  • A stroll through an Enchanted Graveyard, where a loving Cat appeared to soothe my heart; and poor Pepys has Broken Brains

Listener mail is warmly welcomed 🙋‍♀️

Hello dear friends and newcomers, welcome to my daily voice-note to you 🤗

Today I finish my Cerne Abbas pilgrimage with a wander around what remains of the monastery.

At the moment, I earn £34 a month from this ridiculously amateur endeavour, which is no doubt all I deserve, but it would be wonderful to increase that a little, so if you are able to, do feel free to become a subscriber. The perks of which are the odd (about thrice a year) package of random things sent to you as a thank you. The next one will go out in time for the Thanksgiving and Christmas season.  Remember you can just do it for a short while or give one-off amounts.

Thank you so much to my current subscribers and to all who have given me such good ratings and kind reviews.  I know this can’t compare to a properly produced podcast, but I do give you my (rather inept) all.

I’m also excited to announce that Art Historian and generally wonderful human being Philip Mould has agreed to join us for an episode in September.  He co-presents the marvellous and very long-running series Fake or Fortune.

Best wishes and do email me with any feedback, thoughts or ideas.

  • We dwell for a moment with heart-sore Giles Winterborne in Hardy’s The Woodlanders; We Spy a Roaming Hedgehog; and Celebrate the life of Bridget of Sweden

Listener mail is warmly welcomed 🙋‍♀️

Good evening and thank you so much for joining me.  We gently peruse tonight the usual random clutch of literary treasures, and are joined not only by the usual suspects (Mr Katt, gulls, swifts and goldfinches), but also by Mrs Hedgehog who trotted, in a most ladylike way, though in the style peculiar to small, snouty, prickly mammals.  Any suggestions as to her name?

A note: for all those who subscribe between now and November, I will post small packages to all to celebrate Christmas, Thanksgiving and the winter season.  Let’s not dwell on winter any more, as we’re still in the heart of summer, but tuck the information under your hat and think about whether you would like to subscribe regularly.  You don’t get anything for it in terms of extra content, as I’m not a fan of all that, but as current subscribers can attest, you get the odd package of random things and an awful lot of appreciation from me.

I wish you a happy Thursday evening and I look forward to catching up with you tomorrow.  Thank you to Brendan for your delightful email which I hope to read out tomorrow.

    Goodnight 🤗🙋‍♀️🌷

Listener mail is warmly welcomed 🙋‍♀️

Thank you so much for joining me. I’ve had a lovely message from one of my wonderful subscribers that I’ve asked permission to share here:Hi Gretel, I really enjoyed today’s (Tuesday) episode, especially the ambient noise 😊. I love hearing the birds, bells, traffic, etc, as a background. Your topic of “what’s the point?” really resonated with me because I’ve had to live my life with that mindset since I was about 20. It’s a long story, but I’ll just say that I never achieved success in any conventional sense and instead learned to find happiness and fulfillment in small ways.  “Ambition “ and “goals “ haven’t been in my vocabulary for 50 years, but I don’t think I missed anything. I figure that if I don’t have a point in life, I’m a lot more cuddly!’

I think she makes such a good point: ‘I figure that if I don’t have a point in life, I’m a lot more cuddly’.  I do think we need point, but it’s for us to reinvent it and renew it daily, perhaps.  And not crucify ourselves when goalposts shift and change.

I wish you a peaceful Wednesday evening. 🙋‍♀️
