The EP serves as the final piece of the conceptual puzzle that ties all of the band’s recent releases together, relating to their Greyscale and Sparkle EP’s both lyrically and thematically.
What a journey we’ve been on with DARKO and what a culmination this is. Three EPs, one grand and inventive listen experience that might tell many individual stories, but overall, tells the story of DARKO’s evolution. They’ve grown so much over the past few years and this EP embodies that perfectly.

  • Interview: Rites to Ruin - Dragging NWOBHM Kicking and Screaming into the Modern Era
UK heavy metal outfit Rites to Ruin released their highly anticipated debut album, 'Daughter of Hatred', on 30th June 2025.
The band, fronted by powerhouse vocalist Krissie Kirby (Triaxis), features a seasoned lineup of Matt Chambers (Triaxis, In the Absence of Light) & Lee Cartner on guitars, Paul Boschen (Burn thy Enemy) on bass, and Zak Skane (Democratus) on drums. Together, they craft a dynamic and hard-hitting sound that is both nostalgic and refreshingly contemporary.
Filled with heavy metal flair, and not just because of vocalist Krissie’s signature soaring vocals, Rites to Ruin bring NWOBHM kicking and screaming into the modern era. Stylishly combining retro head banging vibes with progressive creative thinking across ten mighty bangers. Putting it simply, it’s an album with depth, but it’s also an album that encourages head banging. A fist raising, chest thumping, head banger of a debut album.

  • Interview: 35 Years of Sigh & Hangman’s Hymn MMXXV - Mirai Kawashima
This year, Japanese black metal legends Sigh celebrate 35 years of existence. With a career that has seen the release of 12 studio albums, countless worldwide shows, and a relentless dedication to pushing musical boundaries, they have firmly cemented their status as one of the most revered and influential cult acts in extreme metal.
To celebrate, Sigh have revisited their 2007 opus, Hangman’s Hymn. A compositional powerhouse in its own right, Hangman’s Hymn was notably Sigh’s first concept album, blending fast 80s thrash metal influences from bands like Wehrmacht, Sarcofago, and Repulsion with classical music—particularly German symphonies. However, Hangman’s Hymn was often seen as not fully meeting the band’s own standards in terms of execution and production. As a result, frontman Mirai Kawashima took it upon himself to do justice to this at times overlooked masterpiece of intricate songwriting by re-recording it with the current Sigh sound and delivery, under the title I Saw the World’s End – Hangman’s Hymn MMXXV.
It was released via Peaceville on 13th June.
Doing the impossible, turning an already iconic album into something even better, Sigh’s decision to re-record this beloved record has proven to be a genius move. Not only because its unique style and structure has been made richer and bolder thanks to modern technology, but because a whole new set of listeners are going to experience this album’s brilliance for the first time, and it is brilliant.

  • Interview: Secreum - Talking Metamorphosis & More
Secreum are a 4-piece metal band formed in North London in 2012. With crushing guitar riffs and pummelling drums along with an ear bursting low end in between frenetic solos, it provides the perfect backdrop to convey all the injustices we deal with in life whilst also shedding light on the things we hold most dear.
Their latest single, 'Metamorphosis' is out now and can be summed up as thrashing beast of a track. Fast, intense, and very mean sounding, but with melodies and one hell of an anthemic chorus. It's the sound of a band evolving, showing off their growth, and setting up their future.
The future is one such topic of discussion in this interview. Where we had all members of Secreum involved, talking about the past, present, and future. Going into the details around Metamorphosis and so much more.

  • Interview: Alex Bacey (Guitars) of Ominous Ruin - Talking Requiem
US extreme metallers Ominous Ruin are back, transformed by significant line-up changes, with their brand-new album, ‘Requiem’, released on May 9th, 2025, via Willowtip Records.
Now helmed by the fierce and enigmatic vocalist, Crystal Rose, this new album feels like a significant turning point for Ominous Ruin. Having spent many years (they formed in 2010) grinding away, this album feels like the record that pushes them upwards and into more ears around the world. It certainly helps that it’s an extreme metal banger with twists on the brutal, technical, melodic death metal, and even black metal genres.
Which might make it sound confused, but Ominous Ruin do a good job of combining all the intensity, allowing it to flow naturally between highs to lows, and offering up enough experimental ideas to make even the most hardened of extreme fans nod in approval.

One of the most exciting bands in the world, when TSS release music, all fans of modern and alternative metal pay attention because if there’s one thing we can all be assured, it’s that a new TSS record will have anthems.
    Guess what?
Yes, it’s an anthemic record with a ton of instant hits that refuse to conform to any genre norm. They’ve delivered a banger record here. One of the most varied examples of modern metal.

  • Interview: Simon (Composer/Guitars/Bass/Vocals) of AVKRVST
Two years on from their spellbinding debut 'The Approbation', Norwegian progressive rock group AVKRVST are poised to release their second and most formidable album 'Waving at the Sky', which is set for release on June 13th via InsideOutMusic.
'The Approbation' was praised by critics for its ambitious, immersive storytelling and its musical complexity. It was regarded as one of the best genre debuts in years, and it showcased AVKRVST as a top-tier newcomer in progressive music. Now, 'Waving at the Sky' takes everything that was compelling about 'The Approbation' and pushes it further towards progressive perfection. A dark and devastating concept record about real life events, it is a spiritual successor to its predecessor, and a huge leap forward on every conceivable level.
Story-wise, 'Waving at the Sky' is the prequel to 'The Approbation'. The 7 news tracks are inspired by a gruesome family tragedy and the bleak soul from the debut, showcased as the lonely man in the cabin in previous music videos, is one of the characters in the new album.
This story and the bleakness surrounding it is just one aspect of the new album that we discussed with AVKRVST's Simon Bergseth (composer, guitars, bass and vocals), alongside so much more. There's nobody quite like AVKRVST, and this interview showcases just why they are such a compelling group.
