THE GOLDEN ERA OF HIP-HOP, VOL. 1

With the news of the passing of MF Doom, I was inspired to make a playlist consisting of my first musical obsession, Hip-Hop. From the late 80's and through the early 90's, I bought and collected hip-hop cassettes and CD's. I had so many that I had multiple shelves containing them. I used to also tape trade episodes of the legendary hip-hop radio show, The Stretch Armstrong Show; later to be known as the Stretch and Bobbito show. I would find the episodes I needed in classified ads in the back of the Source magazine, and would trade with people that needed what I had. On this episode of Gimme Danger Radio our guest DJ, Colin Clive takes us on a tour of the songs that continually occupy his mind. Colin Clive is the guitarist and sometimes vocalist of the Grand Rapids, Michigan Ska-Punk band Mustard Plug, and is also the guitarist and vocalist of the post-punk-cold wave band, The War Between. Colin is one of my oldest and dearest friends, and it was an honor to sit down and talk with him about the music that he loves. For Episode 10 of Gimme Danger Radio I had the chance to talk about music with fellow Michigan punk kid, Rich Miles. Rich Miles was the bassist of Constatine Sankathi, a DIY hardcore band based out of Kalamazoo, Michigan in the mid '90's. Constatine Sankathi along with fellow Michigan hardcore bands Bev Clone, Current, Ottawa, Ordination of Aaron, ect., were part of a larger DIY hardcore music community across America who's influence on punk and hardcore can still be heard today. You may not know who Constatine Sankathi or any of the other bands I mentioned may be, but chances are if your efavorite band just might have.
