  • Palabras que usas mal en español sin darte cuenta / Words you're misusing in Spanish without realizing it

    ME ENCANTA.

There are several words that 90% of my students misuse.

Some of these are 'false friends': words that sound similar in your language but have different meanings in Spanish. I'm sure you know what I mean.

Some of these words will sound familiar, and others perhaps not so much.

The point is that you don't realize you're using them incorrectly until you start using them. Often, the person listening understands you and doesn't correct you.

That's why conversation classes are so effective. You practise, enjoy the process and, almost without realizing it, your Spanish improves.

Sometimes my students aren't even aware of how much they're improving. I take notes in every class and can therefore see their progress each month. Sometimes it's obvious and other times it's more subtle, but it's always there. That's what I love most about my job.

    I LOVE IT!

I think we Spaniards can be a bit whiny.

It's in our DNA and our culture, although we can complain with wit and humour. But the reality is that we complain when it's hot, when it's cold, when there are too many people around, and when there aren't enough people around. The pianist James already said it in his "open letter to the Spanish people" in 2018.

And, of course, since we complain so much, we have many expressions for it.

Today, I'm going to teach you five of them so that you can complain like a true Spaniard.

If you're one of those who complain about not being able to learn Spanish, start looking for a solution and register on my website to receive the weekly newsletter that will help you continue improving from home 👉https://speakandlearn.es/registration/

  • Siesta y Tapas, ¿Mitos o realidad?

👉https://speakandlearn.es/registration/_____________________________________________

If I asked you to name the first three things that spring to mind when you hear the word 'Spain', you might say 'sun, parties and siestas', or perhaps 'tapas, bullfighting and paella'.

But how much truth is there in these stereotypes? I'll tell you in the new podcast episode

    _________________________________

What is the most important thing to consider when learning Spanish? Grammar? Or pronunciation? Vocabulary?

A few months ago, a student asked me this question, and it inspired a new episode of the podcast.

Of course, you should try to improve in all areas, and I'll be here to help if you need me. (You can sign up for my newsletter and every week I'll send you an email with expressions, exercises, and tips to improve your Spanish 😉. You can do so HERE).

However, it's also true that some mistakes are "worse" than others. For example, the person listening to you might not understand you, or you might cause confusion.

Ultimately, we learn a new language to COMMUNICATE with others and make ourselves understood. Yes, there are some mistakes that can lead to misunderstandings if you make them, or that the other person doesn't understand what you're trying to say. Today I'm going to talk about three things you need to keep in mind when learning Spanish.

    A mi me encanta.

Summer in Spain is endless, it never ends... or at least that's how 90% of Spanish parents feel.

Almost three months where working with children at home becomes mission impossible.

Perhaps that's why, because the ‘break’ is so long, September is for many a ‘new beginning’. A time to set new goals, to finally start that diet, or join the gym, or learn a second language...

    I love it.

I talk about all this in the first  episode of new season of the Speak & Learn Podcast, ‘Hablando Claro’.

We are starting with the podcast, and also with conversation classes. If you want to reserve your place, don't wait until October... because then, you know what happens.

  • Hacemos el balance de lo bueno y malo / We take stock of the good and the bad.

Summer has officially arrived, and most of my students are taking a break to travel, visit family and spend time with their children. I do the same — I love summer!

Disconnecting and resting is very important for the mind and body, but be careful not to disconnect completely from languages for a long period of time. As I've said before, languages aren't like riding a bike; they can be forgotten.

Resting and enjoying yourself doesn't have to mean stopping learning.

In today's podcast episode, the last of the season, I would like to thank you and also give you some tips to help you avoid forgetting your Spanish this summer.

By the way, if you haven't registered on my website yet, you can do so HERE.And if you want to take the SUMMER INTENSIVE COURSES, you can request information here 👉 [email protected]And if you want to listen to the most popular episode this season, it's this one.Oh!
