Greg Laurie: A New Beginning

Some people are very warm and welcoming. They might say, “Hey, come by our place any time, really. Our door is always open.” Really? Any time, like 2 in the morning? Will the door be open then? No, it’s sort of a figure of speech. Maybe a little overly welcoming. Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie points out when God invites us to come to Him in prayer, He absolutely means it. And, surprisingly, Jesus actually prayed for us. Let’s take a look at that prayer.

Jesus died on the cross, conquering sin, and rose again, defeating death. This is the truth we’re celebrating; listen in as Pastor Greg Laurie unravels the meaning behind Easter in a message titled, “Breakfast with Jesus.”

Notes

Jesus first appeared to Mary Magdalene in the garden by the tomb.

Jesus appeared to two disciples having an animated conversation.

Jesus appeared behind closed doors to the disciples.

Jesus appeared to 500 at one time!

When Jesus died on the cross, He conquered sin.

When Jesus rose again from the dead, He defeated death.

As Christians we want to go to Heaven.

Death died when Christ arose.

Death used to be an executioner; the resurrection just makes it a gardener.

We come out of the grave because Jesus was willing to go into it.

Because of Jesus’ resurrection, we will one day receive a new body.

Because of Jesus’ resurrection, our new glorified bodies will be much like His.

People ask, “Will we know each other in Heaven?”

We will “know fully” even as we are known.

Because of Jesus’ resurrection, our bodies will no longer age, get sick, or break down.

Because of Jesus’ resurrection, we will also have resurrected relationships.

This is the message of Easter:

Christ came, He died, He rose, and He is here

• 1 Corinthians 15:20–22
• 1 John 3:2
• 1 Corinthians 13:12

This weekend, celebrate what Christ accomplished at Easter with a special message from Pastor Greg Laurie. Go to harvest.org/live!

In this classic crusade message, Pastor Greg Laurie addresses the issues that universally affect us and shows us how we can have a “new beginning,” from John 3. This message was originally given in Wellington, New Zealand, on October 26, 2007.

Pastor Greg states, “It doesn’t matter where you live in the world—if you live in Wellington, or Christchurch, or Auckland, or Sydney, or Melbourne, or Kenya, or Los Angeles, or New York City. No matter where you live in the world certain things are true of every person.”

1. “Every person without Jesus Christ has a hole in their heart.”
2. “Everyone is lonely deep down inside.”
3. “Everyone feels guilt.”
4. “Everyone is afraid to die.”

But to all of us, Jesus gives the answer: “You must be born again” (John 3:7).

When you write about resurrection generically – “the celebrity’s popularity has seen a resurrection” – the word isn’t capitalized. When you’re writing about THE Resurrection of Christ, it must be capitalized. So significant was that event in the context of history, so significant is that to Christians worldwide, that even secular writing experts give it that respect. And today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie helps us appreciate all Jesus’ Resurrection has accomplished.

When we’re at our best, people may learn from our example. What about when we’re at our worst . . . when we’re not feeling well, or when we’ve suffered great loss? As Jesus hung from the cross – no doubt His darkest hour – he essentially preached a sermon. And today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie shows us just how much we can learn from the Lord’s words. It’s great inspiration from the suffering Savior when each and every word came at a painful price.

Some believers wish there was a tried and true formula for bringing someone to Christ. Memorize these verses, rehearse these statements. If they ask this, you say that. Well, preparation is good . . . but sometimes people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie points out the Holy Spirit is the One who draws people to Christ. We can certainly plant a seed, but we have to allow for the Spirit’s work in their lives.

In our natural bodies, there are many things inside that keep us alive, although we’ve never seen them. Antibodies, clotting agents, intestinal flora, white blood cells. Now, spiritually speaking, there are invisible forces at work that want to help us and save us, although other forces want to destroy us. Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie points out the work of God’s Spirit acquaints us with our sin, and acquaints us with our Savior. It’s important we know how to respond.

Few of us buy products to solve problems we don’t have. Why would you buy a flea collar if you don’t have a pet? But there are many people who have a problem they’re not yet aware of. They’re afflicted with the “good enough” syndrome. They’re convinced they’re good enough to get to heaven. Today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie points out that the Holy Spirit shows us our sin, shows us its penalty, and shows us our need for a solution. It’s life-saving information.
