Kelly and David find several ways to celebrate self-ishness on this day of the Solstice.  Although Daisy may argue this, the duo beige that the best adventures are the ones unscripted.  And, on-cue, the universe delivered for Kelly and David as they arrived at their destination.  And, as fate would have it, poor Daisy was the big winner of the day.  Then, it was time for a pagan tradition, swimming sans clothes in the ocean.  An unexpected honor and gift from some dedicated kite flyers was welcomed and appreciated. Our bees are growing in numbers and these ladies showed their stripes with pride!  What a day!  

On this day dedicated to leadership, Kelly and David dig a little at what a "father" is.  Of course, siring a child is only a small part of the process, being a great leader, teacher and supporter of your child is the main role.  And, if you are good at it, it transcends down the line.  David shares his wonderful day filled of great opportunities to exercise his fatherly leadership as well as some unexpected twists and turns that has endeared him to Kelly's family.  Daisy makes a guest appearance in today's episode.  

Kelly and David dig deep, both from their pockets but also in philosophy at a recent charity event.  Gratitude is flying everywhere today despite it being a day early in Kiteland.  Kelly recounts their experience at the Hearts and Minds Adult Day Center's Gala fundraiser.  David contradicts his warning in the gift of the day for his homework.  Have you ever invested in the future of someone you've never met and won't likely ever meet?  If so, you know that feeling, if not, get off your ass and take that wallet out.  

Cheech and Chong couldn't have done it better themselves.  After a long day of intellectual stimulation and solving challenging global issues, Kelly and David decided to accept the hospitality of the Walden Monterey folks.  No strangers to wine and charcuterie, the duo were taken aback by a tin of marijuana dummies being offered as well.  Rookies, they dove in early and they kicked in while still at the event.  This podcast is a journey with these two dorks as they were affected by the weed.  And, as you will hear, most things were just hilarious.... to them.  *Recommendation, to get the most out of this episode, perhaps partake prior.  

Kelly and David discuss the idea of exploring with curiosity what is out there to assist humanity and the planet.  Walden Monterey called the pair to a retreat discussing the benefits of psychedelics in maintaining and improving mental health.  In the process, they learned much more and were put to task to share ideas about the use of the land set aside for such practices.  Strangely enough, David's concept to the Death Retreat was selected among a few to move forward with.  When was the last time you invested time to contribute to the world?  

On this day dedicated to humility, what better event could there be to attend than a funeral?  David and Kelly recount the beautiful celebration of life of their friend while at the same time discuss how David really shook it up and made it something that it's usually not.  The overwhelming response from David's actions were incredibly positive and appreciated.  David's homework is not optional, it's a MUST do, especially in the moment.  

Kelly and David discuss the wisdom of David's mother and the advice she gave but wasn't readily accepted by David in his less mature years.  In reflection, she was spot-on despite having no applied experience, just incredible insight and intuition.  Kelly brings up the "retirement party" for David and how he was the one doing all the heavy lifting, as he had during his tenure at Sonnet Hill.  David laments the fact that his team got accustomed to his leading by example rather than adopting it and carrying on the legacy.  His view of things to come is dim, while Kelly still remains optimistic.  

Kelly and David discuss the importance of having a healthy perspective on your relationship with your worklife and those you work with.  The duo recount David's farewell party with his clients and their families.  David's homework isn't so simple and may challenge you and your decisions. 

Kelly and David discuss the value of a grudge.  Not surprisingly, they find very little in support.  David continues his quest to be transparent and reveals a situation where he kept a 20+ year grudge and how it drove a decision where to spend a quarter of a million dollars.  While it may have felt good in the moment of enforcing a vendetta, at the end of it all, as with most grudges, it was a hollow victory.    

Kelly and David dig into the ego and how humility drives the evolution of maturity.  David shares the reason why he didn't announce his retirement on a larger scale.  Kelly points out not only who but perhaps the reasons why those who found out by the grapevine, found out.  When your good work is done, will you humbly merge into the next stage, or will you seek the attention to validate?  If so, did you ever question the need for external validation?
