  • Interview: Rich (Guitars) of Desolated
Legendary Brit hardcore bruisers Desolated are back with their much-anticipated brand-new album, ‘Finding Peace’, out on May 30th, 2025, via MLVLTD.
Putting it bluntly, this is as mean as it gets. Desolated bring the stompy hardcore heavy, but with metalised intensity, and deliver each track with furious focus. Chances are, you’ll end up with a bloody nose just sitting alone listening to it.
Read our full review of the album here: https://www.gbhbl.com/album-review-desolated-finding-peace-mlvltd/
We spoke to guitarist Rich of Desolated, going into the details about this album's creation, the drive behind Desolated, their status in the hardcore scene, how the rise of so many great young bands has encouraged them, and so much more.

  • Interview: Marco (Vocals) of The Haunted
It’s been far too long, but finally, The Haunted are back! On their tenth studio album, ‘Songs of Last Resort’, the Swedish legends set out to reclaim the modern thrash throne and deliver their most intense and vital music to date. It is out on May 30th, 2025, via Century Media.
Somehow, the five-piece (Marco Aro – lead vocals / Jensen – rhythm guitar / Ola Englund – rhythm & lead guitar / Jonas Björler – bass, backing vocals / Adrian Erlandsson – drums) have turned the clock backwards, but also found new and exciting ways to express themselves. Choosing to look at the ever-encroaching darkness that surrounds this world, exploring the terrifying reality of worldwide destruction through war. It’s not a happy subject to focus on, and The Haunted approach it with all the fire and fury of a band hellbent on causing some destruction themselves.

  • Interview: Dan Woodhead (Bass) of Skies Turn Black
Skies Turn Black are an electronic metal band from the North of England, taking influence from guitar driven heavy metal and incorporating features of dance music. Their brand of metal can chop and change genre, to go from being rich in 80's heavy metal nostalgia with riffs and huge choruses to keytar led synth sections with aggressive drops that still packs that heavy punch.
Since the release of 'No Place Like Home' in 2018, Skies Turn Black have added a keytar to line up, diversifying their sound to explore what genre bending electronics can add to the heavy metal at the core of the band. The result has taken the heaviness of dance music such as dubstep, to create an impactful twist to your run of the mill metal.
Since their appearance at Bloodstock 2023, the band have played across the UK, performing at sold out shows in Sunderland, Nottingham, Huddersfield and Bristol. Away from the stage, the band have worked tirelessly to refine their sound. The end result being their stunning new album 'Broken Hearts & Bad Habits'.
The new album puts more focus than ever on hooks, whilst keeping the band's intricate guitar work and anthemic choruses. Every song on the album exposes a vulnerability, addressing personal issues of love and lust, heartbreak and depression, as each song undertakes a journey of self-worth. Each song can be categorised as either a “Broken Heart” or a “Bad Habit” song.
'Broken Hearts And Bad Habits' will be released on June 27th, 2025, via Sliptrick Records.
We spoke to bassist Dan Woodhead about the new album, the work that has gone into it, Skies Turn Black's journey since we last spoke (Bloodstock 2023), and so much more.

  • Interview: Grace Hayhurst (Multi-Instrumentalist)
Following on from the success of her debut EP ‘Existence Is Temporary’, British progressive metal guitarist/vocalist Grace Hayhurst has returned with her debut full length album ‘The World Is Dying’. The album is set for release on June 27th, 2025.
Starting life as a pianist before moving onto French Horn, performing with various orchestral ensembles across Europe, at age 18, Grace began dabbling on guitar with the likes of Yes and Opeth acting as her gateway drug. She proudly composed and recorded the bulk of the instruments, with other notable featured musician Robin Johnson of Kyros fame composing and playing the drum parts.
Grace hopes there is something for everyone on this record, for fans of riffs, synths, slap bass, string quintets, French Horn duets, or drum solos that feel just very slightly too long. It permits a moment of reflection on our lives, how we interact with the world, the planet, society, and each other.
Which is something we delve into here with Grace, as well as finding out more about her musical journey, the work that has gone into this record, taking over Sensible Music Studios (alongside Shelby Logan Warne), playing in a Rammstein tribute band (Rammlied), and so much more.

