  • SlothBoogie Guestmix #252 - Pontchartrain
For the last 12 years, the way that Detroit-based DJ Pontchartrain has approached music, is centered around two things - learning and sharing. The result has been an interesting change up from the status quo of what comes out of the motor city. What started off as a project for edits and DJ tools has turned into a rediscovery of the roots of dance music. This shift in the last few years has pushed him into the new opportunities with some of the greatest labels in disco and house realm, and interesting achievements across the globe.
When it comes to performances, Pontchartrain believes in the overarching goal of community. From the time he brought the Detroit Children’s Choir on stage with him at Movement Festival to sing along, to the bold invocations of poetry and messages of love, the dancefloor is a place for everyone to come as they are, and enjoy the people they are with, centered around the ancient idea of the communal dance.
It's at times like these, when we remind ourselves of what will come again, that we need people like Pontch to give us a little escape. tune in folks... Friday is here once more.

  • SlothBoogie Guestmix #249 - Lele Sacchi
Good friend and Milanese heartthrob, Lele Sacchi returns to the SB guestmix series this week. The man knows his way around a house 12", having been in the game since the early '90s, bearing witness to the evolution of what we call house music. Lele also teaches musical history at his local polytechnic, so he's well placed, and even better versed, to take us on a journey through time. A couple months back we tasked him with digging through his collection to provide us with a soundtrack to the mid 90's... and hear lie the fruits of his labour.
"I recorded this selecting only underground deep funk and jazzy house tunes from the mid 1990’s, when I started leaving breakbeat music behind and mixing only 4/4 music.
It was a great moment for those genres, the US original sounds melted into the exploding UK sounds.
In Milan, I was playing at legendary nights at Tunnel, Gasoline and then at Magazzini Generali which became one of Europe’s most important underground large venues. It was also a period when I started getting international recognition playing in Spain, France and UK with likeminded spirits as Ralph Lawson, DJulz, Jef K and the likes..."
To know where we are going, we must first know where we have been...

  • SlothBoogie Guestmix #248 - Mike Dunn
“I was one of the first cats bringing two reel-to-reels and spinning with them at the parties. I was bringing out two Pioneer 707s, doing the Hummingbird, Jacks, The Courtyard, etc. I’d bring a drum machine, too. I would make tracks right then as the party was going. Way before my guys Daft Punk and all of them were doing live gigs, I was doing that at the basement parties – just bringing drum machines and doing everything live. A lot of my early tracks came from me doing them at the party when the party was going on. I’d save it in memory and bring it home and polish it up. But I listen to it now and it’s like, damn… didn’t use enough cleaner!” - Mike Dunn
Ladies and gentlemen, it's the weekend, and it's time... to jak!

  • SlothBoogie Guestmix #246 - Cici
This week we're finally able to put out Cici's SB mix, having been in talks about it since last year?!
Cici came onto our radar off the back of some stellar sets at the likes of Warehouse Project and Fabric as well as some choice radio spots on Ibiza Sonica, Rinse FM and Pioneer Radio. It's in Ibiza that she's been really finding herself musically and developing her craft as a resident at The Zoo Project and Pikes over the last couple of years.
She's currently out there right now waiting for some kind of normality to return to the island. We couldn't think of anywhere more suited to enjoy her deep and tribal tinged brand of electronic music and this heat wave in the UK will serve as the perfect backdrop to the next hour's mix. So get it locked in and drift away to some choice hypnotic vibes ahead of the weekend!

  • SlothBoogie Guestmix #245 - Austin Ato
Playfully bringing the deep grooves to the underground and the pumping house to the big rooms, Glasgow’s Austin Ato has seen his profile rise over the past two years. Initially releasing on the taste-maker Phonica's white-label imprint, showcasing a blend of live keys and drums with exquisite sampling, he then created a blazing 12” of loopy, disco and drum machine house for Man Power’s Me Me Me label. This immediately put him on our radar, and we've supported ever since.
His music comes in many forms, be it afrohouse on Defected with "Oh Mama" or making some Detroit and Chicago influenced tunes for Luke Solomon's Classic Music Company with 'Drip' and 'Heat' from the EP named after the latter. His DJ sets have led him to play many of the best parties in the UK from Percolate with Daphne and Floating Points, to Horsemeat Disco and Karizma.
Having evolved from the enigmatic Drums of Death, our man Ato has a diverse ear, and a knowledge of what makes a groove. He serves up an hour of eclectic ear food for us in the mix series, moving through multiple genres, but always with a rhythm which urges you to move.
Welcome to the weekend once more...
