    awesome adventure!
fun story line and love the bantering between tanner and Samantha. an awesome adventure. hope to see the story continue
    Great Story and story telling!
Loved the story and the narration but my only problem with this book was that it was very short compared to the previous books.
    Love the series!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
yes. This series is very well written. My family and I are looking forward to book nine!
    Outstanding
Looking forward to book 9 and more to come in the series. good job Dr
Raines dont trust him as far as he can throw him
We find Deputy Marshal Raines and his team scavenging supplies for survivors. Delivering these supplies to an outpost known as The Farm, Raines uncovers some horrific details regarding the food the camp has been serving to the colonists. The leader of the compound, Locke pleads his case to Raines and asks him to join forces in an effort to prevent future problems, train his rag-tag forces, and continue to retrieve supplies as he had been doing. Raines cannot abide what is going on within the compound and must refuse the offer. Locke is way too accommodating and Raines doesnt trust him as far as he can throw him. Tanner and Samantha are up to their ears in trouble following up on another of Sams ideas, this one involving cats and witches. Once that detour is taken care of they continue their mission to recon the local nuclear facility. They rescue the operators that were left to care for the facility and were being held captive by a militia group bent on doing dastardly deeds. Meanwhile Issa heads back to Mount Weather to tell her peers about her pregnancy. Issa believes this news will brighten their outlook and bring hope back into their lives. This has been a great story with lots of action, great characters; well-developed and very likable. The narrator, John Farrell, has done a great job throughout the series. Did I say it was great?

    Unique!
This is a hard book to review because to be honest, I'm still not entirely sure what my thoughts are about it!!! Plus, the things I didn't really like about it are all spoilers so I'm going to have to try and say what I want without really saying what I want!!
Character wise, for most of the book we only have Amo. He seems to be the only survivour of a "zombie" apocalypse. Now, he figures that the reason he survived was his illness. I'm not really sure what his illness was, just saying ;) OK, so his illness saved him and he is alone amoung millions of "Zombies". He seems to have everything easy though, plenty of food, passage between buildings etc. He is like this for months when he finally thinks that there must be other survivours. Surely he isn't the only one? So he decides to go on a road trip, all the while documenting his journey so he can show other survivours where he is.
Meanwhile, a girl Amo liked, just happens to survive as well. (How she survived was ridiculous BTW) She doesn't know that Amo is alive and spends months on her own too. She finally finds evidence of him and takes off after him.
I didn't particularly like either of the characters. Amo was OK, at times he was a normal person just trying to survive but other times he seemed to transform into some do gooder and it really didn't work.
Plot wise, while there was some really unique and quirky things to like about this, I found the reason the "zombies" came to be totally and utterly ridiculous!! How in the world could it possibly happen that way, and so bloody quickly?? And if it did happen that way, why was the place nearly deserted when Amo went outside? I liked the fresh take on "Zombies" but there is certain thing they do to a certain someone that made no sense really. If they are unique, and they tasted something for the first time, it would stand to reason they might develop a taste for it, would they not??? Maybe in future books they would, but I don't know. Also, the book dragged a lot at times. I don't think the author needed to go into half the things he did! Finally, the thing that really annoyed me was the change in voice, most of the time it's written in first person for Amo, but suddenly it would change to something else and someone else's POV, with no warning, and would leave me wondering if I was listening to something else!
In all, this wasn't really for me.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I really didn't enjoy this one, so no... I couldn't recommend it. But that doesn't mean others won't enjoy it.
What could Jake Bible have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
I don't know. If I was on acid, it might make more sense to me, but I just couldn't follow the story line. And there was too much "Foe 'n Crud" in the dialogue. The Faux 'n Crud just kept coming, and I thought "If I hear that guy say Foe 'n Crud one more Fauxing time I'm going to stop listening to this Faux 'n Crud and do something productive.
Have you listened to any of Andrew B. Wehrlens other performances before? How does this one compare?
I haven't listened to any of his other work, but Andrew has a great voice, and a great delivery style. Unfortunately the dialogue he was tasked with delivering just didn't click with me.
Was Salvage Merc One: The Daedalus System worth the listening time?
I tried. I tried three times actually. But I never managed to finish it. So No... for me it was not.
    Was just plain stupid.
The First book in this series was ok so I decided this one was worth a try.Big mistake. The story was all over the place . The main character turned into an idiot. The only saving grace was Joe's assistant also the narrator was good.
one of the worse audible book avaiable
Would you try another book from Jake Bible and/or Andrew B. Wehrlen?
I would like to say yes but this book has been so bad that Im not sure...
What was most disappointing about Jake Bibles story?
The entire story is SOOO horrible!
Talking trees, talking doors.Ancient Greek myths ...Im not making this up.
This book just killed what could have been a great new series ....
    Which scene was your favorite?
    none
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Salvage Merc One: The Daedalus System?
I would start with paper shreader and then informed the author to get a real story and return any advance payment back to us..I mean a Talking DOOR!!!
    Any additional comments?
Please do not waste the time you have left in this life to become dumber person from reading this cash grab of a so called "book"...It is really that bad..
    That Fell Apart
    Loved this book
    Any additional comments?
I really hope the author will write more about Merc One's adventures.

