  • Interview: The Wild and Wonderful World of Asymmetric Universe
Founded by multi-instrumentalists Nicolò and Federico Vese, Italian progressive metal duo Asymmetric Universe has carved out a distinct space in the modern instrumental scene with a sound that seamlessly blends the aggressive intensity of metal with the rich harmonies and improvisational spirit of jazz fusion. Having emerged from a shared passion for composition and sonic exploration during their intense period of musical study nearly 10 years ago, the band now are set to release their debut album, A Memory And What Came After, via InsideOutMusic, on the 29th August 2025.
The album was mixed by Sebastian Sendon, with Adam “Nolly” Getgood also providing assistance with drum recording, which took place in the UK at Middle Farm Studios.
We pulled back the curtain on the creative journey that Nicolò and Federico Vese have been and the work that has gone into making A Memory And What Came After a reality, as well as so much more.

  • Interview: Born of Osiris - Walking Through Shadows with Cameron Losch (Drums)
Progressive metalcore pioneers Born of Osiris released their brand-new album ‘Through Shadows’, on July 11th, via Sumerian Records.
Born of Osiris are back, more eclectic and electrifying than ever, and pushing their progressive metalcore sound in new directions. You can never accuse this band of stagnating, but even the most hardcore of fans will find themselves taken back by how much experimentation is going on here. Although that’s not to suggest that it isn’t evidently Born of Osiris and not filled with aggression, intensity, and brutish heaviness, because it is.
Bigger, bolder, better. That’s what Born of Osiris have delivered on this new album.
Check out our full review here: https://www.gbhbl.com/album-review-born-of-osiris-through-shadows-sumerian-records/
We spoke with drummer Cameron Losch about the new album, all the work that went into making a reality, the challenges, but also the moments of joy, of which there were many. We also talk about the continued evolution of Born of Osiris, how that has driven him to evolve too, and so much more.

  • Interview: In Conversation with Cito - The Shadowy World of BLVD HVNNY
In a world veering ever closer to the edge of itself, BLVD HVNNY is borne—a spectral pulse in the gathering dark. This is the shadow-self of Cito, known for fronting South African bands WONDERboom, El Cantante, and Absinthè. With BLVD HVNNY, a more introspective and cinematic expression takes form—gothic, electronic, and unafraid to dwell in the sublime weight of melancholy.
What began as a solitary studio project—beat-driven, synth-laced, and self-contained—soon outgrew its walls. The live stage demanded more. And so, BLVD HVNNY evolved into a full-bodied force: a five-piece band of formidable musicians who now breathe life into the sound both on stage and in studio. While the music still leans into its electronic roots, each element is played live—sampled textures rendered through real instruments, giving the songs a visceral, haunting immediacy.
Their evocative reimagining of Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds’ The Weeping Song, featuring Ross Learmonth of Prime Circle, held the #1 spot on Mix 93.8 FM’s SA Top 40 for five consecutive weeks and was crowned Song of the Year. Visually, the world of BLVD HVNNY is just as potent. Joaquín, directed by Bradley Devine, claimed Best Music Video at five international film festivals, while Nocturnes added three more to the collection.
The debut album, IX, is a sonic descent—a beautifully fractured mirror of mood and memory. It features lyrical collaborations with long-time co-writer Erin Alden (Lilac Sky, Joaquín, Scarface); gothic icon Ashton Nyte of The Awakening (who also lends his voice to She’s One of Us Now); and the haunting presence of Bronwyn Leigh Fink on a stirring rendition of Yazoo’s Winter Kills. That same track was further elevated by a powerful creative reunion with old school friend and world-renowned producer Craigie Dodds, who’s masterful, genre-defying touch drew out the song’s buried intensity and cast it in a bold, twisted light.
At the helm of the rest of album’s production are two studio visionaries: Matthew Fink—formerly of The Awakening and producer to a host of South African alt pop rock records—and Barry Berk, whose refined ear and immersive mix work have left their unmistakable mark on every track.
With BLVD HVNNY, Cito delves into exquisitely sculpted darkness—unravelling personal mythologies, chasing echoes through shadowed halls, and weaving together goth, trip hop, and electronica into something that lingers, long after the final note.
In this interview, we spoke to Cito about ‘IX’ and the journey that he has been on to see it become reality. We also talk about the evolution of BLVD HVNNY, the desire to expand, what the future might hold, and so much more.