  • Interview: Calva Louise
The already-expansive world of Calva Louise is growing even more! Their new album ‘Edge of the Abyss’, comes out on July 11th via Mascot Records. This one-of-a-kind band found each other from opposite corners of the world and has combined influences and experiences to create a myriad of captivating threads entwined into their existence.
Metal, punk, electronica, and art rock weave through grandiose narratives and cinematic storytelling with a mind-blowing visual delivery on the new album.
They built an impressive DIY spirit and formidable reputation on the UK live circuit through performances at Download, 2000Trees, a headline performance on the BBC Introducing Stage at Reading and Leeds festival, as well as tours with Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, Razorlight, Boston Manor, and Bloodywood.
We spoke to the trio recently, learning more about who Calva Louise are, how they have reached this point, the new album, the work that has gone into it, and so much more.

  • Interview: Tom Prendergast (Keyboards/Clean Vocals) of Bury Tomorrow
Following a period of uncertainty (line-up changes and COVID-inspired roadblocks), Bury Tomorrow have spent the past few years laying out new paths with new possibilities previously thought unavailable resulting in a reinvigorated belief and fresh outlook on what the band can encompass. Now, they present ‘Will You Haunt Me with That Same Patience’, their brand-new album, out now via Music for Nations / Sony Music UK.
This isn’t the best Bury Tomorrow album to date, in my opinion, but it’s a mighty fine Bury Tomorrow album none the less. Whereas The Seventh Sun (2023) was them finding their feet following the significant line-up change, this is them in a brash and confident mood, emphatically reminding listeners of their metalcore prowess, while experimenting with more cleans and electronica than ever before.
This album is good, and what it does is confirm that it’s time to stop talking about who Bury Tomorrow were, and focus on what they are focusing on, the future. It’s looking very, very bright.

  • Interview: Nick Holland (Vocals) of Wounded Touch
Michigan metallers Wounded Touch will release their brand-new album, ‘A Vivid Depiction of Collapse’ on May 16th, 2025, via Smartpunk Records.
What also makes this album special is the creative touches that give Wounded Touch’s metallic hardcore sound a different vibe. Namely the mathcore side of things. Often where the record ends up being particularly creative sounding, especially as it creates a whole new degree of challenge.
Challenge that most will delight in experiencing though, as in a world of ‘heard it all before’, Wounded Touch really do feel like they’re doing something different.

  • Interview: Sara Taylor and Ryan George of Youth Code
EBM icons Youth Code return with their brand-new EP ‘Yours, With Malice’, their first new music in four years. Dropping on 16th May via their new label home Sumerian Records, the EP is the result of an extended period of self-reflection.
One of the most unique bands out there, Youth Code have always challenged musical norms and been impossible to place in a genre, yet this new record pushes that summation even further with a new sonic style and evolved state that makes this a record like nothing else, even if the sum of its parts are familiar.

  • Interview: Stephen MacConville (Lead Vocals) of Confessions Of A Traitor
London metalcore quartet Confessions Of A Traitor will release their new album ‘This Pain Will Serve You’ on May 16th via Facedown Records.
While it’s not always easy to get that excited about metalcore these days, purely because of oversaturation, when a band as strong as Confessions Of A Traitor has new music, excitement is all anyone will be feeling. The Londoners are a mighty band, capable of delivering brutish heaviness, but also immense melody, and almost always wrap this all up in an anthemic way.
Which might all sound ‘par for the course’ for metalcore, but trust me, Confessions Of A Traitor do it better than most and all the proof you need is on this album. Approaching every track with the kind of intensity normally reserved for more extreme efforts and pouring an incredible amount of passion into everything. Alongside that, it’s an album with feeling, and if you’re willing, you can connect to it in unexpected ways.
