Kathe Koja has made a career out of embracing immersive fiction. Her new novel, Dark Factory, is perhaps her greatest achievement with the concept. On today's GHOULISH, we talked at length about immersive fiction, Dark Factory, indie publishing, and why creativity should be fun.

"YOU WILL HEAR HER VOICE WHEN YOU TRY TO SLEEP"
Ten years ago, Dee Bolan and her wife Sharon experienced something terrifying and extraordinary while exploring abandoned ruins on Bombay Beach. We created this podcast to investigate the rumors, lore, and mystery surrounding the Salton Sea. This is Slab City Skies.

Adam Franti joined me on the latest episode of GHOULISH to discuss tommyknockers (not the Stephen King novel), old mining towns, mountaintop removal, and why driving through West Virginia is never a good idea. His story "Funeral" was published in our latest anthology, LOST CONTACT, and is available now.

Rebecca Jones-Howe's short story "Modern Ruins" is included in my latest anthology, LOST CONTACT, so obviously I had to get her on GHOULISH to discuss dead & dying shopping malls, urban explorers on YouTube, and why teenagers are terrifying.

Joshua Chaplinsky wrote a short story about the flying rod technological phenomenon called "The Protopterygote Tapes" and I published it in my new anthology, LOST CONTACT. On today's episode of GHOULISH, we got together to discuss flying rods, why the internet killed conspiracy theories, and why sometimes you shouldn't give up just because an editor rejects your story (seriously, do not mimic what Josh talks about doing in this episode).

Hailey Piper (author of Queen of Teeth) returned to GHOULISH to celebrate her story "Life Begins at Injection" which was published in my new anthology, Lost Contact. In today's episode, we discuss body horror, women in transformation, cruel ways the police utilize noise to attack protesters, and why more horror authors need to start writing about vagina dentata.

Dan Rebert is a practical effects genius known for his work on SLITHER, SIX FEET UNDER, and countless other movies and television shows. Recently, he worked on WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING, which I wrote and executive produced, so naturally I invited him on this week's episode of GHOULISH to discuss practical monster movie effects. This is the first VIDEO episode of the show, as Rebert came to the interview prepared to show off lots of cool props from the movie. He was also kind enough to share test footage he shot during pre-production, which I've edited into the episode throughout our discussion.
