Apple PodcastsAndroidRSSTimothy Powel is an American author from Lansing, Michigan in the U.S. As a child he hated English with a passion and that disdain for the English language continued right throughout his school days, something I can resonate with. However, in the early 1970’s he undertook a Journalism course and that was the initial spark along with a lot of encouragement from numerous tutors over a prolonged period to re-engage with the written word. Looking back at his life which has taken him down many paths both professionally and personally a lot has happened, but the one constant thing that has remained steadfast throughout his adult life is the love of language, odd that for a person who as a child loathed the very prospect of picking up a book to read let alone a pen to write. How our oddities of likes and dislikes change over time.
The idea and concept for writing his book goes back to 1993 when Timothy watched a pair of nesting geese close to where he lived, twenty-five years later he completed the story and first published it. The aim of the book is to encourage young minds to enjoy reading and at the same time have fun discovering the beauty of the wildlife that comes into our lives everyday no matter where that encounter takes place, in the open wilderness or in our back gardens. So, let’s have a sneak preview at Timothy J Powell’s book.

The Book
This is an endearing story about two geese Gilda and Glen raising their brood off six goslings from the moment of hatching to their first flight, the victory flight that will take them to warmer waters and new adventures. For Meeme, Shuely, Freely the first three goslings to hatch and Ricky, Lucy and Mikey the last three to hatch exciting times lie ahead so do dangers, dangers they must face and avoid. The story is told against the backdrop of wonderful vivid illustrations bringing to life a community of wildlife around Timmy’s Pond. The Goldfinch family and Bluey and Bluetta the Herons add to the enchanting story. Yes, it’s a cute story for 8–10-year-olds depending upon their reading ability to enjoy, but equally it has a message for young children, mainly give nesting birds respect and space while they rear and protect their young ones. It’s also a book Grandparents and Parents can enjoy reading and sharing with the young ones.
