  • Understanding Nuclear Power and Radiation (Prof. Douglas Gobeille)

For today's episode I am joined again by Professor Gobeille to talk more things physics.  This time we're covering nuclear energy.  Is it safe?  Is it dangerous?  If a nuclear power plant were attacked with conventional weapons, would we be safe?  Also, what is radiation?  What is nuclear radiation?  These terms tend to evoke fear from many and I think it's time we clear the air about what these things are and what they are not.

  • Why Everyone Should Know About The Carrington Event (Prof. Douglas Gobeille)

In 1859 the planet was struck by a concentrated blast of charged particles from our Sun.  It affected our world like a giant EMP.  It became known as the Carrington Event.  I sat down with Professor Douglas Gobeille of the University of Rhode Island to find out more about this phenomenon.  A noted Physicist, Prof. Gobeille helped shed some light into this.  How exactly did this occur?  How did it affect us back then?  And most importantly, could it happen again and how would it affect our world today if it did?

  • Ukraine Conversation

For today's episode I'm talking the Russian invasion of Ukraine with returning guest, Tyler C.  Tyler often does not have the same opinion as I do which I feel makes the episodes more interesting and inciteful.  Conversations like this are why I made the podcast.  To be able to share our honest opinions on heavy topics like this without rudeness or judgement.  It's been so long since I had an episode like this, I'm glad we got to do it.

  • Flashback: Helping Students with Trauma (Dr. Diane Kern)

Today's episode is a flashback to early last season.  I sat down with Dr. Diane Kern from the University of Rhode Island to talk about her work helping young people dealing with trauma.  We're talking about trauma of all types, including PTSD.  In season 1 I did an episode with a boots on ground professional helping veterans with trauma.  So, I figured it fitting to do an episode dedicated to understanding and helping children dealing with trauma.

  • Flashback: Surviving Sex Trafficking (Amanda Catarzi)

Today's episode is a gem from Season 2.  Sex trafficking is a rapidly growing concern in our society and my guest was raised in a cult and is a survivor of sex trafficking.  She later went undercover in the U.S. and around the world busting sex trafficking rings.  She's done remarkable things, from writing federal legislation, to negotiating with warlords in foreign countries for children.
