Brixton-based Producer/DJ @theonbower is having a busy year. Between launching his own imprint 'Swung Out Records' to showcase his own brand of dusty house and 80s Italo and playing sets at Glasto, Westival and El Dorado, it looks like next year will be much of the same. Keep an eye out for his upcoming parties under both of his event names; Pangaea Disco and Swung Out. He's also the man managing things behind the scenes at the legendary party institution @secretsundaze.

"Really enjoyed making this mix. Recorded at my studio in Brixton, it's got a bit of everything in it, mostly dance floor focussed covering house, boogie and of course a healthy serving of retro synth sounds, as well as a premiere of the '08 Breakbeat VIP' of my next single titled The Disguise. Mostly new bits in here but have peppered a few favourites and one of my own edits that all invariably make their way into my live sets too. Make A Dance is the love child of Ben Lewis and Josh Ludlow, born from the depths of lockdown the brief was simple make music that makes you feel good and moves the body. With 5 releases to date on their beloved M.A.D Records & M.A.D Edits they have only just begun.

"We tried something a bit different this time with Ben taking the first half and Josh the second and like our Dj sets in real life, we take it across the board with styles ranging from minimal, acid, jackin, dream house and disco... From playing his dad’s Hammond B3 organ as a child to experimenting with various instruments into his teenage years, it was only natural that Toronto-native Demuir would centre his life around music. As he focused his sights on the DJ world, Demuir developed an eclectic house sound that exudes funky, sexy, and soulful beats, and is consistently recognized and sought by fellow artists and dance music fans around the world.

The man exudes house from every pour. Here we find him in fine form, hitting it out the park alongside fellow Candian house fiend, Toronto Hustle. Enjoy.

Equally at home as a record producer, a session bass player, and a diverse selector, Nathan Thomas has become a formidable presence in India’s independent music scene. The Mumbai-based musician’s solo project, NATE08, treads the hallowed, groove-oriented territories of Funk, RnB, and House. Nathan imbues his productions with a sense of familiarity with classic records of the past while adding fresh energy to 21st-century dance-floors.

To celebrate his forthcoming album on Needwant, Nate has delved into the NW archives and brought together a mix from their back catalogue.

Miura Records is a record label based in Valencia, Spain. It was founded in Spring 2021 as a sub label of the "walking house label" @thebasementmusic. The music released on Miura is deep and raw, with a focus on underground and leftfield House. Nevertheless, since its creation, Miura has become a home for various genres such as Deep- and Acid House, Garage, Hip House, D'n'B and Deep Tech. Tracks released on Miura have been played by artists such as Bicep, Cinthie, Kid Simius, Low Steppa and Luke Solomon.

This week's guest mix breaks new ground for us in the series, as we welcome two of Djoon's residents to play B2B in the form of Afshin and Karlainthemix. Together they showcase the sound of the Parisien underground and the vibe of Djoon.

Afshin is a highly respected and experienced musical selector, curator, and founder of the Djoon. Strong house and disco vibes coloured by worldwide influences with a contemporary sound and groove define Afshin's world. With groove as the keystone, Afshin develops his love of Black Music in his sets and his productions as well as in his residency, My Grooves, which brings together legends and rising stars around House Music.

Karla is a DJ, dancer and a bonafide club head of Finnish origin, who spent years on the dance floors of different clubs worldwide before moving to Paris in 2018, where she became a resident at the underground music temple the Djoon club.

"I recorded this mix during the last days of summer. I spent a lot of the summer in Europe, gigging and swimming along the coasts of Italy. I wanted to preserve those feelings of joy, tranquillity and lushness in a soundtrack that could be revisited any time of the year. The mix ends on a special track by Eli Escobar and I called “Take Me,” released earlier this year."

Dj/ producer Kim Anh has been serving her diva-soaked and acid-laced sound for well over a decade. Once dubbed by Vice as a “club queen” she has been a long-time figure in the underground queer club scene. With appearances on several labels such as Gigolo Int’l, Afro Acid and Robert Johnson Live she is now at the helm of her New York based record label Can U Not Talk.

Having relocated from the Balearic Islands, Marcelina is already making her mark as an electric vibe curator across London. Drawing influences from London’s underground rave music scene, Wick’s DJ sets deliver an eclectic array of sounds as she combines dark and uplifting house, minimal techno and broken beats. Atmospheric and edifying, her sets throughout the years have added to her already burgeoning reputation as a supremely skilled craftswoman behind the decks.

"The mix was recorded in a random house on the Hollywood hills, and the premise was to bring the good vibes into it."

Dancers can always be sure of one thing with Moscoman, a certain unpredictability and energy will always define the music he serves up. As well as having a background in indie and rock, he plays house, acid, techno, dark disco, synth, all from a more alternative angle. For that reason, he is a regular at wide-ranging but iconic places like Space in Miami, Panorama Bar, Glastonbury and Pacha Ibiza.

Next to all this, Moscoman continues to focus on building his Disco Halal label and brand into a real family. It is a place where artists like Simple Symmetry, Red Axes, Trikk and Auntie Flo have all freely expressed themselves. Like Moscoman's own approach to music, it is an unrestricted label that never fails to subvert and surprise.
