Your daily dose of calm. Unpolished and unscripted but no ads and no requests for anything but your company. Trying to make the world a gentler place with literature, history and nature. Please don’t expect to find a polished product. The output is lower tier but the authenticity is hopefully as good as it gets. 🦔

Gretel le Maître likes to look for the beauty and curiosities in life, one day at a time. She shares with you snippets from books about history, art and literature and regularly takes you on adventures to new locations, to explore churches, cathedrals and architecture. I suggest you don’t try to listen in order, unless you’re very committed. Dip in and out, choosing an episode based on the title information. Whether you are interested in history, literature, poetry or one-to-one chatting, I try to give you something that will interest you. This is a podcast for the curious, the kind and - possibly - the suffering or lonely.

Good evening dear friends, old and new. This is more of an audio-journal than a podcast, so do bear that in mind and refrain, if at all possible, from giving me a low rating, which grieves me much 😓. I have no team, money or equipment and I’d be so grateful if you’d take that into account. And if you’ve not yet rated this, I’d be overjoyed if you could take the time to give me a nice rating. Thank you so much 🌞
What are you up to this Tuesday? How are you this early August week? How caught up are you in the horror of international events? Are you suffering or grieving? Struggling with the bleak moments that creep up on us all? Do share with me and I promise to reply, either privately or an episode, if you give me permission. Do share any photos or thoughts on what I’ve said. And do correct me when I’m wrong; or let me what’s annoying.
Best wishes
G

Hallo
This is not my usual type of episode so do skip if you prefer the quiet readings. The noisy cricket lasts for ten minutes, followed by thoughts and readings about the Cerne Giant. Please forgive my poor performance - a bit tired today.
Very warm wishes to you all.

Hello dear friends and newcomers, welcome to my daily voice-note to you 🤗
Today I finish my Cerne Abbas pilgrimage with a wander around what remains of the monastery.
At the moment, I earn £34 a month from this ridiculously amateur endeavour, which is no doubt all I deserve, but it would be wonderful to increase that a little, so if you are able to, do feel free to become a subscriber. The perks of which are the odd (about thrice a year) package of random things sent to you as a thank you. The next one will go out in time for the Thanksgiving and Christmas season. Remember you can just do it for a short while or give one-off amounts.
Thank you so much to my current subscribers and to all who have given me such good ratings and kind reviews. I know this can’t compare to a properly produced podcast, but I do give you my (rather inept) all.
I’m also excited to announce that Art Historian and generally wonderful human being Philip Mould has agreed to join us for an episode in September. He co-presents the marvellous and very long-running series Fake or Fortune.
Best wishes and do email me with any feedback, thoughts or ideas.

Gretel invites you to accompany her as she navigates the world a day at a time; the podcast is unscripted, it’s ad-free. It was started to help cope with the imminent death of her mother, and has continued after the grief sadly started in February of 2024. It was a path of solace and remains a path of solace, peace and kindness.
Gretel: ‘while looking outwards and finding the beauty in the world to observe and appreciate, it allows the loose ends within us to knit together. Wounds are soothed and - with an honest and open heart - shame, sorrow and despair can be lifted. There is a whole world out there, including our past, which is fascinating’.
