The 2025 Formula 1 Season is only a few months away, and we're using the next few weeks to break down the basics of the sport.

Today, we're talking about some of the unsung heroes of the sport: all the jobs that have to be done to get a car on track outside of the drivers. We're walking through the basics of mechanics, engineering, strategy, aerodynamics, team principals, sim teams, design teams, and the people back at the factory that make every formula 1 race weekend possible.

While every team does things differently, these are some of the very critical roles you'll find on any team. From race engineers and driver pairs like Lewis Hamilton and Bono or Max and GP, to team principals and CEOs, this is every one you might see on your screen when you tune in to a Formula 1 Grand Prix.

Lewis Hamilton heads to Ferrari, Red Bull has a rough year ahead, McLaren reins as constructors champions, Carlos Sainz heads to Williams, Valtteri Bottas heads home to Mercedes, and five new rookies (Kimi Antonelli, Liam Lawson, Gabriel Bortoleto, Ollie Bearman, and Jack Doohan) enter the grid.

2025 is set to be an exciting, messy year. And, starting next week, we're launching into Grid Chat University -- a basics series that will take you all the way through the format of a race weekend, choosing your favorite driver and team, the basics of tire strategy and car vocabulary, pre season testing, and more.

The 2024 F1 Season comes to a close in Abu Dhabi -- and so does Lewis Hamilton's time with Mercedes. After a bell to bell season, McLaren clinch the constructors title for the first time since 1998, and Ferrari miss out by just a few points. And, it's the end of an era -- with team swaps and drivers leaving the grid, it's the end of Formula 1 as we know it.
