Pat Healy plays the patriarchal character in IFC Midnight's WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING, which I wrote and executive produced. Healy is one of the coolest damn actors working today. You've probably seen him in CHEAP THRILLS and THE INNKEEPERS, among so many other titles. Julianne Moore told him to suck her dick in MAGNOLIA. He was also in GHOST WORLD for crying out loud. It's Pat Healy, baby!
He's currently shooting KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON with Martin Scorsese, but he was kind enough to chat with me for about an hour on one of his off days to help promote our little indie horror movie about a family stuck in a bathroom.
On today's episode of GHOULISH, we're talking about Horror Movie Dads.

Sean King O'Grady is the director of WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING, a new horror movie from IFC Midnight about a family trapped in their bathroom following the aftermath of a freaky tornado. It stars Pat Healy, Vinessa Shaw, Sierra McCormick, Lisette Alexis, and John James Cronin. I wrote the screenplay. The movie is officially out today in the US (September 3rd) in limited theaters and video-on-demand.

Kea Wilson (author of We Eat Our Own) has given more thought into cannibal movies than perhaps anybody else on the planet, which is why she was the perfect guest for tonight's episode of GHOULISH. Before we talked, I was on the fence about potentially eating another human being. Now? Well, you're going to have to listen and find out.

To celebrate the upcoming release of its film adaptation, I thought it would be fun to upload the audiobook of WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING in its entirety on the podcast. The audiobook is performed by Linda Jones.

David James Keaton (author of She Was Found in a Guitar Case) became obsessed with missing women after spending far too much time captioning crime shows, which he exorcised into his latest 500-page mystery novel about a fictional Dave Keaton reacting badly to some unfortunate news about his (totally fictional) wife. In today's GHOULISH, we get into all of that, including the roadside crosses phenomenon, performative reactions to death, talking about murder in diners, whether or not rats dream, and why Christopher Nolan is a masochist. Also, what are 7-Elevens? Do you know? Do you REALLY know?

Chandler Morrison (author of Human-Shaped Fiends) has a lot to say about what it means to have an author brand, and how he handles certain expectations from his audience. Which is why this episode of GHOULISH is about author brands. It doesn't get any more complicated than that. That's why folks love this podcast. You know what you're getting into. You see an episode called "author brands" and you download it, safely assured you will be listening to an episode about that topic. There are no tricks here. That's why we are number one. You hear that, Inkheist? You hear that, This is Horror? Eat our entire butts, fellas. Eat them.

In the 100th episode of GHOULISH, Max Booth III is murdered with a poisoned egg—potentially by a previous guest of the podcast. Andrew Hilbert takes over hosting duties and investigates the crime by analyzing over 30 eulogies sent in following the news of Max's death. Did one of these psychotic sons of bitches kill him? Listen and find out.

Chuck Tingle (author of Straight) has explored the infinite timelines of reality, which made him the perfect guest for this episode of GHOULISH. In addition to timelines, we also discussed unpopular Stephen King novels, Jordan Peele movies, and kinda just analyzed the entire horror genre. Get a notebook and pen ready, because you're going to want to take notes. This is an essential conversation for anybody curious about horror.
