Katie will share one of the most crucial elements for maintaining your sanity and thriving as the CEO of your brand: the importance of having the right support in place. Our mission for you is to build a business that not only grows with you but also thrives in your absence, providing you with time, freedom, and the ability to expand opportunities for your team and staff.

Like many entrepreneurs, I initially struggled to effectively lead and train my VA. However, I recognized the potential for more time and freedom within my business. Through trial and error, I discovered that having the right support system in place was the key to reclaiming my time and focusing on strategic growth. Now, with a dedicated team of VAs supporting me full-time, I have more time to devote to essential tasks that drive the expansion of my business.

    Key points discussed:

    Identifying Tasks for Delegation:

    • Conduct an exercise to identify tasks that fall outside the entrepreneur's zone of genius.
    • Delegate tasks such as social media management, content creation, customer service, and development projects.
    • Imagine the possibilities of reclaiming even just five hours a week from the endless task list.

  • EP 21 - How To Increase Student Numbers When Marketing Budget Is Low!

Welcome back to another episode of our podcast, designed to support you on your journey. Today, Katie Cannon, founder of Gold Medal Business dives deep into how you can effectively market your children's activity business, even when your budget is low.

    Key Points Discussed:

Marketing is important and should be a continuous effort in your business. It's the key to keep your student numbers flowing.

    1. Leafleting: Despite seeming outdated, targeted leafleting can still be highly effective. Ensure your leaflets reach local areas where your ideal clients are likely to be, such as schools, libraries, and leisure centers.
    2. Partnerships and Collaborations: Build relationships with local businesses and organizations that cater to the same audience. This mutual promotion can significantly increase your exposure without extra cost.
    3. Referrals and Word-of-Mouth: Treat your referral system like a comprehensive campaign. Go beyond casual mentions and develop structured processes to encourage and track referrals.

Approach every marketing strategy with a campaign mindset. This means detailed planning, execution, and follow-up to maximize results.

Your entrepreneurial journey is unique, and even with a low marketing budget, you can achieve significant growth by leveraging these strategies. Stay persistent, passionate, and adaptable on your path to success. Remember, every effort counts and can be a stepping stone to greater achievements.

  • EP 20 - Create The Right Priorities to Get Results in Your Business

Welcome back to another exciting episode designed to guide and support you on your entrepreneurial journey. Today, Katie Cannon is diving deep in where to direct your energy and efforts to achieve the results you desire.

    In this episode, we explore:

    • The importance of knowing where your focus lies in your business.
    • How to prioritize tasks to achieve daily, weekly, and monthly goals.
    • The impact of focusing on the wrong areas and trying to do too many things at once.
    • Practical advice on aligning your daily tasks with your business goals.

    Key Points:

Identify Your Daily Focus: Reflect on what you focus on daily and whether it aligns with your business goals. Avoid ending the day feeling like you haven't achieved what you needed.

Many entrepreneurs feel overwhelmed because they focus on too many things simultaneously. Recognize the importance of cash flow and marketing to increase student numbers.

Prioritization and Cash Flow: Your primary focus should be activities that generate cash flow and attract students. Ensuring your marketing efforts are effective is crucial for business growth.

Understand that it's normal to feel like everything is a priority. Accept that some parts of your business will always need improvement, and that's okay.

Concentrate on one key area for a set period (a quarter, month, or week) to see significant progress. Learn to distinguish between immediate priorities and those that can wait.

Conduct a weekly brain dump to assess what you've done and if it aligns with your priorities. Be honest about tasks that aren't urgent but have been occupying your time.

Finish the week strong by focusing on tasks that drive your business forward.

Remember, mistakes are stepping stones to achievements. Tune in for more insights from Katie's experiences in the next episode!

  • EP 19 - How To Thrive in the Children's Activity and Sports Market

In today's episode, Katie dives deep on how children's activity entrepreneurs can thrive above the challenges in the current marketplace. As an entrepreneur, it’s important to become solution-driven, funding your business wisely, and always researching new financial opportunities.

Maintain confidence and don’t let market obstacles cap your business growth!

Be a Catalyst, Not a Cap

    • Your role as an entrepreneur is to drive your business forward, not to hold it back.
    • Avoid bottlenecking your business; instead, make decisions that propel growth.

    Navigating Market Challenges

    • The market may be shaky with potential recessions and fluctuating mortgage rates, but these should be seen as opportunities.
    • Katie started her first successful company during the 2008 recession, proving that challenging times can be leveraged for growth.

    Leadership and Mindset

    • Increase your leadership and protect your mindset. Lead with steadiness and avoid reactive decisions that cap your business.
    • Embrace the "10x" mentality: do more follow-up calls, more marketing, and ensure no money is left on the table.

    Creative Marketing

    • Stand out in the marketplace by being creative. Think outside the box and zag when everyone else zigs.
    • Katie’s expertise in creative marketing can help entrepreneurs differentiate their businesses and thrive.

Use tough market conditions to your advantage by working harder and smarter! If you can thrive now, 2025 could be your best year yet.

