Hello and Selamat siang! Welcome to this episode of Global Village 069 – The World at Home in Frankfurt.
My guest today is the wonderful Andita Schirmacher. Andita was born and raised in Indonesia and lives with her family in Hattersheim. Her mission: to make Indonesian cuisine better known in Germany.
Andita’s most important tool in this endeavor is her cooking workshops under the name Andita’s Culinary Inspirations. We’ll talk about what participants can expect, why it’s impossible to define “THE” Indonesian cuisine, which ingredients are essential in any Indonesian kitchen, and why she only learned to cook once she came to Germany.

26 – Peru in Frankfurt – Carlos Palacios on hardcore punk, salsa and living freely
Gude and Hola! Welcome to this episode of Global Village 069 – The world at home in Frankfurt.
This time, our world tour through Frankfurt takes us to one of the most beautiful countries I’ve ever visited: Peru. When I traveled there in 2018, the landscapes, the culture, the food, and especially the warmth and joy of the people completely enchanted me. I’m thrilled to have a guest for this episode who radiates exactly that joy and creativity: Carlos Palacios.
Carlos’s life is deeply shaped by music. His first love is hardcore punk. For almost 30 years he has run the label Entes Anomicos, collaborating mainly with artists across Latin America. He is also active in the Rhine-Main region as a salsa DJ, both solo and with the collective Frankfurt Allstars.
We talk about how he discovered hardcore punk, what a wall of death is, and why hardcore punk and salsa have more in common than you’d think. Carlos also shares how he maintains such a high artistic output and why living without expectations has become part of his philosophy. And of course, we explore where you can experience Peru in Frankfurt—whether on your plate or at one of Carlos’s salsa parties.

24 – Lviv and Frankfurt - Mariana Haramus on “two cities - one home”, politics and feminine power
Gude and Pryvit! Welcome to this episode of Global Village 069 - The world at home in Frankfurt.
I'm thrilled to be re-starting our world tour through Frankfurt. To kick things off again, I’m speaking to a woman who has inspired me tremendously: Mariana Haramus.
Mariana is a politician with heart and soul. She stood as a direct candidate for the Volt party in the Bundestag elections in February. I found it very insightful to hear from her how she perceived politics as a career changer.
We also talk about her home town of Lviv in western Ukraine. Mariana has lived in Frankfurt since 2001, but still has close ties with Lviv and had even visited there a few days before our interview. I was very moved by her reports of everyday life there during the war.

Gude and kaliméra! Welcome to this episode of Global Village 069 - The World at Home in Frankfurt, the podcast celebrating the international diversity of Frankfurt am Main.
With my guest today, it's almost a shame that you can only hear him. Because Evangelos Deligiannis, known as Wango, has to be seen to be believed, and on stage for that matter. However, he's not on the road as Wango, but as Vanessa P., one of the brightest stars in the art of drag that Frankfurt has to offer.
We talk about how the young Greek folklore dancer became one of the city's most glamorous drag queens. Wango shares the best stories from over 30 years on stage. And, of course, he also has some fantastic tips on how we can all discover Greece in Frankfurt.

20 – Ukraine in Frankfurt - helping people to help themselves, with Olena Levchenko from the Ukrainian Coordination Center e.V.
Gude and Pryvit! Welcome to this episode of Global Village 069 - The World at Home in Frankfurt, the podcast celebrating the international diversity of Frankfurt am Main.
The Ukrainian Coordination Center e.V. (or UCC for short) has helped tens of thousands of Ukrainian refugees to arrive in Frankfurt and Hesse since March 2020. The wide range of services - from job advice and German courses to a children's choir - are run entirely by volunteers.
One of them is the young student Olena Levchenko, who came to Frankfurt from Kiev with her family. In our interview, she talks about the impressive work of the UCC and shares her personal story. I'll be honest: I was deeply touched by the strength and commitment of Olena and the other volunteers.
