We live in a time when the President of the United States, sworn to protect the Constitution, has called people exercising their First Amendment rights "sons of bitches." I have seen many people who have never served who would have the audacity to claim their level of patriotism is on par with someone who has just because they can hoist their fat bodies upon their wobbly knees, stand for a 3 minute song and that makes them "a patriotic American." But what if a former service member agrees with kneeling in protest? Who is really the brave one?

Sopan Deb is a culture reporter for the NY Times, writing about the intersection of culture and politics, among other things. He is an accomplished pianist, graduate of Boston College and up and coming comic as well. Sopan was named as one of the "Top 15 Breakout Media Stars" by Politico for his work with CBS News, his amazing Twitter feed and his previous work with Al-Jazeera and the MLB network.

Before becoming the culture writer for the NYT, Sopan was embedded with the Trump campaign and was arrested live on Fox News. We get into that story as well as my wife hiding peanut butter from me, our love of Star Trek, him being called "Third Rate" by a sitting President and how he got burnt out on covering politics!

On this week's @derekmansplains I kick it and vape with Momoh Pujeh. I hang out with this dude pretty often so I figured we would get into it on a recording. Momoh is a funny, funny dude who has some interesting takes on Kanye West's slavery comments and his perspective on a black man in America.

We talk about our cultural influences, Suge Knight conspiracy theories and how our mother's influenced our musical habits! I am doing a special 2-part episode where I talk to the El-Salomon's (Eman El Husseini and Jess Salomon) who are married, one being a Kuwait born Muslim and the other being a Canadian person of Jewish descent. It has all the makings of a sitcom!

I take turns in episode 1 talking between both of them individually and then part two is talking with the both of them together. We go over Eman's background, Saddam Hussein's influence on their wedding and Canada's racism. Can you believe it? CANADA CAN BE RACIST!