  • EP 18 - How To Make Your Parents More Aware That Your Classes Exist

Welcome to another episode of Go Gold with Katie! Today, I'm diving into the five steps of awareness that your potential customers (parents) go through on their journey to becoming your clients. It's important to understand these steps to customise your marketing effectively and build a sustainable children’s activity business business.

1️⃣ Unaware: Your potential customer is blissfully unaware that you exist. Your focus here is on brand awareness without directly selling. Utilize platforms like Facebook and Instagram posts and organic reach to let them know you're here.

2️⃣ Pain/Problem: The parent might start to notice a need for your service, even if they're not yet aware of your brand. They might recognize that their child needs an activity for coordination or social skills development.

3️⃣ Starting the Conversation: Now that you've caught their attention, it's time to engage them in conversation. Show them how your services can address their pain points and benefit their child.

4️⃣ Solution Aware:They're aware of your solution and how it can help them. This is where you start emphasizing the benefits of your classes, camps, or workshops.

5️⃣ Finally, you've earned the right to sell. You've built trust and connection through your marketing efforts, and now they're ready to become your clients.

Remember, human connection is key throughout this process. It's not just booking a trial; it's nurturing relationships and earning the right to sell. This is a long-term game, but when you consistently apply these steps, you'll see your business momentum build.

If you're ready to take your business to the next level this summer, don't miss out. Make summer 2024 your most profitable season! Learn how to increase your cash flow and students.

  • EP 17 - Are You Ready To Scale?

One of the biggest mistakes we see is people scaling too quickly, leaving money, opportunity on the table and not maximising their current resources. Katie learned this the hard way, listen to this week’s Go Gold episode so you do not make the same mistakes!

Here are the four key areas to focus on when evaluating your readiness to scale. These are the pillars that will not only fuel your growth but also maximize your cash flow and set you up for long-term success:

    1. Space and Capacity: Are you maxed out in terms of space? Do you have a waiting list with no room for more students? If so, it might be time to consider expansion. But remember, quality over quantity. It's much better to have one fully booked venue than multiple half-filled ones.

    2. Team: Have you maximised your team's potential? Consider their hours, opportunities for additional revenue streams, and overall morale. A thriving, motivated team in one location is far more effective than a scattered one spread across multiple venues.

    3. Resource Utilization: Have you tapped into every resource available to you? This goes beyond just marketing budgets. Leverage your assets efficiently, from space and team members to marketing strategies. Think outside the box and explore avenues for maximising your resources.

    4. Expenses: Take a critical look at your expenses. Are they optimized for your current setup? Avoid spreading resources too thin by prioritizing quality over quantity.

Scaling isn't just about expanding; it's about doing so strategically and sustainably.

Reflect on these key areas and assess… are you ready to SCALE?

If you found today's session valuable, don't forget to share it with fellow children's activity entrepreneurs! If you need further support, please email our team at [email protected]

  • EP 16 - 3 Areas to Increase Your Student Numbers

Welcome to another episode of Go Gold as a Children’s Activity and Sports Entrepreneur with Katie Cannon! Katie will share with you the three dynamic strategies to increase your lead generation.

The most pressing questions we hear from entrepreneurs like you is “how to boost business growth?”. Whether your goal is to increase your student numbers, expand your team, or scale your brand, these three powerful avenues will help you to increase your student numbers and grow and scale your business to new heights.

    1. Referrals. Referrals aren't just "bring a friend" campaigns; they're creating strategic partnerships, nurturing word-of-mouth, and fostering collaborative opportunities. In fact, referrals are so important that we dedicated an entire four-week training session to master that in our mentorship program. Remember, referrals are the cornerstone of your marketing strategy.

    1. Organic Marketing. While Facebook and Instagram ads can be powerful tools, relying solely on them can be risky. That's why, embrace organic marketing with creativity - it’s all about building authentic connections and brand awareness. Think beyond ads!

    1. Paid advertising. When done right, paid ads can bring remarkable results. However, it's important to ensure that your ads are not only effective but also cost-efficient.Make sure you have a solid understanding of how to optimize your campaigns for maximum impact.

If you found these insights valuable, drop a comment below with "scale" or shoot us a DM to learn more about how you can optimize your marketing strategy. • EP 15 - Should You Be VAT Registered as a Children's Activity Entrepreneur

In today's episode, Katie delves into a topic that's often overlooked but crucial for every children's activity and sports entrepreneur: VAT registration. Through her own journey spanning two decades in the industry, Katie shares invaluable insights and advice to pay close attention to VAT thresholds as you navigate your business growth.

Katie's accountant alerted her to the looming VAT threshold, presenting her with a choice: either register for VAT and continue growing her business or stagnate due to fear of the unknown. This decision is a common crossroads for children’s activity and sports entrepreneurs like yourself.

Drawing from personal experience, Katie has her own missteps particularly her initial reluctance to adjust prices to cover VAT costs and falling into a scam. This mistake led to financial difficulties and valuable lessons learned.

    Here’s some key takeaways:

    • Confront fear head-on.
    • Do not let fear dictate your choices but instead to see challenges as opportunities for growth and expansion.
    • Make decisions with the future of your business in mind.
    • Make proactive decisions and be financially prepared for regulatory changes.
    • Maintain meticulous records and seek support from trustworthy professionals like accountants and bookkeepers.