Beyond the Exclusion Wall lies the Outzone, a lawless territory ceded from federal jurisdiction. Brogan never thought he would go there. He was wrong.

How soon can I expect book 2?
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
this is a great dystopian based novel without zombies or plague and a ton of excitement. Riveting story line that you do not want to stop listening, even if it is 4am
Have you listened to any of Kevin Pierces other performances before? How does this one compare?
I would buy more software if they guaranteed that Kevin Pierce was reading the software purchase agreement. He could make a listing of toilet manufacturing companies sound interesting.
    Any additional comments?
You will have no regrets if you buy this book.
    Mixed bag
Would you be willing to try another book from Mike Sheridan? Why or why not?
Yes. This book was good enough to continue with the series
    Any additional comments?
I could have done without the farming stuff. It sort of broke up the flow. The beat down scene with Brogan was intense. Kevin as always did an excellent job narrating.
    HBO series quality
Would you listen to Winter's Edge again? Why?
Most definitely. I have listened to many post apocalypse novels and have really enjoyed the ingenuity and creativity of most of the writers. However this one has a story line that really sticks out. Its character development isn't any better than others I've listened too but the story line has you hanging on and wanting more. I really think this one could easily be an HBO series.
What did you like best about this story?
I think what I liked best and is so frustrating, is that I really can't wait for the next one to come out. I have felt that way about others but this saga of novelty and excitement creates an appetite that is hard to just set on the shelf till the author decides to come out with the next volume.
Have you listened to any of Kevin Pierces other performances before? How does this one compare?
Kevin Pierce is the standard. He never lets you down
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    I almost did.
    I Thoroughly Enjoyed This Audiobook
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely. This is a well written story, with a great narrator.

And even those whose lives have not yet been substantially touched by the war now find themselves in the midst of a living hell as Russia and the US continue to raise the stakes, wiping more and more cities off the face of the globe forever.

    Turtledove has done better.
The Soviet Union built their first nuke in 1949. They now (1952) have an inexhaustible supply. No explanation given.
US forces keep falling for the same tricks time and again. IFF codes are changed, but the USSR always has the current ones. No explanation given.
The USA still only is using B-29 bombers, in spite of the existence of the B-32, B-36, B-50 and now the B-47. No explanation given.
    needs better pauses
    Any additional comments?
I would like to see a little more of a pause between sections. Sometimes the narrator goes from one section to another, changing setting and characters, with hardly an intake of breath to indicate the change. It can be a little confusing.
great but too short! love narrator especially
WTF the first booj took me like 3 weeks to finish this was like a week. love narrator
    Amazing
Turtledove is the best and Audible enhances any read. I highly recommend both to anyone
    turtledove is great
turtledove writes well, the charter development is very strong. Look at both sides gives a different perspective on conflict. he builds his charters with great care. I've noticed that all of the serries have a woman on each side of the conflict. there are a few other details that run through his stories.

