When Suzanne Anderson's husband died, she lost not only her partner and the future with him; she lost pretty much everything on the outer surface of her life: her home, her community, and her financial stability. Still, that unexpected tragedy brought something else, the opportunity to walk her talk, to put her teachings of years in practice, and live her life the Mysterial Way.
In this episode, I'm joined by the inspiring Suzanne Anderson, Author, Speaker, and Mysterial Woman. After 10 years of research about women, new paths of awakening, and using trauma and loss as a transformational tool, Suzanne published "You Make Your Path By Walking," a crafted blend of memoir and guidebook that offers a pathway to turn the breaking down into the breaking open into new ways of living, loving, and leading. In her second book, "The Way of the Mysterial Woman," Suzanne speaks directly to every woman who feels the call to greatness, authenticity, and meaningful living.
Throughout this episode, Suzanne shares her background story; she talks about her husband's death and how that tragedy changed her external and internal world. She also explains the Mysterial Way and what it means to be a Mysterial Woman, describes how the perception of happiness changes after we experience loss, and more.
Listen to episode 142 to learn how to turn into a Mysterial Woman and live the Mysterial Way.

Whenever we avoid discussing death in front of our children, we might think we are sparing them suffering, but we are not. Keeping things from children only creates more room for fear than anything; it is not protection.
In this episode, I'm excited to be joined by the Community Doula and death literacy advocate Francesca Lynn Arnoldy. She is the Author of "Cultivating the Doula Heart," "The Doula's Guide to Living Fully and Dying Prepared," and the children's book "Map Of Memory Lane," a beautifully illustrated story especially designed to deal with kids' curious nature and help them find an answer to some of their big questions about death and grief.
Throughout this episode, Francesca talks about her journey from childbirth educator to writing and educating about the "other end of life." She shares details of that process, which ended up with her developing the University of Vermont's End-of-Life Doula Professional Certificate Programs.
Francesca also offers guidance on how to approach discussions about death, grief, and loss with children, what we can do to help them develop the language to deal with it, how to make them feel safe, and more.
Listen to episode 140 of Grief and Happiness to learn a safer way to talk to our children about death, loss, and how to find happiness in grief.

In 2018, a mudslide engulfed several houses in Montecito, California. Several people were dragged for miles and buried alive under hundreds of pounds of dirt, electrical wires, cars, and house wreckages. Kim Cantin and her family didn't leave the house in time and were dragged and buried by the mudslide. She lost her husband, son, and the family dog. Her daughter, Lauren, "the miracle mud princess," was found alive and rescued over 100 yards from the house, buried under 20 feet of mud.
Kim shares her story of thriving through an unimaginable tragedy in her book, "Where Yellow Flowers Bloom: A True Story of Hope Through Unimaginable Loss."
In today's episode, Kim talks about her terrifying story and highlights how finding hope through her unimaginable loss saved her and gave her and her daughter the strength to keep going. We also talk about community, and more specifically, Montecito's community, how they showed up to help and weren't mere "grief tourists."
Additionally, Kim talks about her late husband Dave's contribution to Montecito's community, the beautiful homage Montecito's kids paid him later, the celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres that offered their platforms to raise awareness and help, and so much more.
Listen to episode 138 and learn about Kim's fascinating fortitude, community, healing, and hope story.

If you go through grief soberly, with intention, and feel it. If you don't escape it, run from it, and don't medicate against it, you will evolve into a bigger, better, more loving person, for sure.
In this episode, I'm joined by Mike Murphy, a bestselling author, speaker, coach, and consultant. After almost ten years of battling breast cancer, Mike's wife, Margot, learned the disease was spreading to her brain. The oncologist explained: "If you do nothing, you have six weeks to live; if you start treatment, you have six months." For the next six months, Margot and Mike enjoyed every day as if she were going to beat cancer, and at night they'd get ready for her last breath. Margot's final six months inspired "Living in Color," a moving and honest memoir, where Mike describes the passion and courageous attitude Margot had in her almost ten years battle with breast cancer.
Mike also created the Love From Margot Foundation, which has helped hundreds of women with breast cancer living below the poverty line.
Throughout this episode, we chat about life and death, grief, legacy, and purpose. Mike talks about the changes Margot's death produced in him, how it changed his views on transitioning, his purpose in life, and navigating grief. We also go through the Transformational Health Retreat Mike is building in Colombia, Mike's passion for helping people around the world figure out how the universe really works, and so much more.
Tune in and listen to episode 136 to learn about Mike's grief journey and his passion for helping others find happiness and fulfillment.
