  • E8 - Impossible for me, possible for you?

My name is Laura. (you can find me on IG: @going_for_something).

I have been inspired to start this podcast series because I would love to help anyone who might be facing similar struggles to what I have worked (and am still working through) myself.

I love coaching women in these areas and look forward to sharing my story and journey with you and would love to coach you in your journey.

This week I will talk about how we tell ourselves certain things are 'impossible' - and when this might not be true.

We will talk about what to do about it to start changing these beliefs

...and whether this could be about a story we're telling ourselves about failiure.

and finally, a dream I have for a cultural shift in narrative around this. where we all step down into the arena together. Instead of it being unusual to be going for our dreams and hence to be facing with failing, it's odd to not be failing on our journeys.

This week I will talk about something I have struggled with a lot over the years - moving the goalposts.

I will talk about what moving the goalposts looks like for me - in terms of both bringing them closer to home AND moving them further away when im on the verge of success.

I will talk about what impact it has on me in both cases. Why failing at a goal doesnt mean there aren't successes on the journey still to be celebrated.

And what to think about when setting goals for yourself, which is an art, not a science - to try to ensure goalpost moving is reduced or eliminated.

This week I will talk about overthinking - how to identify when we are thinking too much, at the expense of taking action.

From here, how to do the hardest next bit - get started!

and finally, closing the loop - when in turn to think and plan more again (yes - its a cycle and it comes back around!)

This week I will talk about why I only listed to 3 podcasts. Yup, 3 podcasts. that. is. it.

I talk about the dangers of procrastalearning and overwhelm. The difference between feeling competent and being competent. And how to actually take away the most from each podcast you listen to.

I also talk about how this approach contributes to rather than restricting my growth and finally some forward thoughts I have on some growth learning I am still to take in future around my podcast consumption.

This week I will talk about a specific thing from David Allen's Getting things done (GTD) system - the 'someday maybe list'

I talk about how using this list allows me to simultaneously manage having new inspirations but without dropping off from my current goals mid way through (which seem scarier and less fun in the now).

I talk about how the list has helped me break the idea that it is 'now or never' on ideas and helped me to focus on things I really truly want in the long term.

How do you motivate yourself? do you use positive or negative motivators? Are you often using self punishment as a way to push through and get your goals done?

    It is so common!

This episode I talk about both positive (the carrot/silver) and negative (the stick/lead) motivators. I talk about how I have often been guilty of over-using the stick and what this might mean if we do this too often. I talk about where the line might be in 'too far' with using the stick and also ways to use positive methods i.e. the carrot instead.

Do you ever find yourself saying 'no one else struggles like this'?

If yes, this episode is for you. I will share a little bit about what I have learned to do when i feel this way.

We will talk about why this sentence is so hard to break free from. About negative self talk that may surround it, the truth of this statement (hint, your mind can be abit of a naughty liar sometimes) and finally its connection to overwhelm.

Finally we cover the need to break free from its clutches - and ideas on how to do so.

  • E1 - motivation is bullsh*t

My name is Laura. (you can find me on IG: @going_for_something).

I have been inspired to start this podcast series because I would love to help anyone who might be facing similar struggles to what I have worked (and am still working through) myself.

I love coaching women in these areas and look forward to sharing my story and journey with you.

This episode I will talk about how motivation is bullsh*t.

Waiting for that motivational feeling to get going is going to be a slow and unsteady road. If we just needed 'more motivation', then we would probably have achieved all of our goals. Therefore, motivation is Bullsh*t!

I talk about the root excuses behind lack of motivation, how this message about needing motivation is harmful and contributing to our fixed mindsets and the steps you can take to get something done (instead of waiting for motivation to pop along if it fancies!)