    Publisher's Summary:
A new novel in the popular and exciting science fiction Liaden Universe series. Over a half million Liaden Universe books sold with an audience that keeps growing!
Beset by the angry remnants of the Department of the Interior, challenged at every turn by opportunists on their new homeworld of Surebleak, and somewhat low on funds, Clan Korval desperately needs to reestablish its position as one of the top trading clans in known space. To this end, Master Trader Shan yos'Galan, aboard Korval's premier trade ship, Dutiful Passage, is on a mission to establish new business associations and to build a strong primary route that links well with existing Loops and secondary routes.
But reestablishing trade and preserving the lives of the few remaining members of the clan aren't all of Korval's problems. Matters come to a head as Dutiful Passage, accustomed to being welcomed and feted at those ports on its call list, finds itself denied docking and blacklisted while agents of the DOI mount armed attacks on others of Korval's traders under the very eyes of port security systems.
Traveling with Dutiful Passage on this unsettling journey is Padi yos'Galan, the master trader's heir and his apprentice. Padi is eager to make up for time lost due to Korval's unpleasantness with the Department of the Interior. She is also keeping a secret so intense that her coming of age, and perhaps her very life, is threatened by it.

The Story Progresses, but the narrator...
This is #19 in the wonderful Liaden Universe, and #2 in the current Arc of Covenants story arc. In this book there are four separate story lines moving forward: Daav/Alliana, Hazenthull/Tolly Jones/Tocohl, and Padi/Shan, all making good progress, and when the book finished I wanted more, but didn't feel like I was dropped off the edge of a cliff. I love this series, and you really can start it anywhere, so just jump in. The authors do a good job of giving you enough back story to be able to enjoy this book even if you haven't read earlier ones, while not annoying those of us who have been here since the very beginning.
The narrator for this book is Kevin T. Collins. And, sadly, he is not my favourite by a substantial margin. However, if you set the speed at 1.25% it's perfectly acceptable and doesn't annoy. The pacing is better in this book (at that 1.25% speed!), and he does a good job of providing a break when the focus shifts to a new story line.
Overall, highly recommended, even though I could wish for a different narrator. And I look forward to the next book where we should find out what's happening with Theo & Bechimo.
    Good Story, narration still painful
I have greatly enjoyed all of the Liaden series books. However the Arc of the Covenants series read by Kevin T Collins are painful to listen to since all the Liaden characters have all been given BAD British accents, where they didn't exist before. Don't now if it was reader's choice or director's choice but it was a bad decision. It was and still is, actually painful to have the characters qualities slaughtered by the narration.

    absolute gem
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
yes. this being a debut collection sometimes you are unsure...but do not be unsure of this one. great story telling through and through.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Nameless Dark?
    the whole thing is great
What does Armen Taylor bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
some of the pacing is ever so slightly off putting but he is capable and does always bring you back.
    Any additional comments?
    get this. get it now.
Some truely gruesome stories! Does Lovecraft proud
And some are kind of meh, but definetly not bad just seem to be not fully developed where theyre heavy in the development of character surrounding relationships etc but then once the climax of the story is underway it gets glossed over. That being said there were only 2 and were still very worth while listen.
That being said there are also some hellishly monstorious stories that would make Lovecraft shudder perhaps, tho i prefer classic horror being that in some stories the eluding to the kids mom smoking meth being a whore her boyfriends package waving around under his boxers and shit like that just repels me back to the prosaic and vulgar.
That being said i dont want to say anything about the context of the stories and ruin them, but if your a fan lovecraft of clarck ashton smith or the horror stories of robert e howard youll love this just an absolute must listen.
Also it must be said the narrator does a great job in this.
    The Nameless Dark
This is possibly the best collection I've read all year. The audio book version is phenomenal. The narrator does a wonderful job providing multiple voices to fit each character. The highlight for me was Mr. Lupus. The voices were believable and well-acted. I can't give enough stars for The Nameless Dark. I would highly recommend it to anyone enamoured with the darker side life. Other stories include the haunting, Transmission, the incredibly sad Tubby's Big Swim, and so many more. If I could suggest one audio book this year, it would be this one, without a doubt.
    mehh
I wasn't impressed. Struggled to finish. narration was okay, not a book I would recommend.
A Unique Collection of Dark Fiction
This is a strong audio collection of horror stories, highlighting the talents of one of the strongest new voices in the genre. Grau pulls you into his stories, giving you the creeps as you try to guess where he's going, and then shocking or surprising you and taking you into the unexpected. His characters touch on the damaged, the broken, and the damned. These are people on the fringe, experiencing cosmic horror (without falling into the tropes of Lovecraftian pastiche) and horrified wonder.