  • Interview: The Bold and Beautiful - Talking The Lost Years with Dreamwake
Following their debut ‘Virtual Reality’, progressive metalcore band Dreamwake is now gearing up to release their sophomore album, ‘The Lost Years’, via UNFD – a record that expands their sonic world even further. At its core, The Lost Years is a conceptually ambitious and deeply personal body of work – one that invites listeners into a richly textured sonic universe while confronting the passage of time and the spaces in between who we were and who we become. It will be released on August 8th, 2025.
An experience like no other, while having so many recognisable parts, Dreamwake do the impossible here. Creating something that is more akin to sensations, where listening to it with multitudes of daily distractions isn’t an option, and a word like unique isn’t hyperbolic in the slightest. There hasn’t been anything like this all year (and longer) and may not be until the next time Dreamwake release something.

We spoke to the entire band, getting their individual perspective on the release and the work that went into making it a reality. We also talk about the depth it has, the journey the band has been on to refine their sound, their creative chemistry, and so much more.

  • Interview: I'm A Mess - The Thrilling Creative World of Jessie Dipper
UK-based artist, producer and songwriter Jessie returns with I’m A Mess — a raw, grunge-infused anthem that marks a bold sonic departure from her recent Nashville Vignettes EP.
Out 1st August 2025, the single channels the distorted energy of Nirvana, Blur and The White Stripes, while staying rooted in the folk-driven storytelling that defines her work.
Following on from Little Miss London — a standout track from her 2022 album Sticky Floors — I’m A Mess continues the narrative arc, shifting from external chaos to internal reckoning. Where Little Miss London captured a lipstick-smudged stranger on a midnight train, I’m A Mess turns the lens inward, exploring Jessie’s own vices, coping mechanisms and the beauty found in imperfection.
With a vocal that moves from gravel to falsetto and a full-band arrangement that hits hard and honest, I’m A Mess is both a cathartic release and a declaration of self-acceptance and surrender. It’s a track that celebrates the mess — not as a flaw, but as a part of becoming.
I’m A Mess is available on all major streaming platforms now.
We had the pleasure of speaking with Jessie, not just going into detail about the new single, but also Jessie’s incredible career to date, her creative drive, the work that goes into everything, the future, and so much more.

  • Interview: In Devastation - Reflection, but Looking Forward with Frédéric Leclercq of Sinsaenum
Extreme metal supergroup Sinsaenum are back and back with a beast of a record! Their long-awaited brand-new album, 'In Devastation', will be released on August 8th, 2025, via earMUSIC.
The release marks the band’s first new material since the tragic passing of legendary drummer Joey Jordison (Slipknot, Murderdolls) in 2021. Both the single and album serve as a cathartic tribute to Jordison and to guitarist and founder Frédéric Leclercq’s late father, whose deaths profoundly shaped the emotional and creative direction of the project.
Joining Leclercq on this latest chapter are returning members Attila Csihar (Mayhem), Sean Zatorsky (Dååth), Stéphane Buriez (Loudblast), and Heimoth (Seth). Stepping in behind the kit is Andre Joyzi, formerly Jordison’s tech and a trusted member of the band’s touring family.
We spoke to Frédéric Leclercq about the new album, the emotion behind it, the work that went into creating it, and what it means to release it. It’s not all about looking back though, as we also discuss how the band is looking forward while honouring the past, what the future looks like, and so much more.

  • Interview: Hammer Defined - Talking Trapped & More
Scottish heavy hitters, Hammer will self-release their new album ‘Trapped’ on August 1st, 2025. An album with themes inspired by the band’s collective interests in gaming and horror.
Hammer realised, Hammer defined, Hammer as they stand today, and Hammer ready to mess you up. Featuring unexpected depth, impressive variety, and undeniable intensity, the Scottish metallers have aimed high with this release and hit the mark. Not just because of focus, but because it’s the perfect distillation of who and what they are right now. Capable of delivering unrelenting ferocity across all areas of the band, but confident enough to let every single aspect of the band shine. Then, throw in a thick lathering of cynicism, anger, horror, and more, connected to the ‘entrapment’ vein that runs through the entire thing, and you’re left with an album that slaps hard.
