice harsh, abrasive and unrealistic. This does occasionally happen but the voice usually softens, probably as the narrator settles down. This hasn't happened however. I will persist as the story is gripping but I won't have another of Kristina Ohlsson's books with this narrator.
What did you like best about this story?
Fast moving although evil, good escapism. Haven't finished it yet.
What didnt you like about Maggie Mashs performance?
    Harsh voice, abrasive, not realistic.
Do not want to be mean.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Uncomfortable at times but that's the nature of the genre.
    Any additional comments?
    All said.

Two unhappily married Cuban-Americans fall in love
After reading all of the rave reviews on Amazon I expected more. Due Diligence is basically an adulterous love story with a lot of helter-skelter espionage, violence and intrigue thrown into the mix. Narration is adequate.

At first, Allen and her colleagues are suspicious. After all, their new ally shares some uncomfortable similarities to the man they're tracking. Members Reviews:
Not as good as the first book but still a good listen
Story ok but lacked the pace of his first book.
    Brilliantly read again.
    Overall a good listen
Gripping, Mason Cross delivers another page turner
Would you consider the audio edition of The Samaritan to be better than the print version?
I have only listened to the audio version. It's first class, a great story and well told.
What other book might you compare The Samaritan to, and why?
For pace and story line on the main character, it sits well with the Carter Blake series. Not one of these books fails to deliver.
What does Eric Meyers bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you had only read the book?
In reading we lend the characters our voice, we imagine how they speak, speed, delivery etc. This experience tells us a story, invites us in and we are swept up in the telling of it, at the narrator's pace.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    Absolutely. It is compelling listening.
    Any additional comments?
Mason Cross consistently delivers excellent stand alone tales while weaving the more intricate back stories of the main character.

    Publisher's Summary:
When a man is brutally beaten to death outside a Houston strip club, young paramedic Nathan Kleinman is drawn into the maelstrom of events that lie in the wake of the Hunter's actions. The Hunter, a man who kills without weapons, relying only on his hands and feet, testing his personal strength and skill as a predator, is in the final stages of his psychosis. His delusions are starting to override his conscious control as his mind and personality fragment. Three young women, Deirdre, Michelle, and Holly, all of whom are involved with Nathan to a greater or lesser degree, are caught in a snare of The Hunter's design. It is a trap calculated to bring the best trophy of all, Nathan himself, into a final position where the Hunter can place Nathan's head on his wall. As The Hunter manipulates events around him, Nathan is forced to confront his own past, and his strong feelings about the three women, choosing amongst them. In the end, those emotions are exploited by The Hunter as he strives to bring down his prey. Set in present-day Houston, Texas, Hunter and Hunted is a sometimes erotic, sometimes chillingly direct and brutal story about the principles and values by which we live our lives, and how changes to those principles and values can be forced upon us.

One of the worst narrators ever.
I really wanted to like this book. Really. It got good reviews on Amazon but after listening for a couple of hours I just can't continue. That narrator is extremely irritating to listen to. He must think this is a Mickey Spillane novel and he just learning to read. Much too melodramatic or very flat and monotone with very poor character imitations. All the female roles sound like bored drag queens. This did not come across when I listened to the sample. I think I'll try the hardcover instead. In all fairness I'm going to give the story more stars because the story does sound intriguing and made me want to read the physical book.

    Hmmm
Seriously. Has the author ever been camping? He's a good storyteller but there's so many mistakes that it distracts from the story. For example, he asks what kind of camp stove gets hot enough to fry green tomatoes? He also mentions insulin as one if the drugs in their cache which without refrigeration is useless. And where is our world class military? We are invaded by a handful of dark skinned religious people? Huh?
    Painful
Made it 10 minutes into the book, I'll be calling audible for refund in the next hour The reader sounds like a 12-year-old kid talking to his buddies in a park. Unbelievable that anybody would let him read an entire book and then expect somebody to listen to it.