    DEADERS
Tourists are idiots, liberals are idiots, everybody is an idiot except the know it all main character. He is a prepper and like most preppers, he is a god. It is too weird to call Zombies, Zombies, but it is great to call them DEADERS. l did not make it to the aliens, I didn't care for the main character.
The narrator is different, listen to sample.
    Hmmmm.
I honestly don't really know what to say about this. It's pretty short and is a prequel (I think) to the series. Maybe I should have red book 2 first because this was sorta weird! This focuses on Aidan Sullivan. He was alone when the initial outbreak took place so didn't know about it. Now what bothered me about this bit was Aidan somehow got pneumonia and that's the explanation on why he was out of it for 2 weeks. It's easy happen of course, but felt a little too convenient.
Plus the whole way through, he said he was called Sully, then at the very end he said he was called Scratch. I know he evolved as a character, but at no other time did he mention Scratch!! I'm still scratching my head too on where the Aliens came from?? One second he is killing Zombies but then this thing comes and he is battling Aliens!!
In all, I just felt like I missed a lot of the plot and I didn't really connect to any of the characters. I might continue on with the series but I'm not sure yet. It just didn't grab me.
S.W. Salzman was really good, though I did feel that some of the sound effects were unnecessary. If you are doing sound effects, you either do it throughout or not at all, not throw them in every so often!! Other than that. I thoroughly enjoyed his performance as he had plenty of tones and voices and read it well.
I was voluntarily provided this audiobook for free from the author, narrator, or publisher. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.
This is not your average zombie apocalypse
I read the Scratch Sullivan episodes 1-4 quite a while ago so I was excited to see Invasion which is Scratch starting at day one. The zombie getting the jump on him from the beginning is exactly how it would feel if we were to ever have a zombie apocalypse. They've seen George Romero films in this world but still you're not just going to shoot someone in the head because they look odd, even if you do live in Texas.
Although I do not really remember the beginning of the episodes, I wish I would have started with this one. The episodes took me a lot to get into and the narrators drawl was driving me crazy. Now, I find it synonymous with who Scratch is and I couldn't wait to start this up!
Invasion is only 199 pages so it is a great beginning book. I have to admit to being thrilled from the beginning all the way through to the end. There's just something about this one that the episodes could not do.

    Publisher's Summary:
A sequel to Sir Arthur C. Clarke's Nebula Award-winning novella A Meeting with Medusa, this novel is a continuation of the thrilling adventure of astronaut Howard Falcon, humanity's first explorer of Jupiter, from two modern science fiction masters.
Howard Falcon almost lost his life in an accident as the first human astronaut to explore the atmosphere of Jupiter - and a combination of human ingenuity and technical expertise brought him back. But he is no longer himself. Instead he has been changed into an augmented human: part man, part machine, and exceptionally capable.
With permission from the Clarke estate, Stephen Baxter and Alastair Reynolds continue this beloved writer's enduring vision and have created a fresh story for new listeners. The Medusa Chronicles charts Falcon's journey through the centuries granted by his new body but always goes back to the mysteries of Jupiter and the changing interaction between humanity and the universe. A compelling listen full of incredible action right from the beginning, this is a modern classic in the spirit of 2001 and The Martian.

Almost stopped listening. Glad I didn't.
At about 5 chapters in, I was seriously considering stopping. I couldn't believe this was written by Reynolds, it was so slow and clumsy.
However, I stuck with it, and am glad I did. In there end this book is as mind expanding as any of his other books.
    A brilliant and spanning story
this is one of my favorite science fiction novels to date. a wonderful collaboration, of writers and a stunning narrative performance.
    Oh my god
This book has some incredible plot twists that really took me by surprise - and I've read many of Alastair's books.
    Great novel, Distracting narration
That, or the novel was more British than I was ready for. Narrators voice was OK, but the female personalities need more practice. I hate to say it but the women sounded like Mr. Garrison on South Park.
    Should have read it instead
An interesting story that took awhile to grip me but when it did, I was hooked. Unfortunately, the narration is distracting: this actor has a lovely voice, but he cannot do American accents to save his life. And there are a lot of American characters in this novel!
