Acts 1:1-11

After the resurrection on Easter, Jesus made himself known to many, and this is His desire for us. Jesus wants us to know Him. What we see in the book of Acts is that the Holy Spirit, God’s presence, peace and power, is given to us to make this possible and to empower us as the church to be a vehicle of Christ’s presence in this world.

We will look at the spread of the early church from Jerusalem outward to the ends of the earth as told by Luke in the book of Acts. This week we look at some of the key practices that were foundational for this early Jesus movement in light of the powerful movement of the Holy Spirit. How might this help us consider how we do church today?

And then “Go.” By going where ever He calls you, you will see Him, “just as He told you.” Relax.

The Resurrection

On Easter we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. He has risen is the good news for us. What we will see in Mark’s telling of the story is that while this is true, it’s not always easy to make sense of what the resurrection means for us. It may take us some time to comprehend the life and victory we have in the Jesus who is alive.

He is Risen! He is Risen Indeed! Join on Easter Sunday as we reach the climax and culmination of "The Story" and all human history, the resurrection of Jesus the Christ! This Holy Week we have been considering the final week of Jesus' life through the direct and concise writing of the Gospel of Mark. As we marvel at the miracle of the resurrection this Sunday, we will also consider where Mark ends his story. It is not where we might expect, but it becomes a powerful reminder of the journey of faith and how the resurrection can meet us all along that journey.

A Tale Of Two Betrayals

Matthew 26:20-25, 31–35, 47–50, 27:3–5

Judas and Peter are an instructive study in contrast because they have so much in common. Called by Jesus. Instructed by Jesus. Empowered by Jesus. Serving . . . . ? Though both were at the Last Supper, only one would find himself running to the Empty Tomb on that first Easter morning. Betrayal is a universal human experience. Acceptance and Transformation are a gift of God's Grace.

This week we continue in our mini-series within "The Story" called "This Changes Everything" that is our exploration of the life and ministry of Jesus. We have spent the last four weeks looking at each of the four gospel accounts. This week (Palm Sunday) we turn our attention to the last week of Jesus' life. We will consider the events of this last week through the perspective of Jesus' disciples as they wrestled with how their expectations and reality did not quite match up and suddenly following Jesus was going to cost them dearly. How would they respond? And what about us?

This Sunday is Palm Sunday and the start to Holy Week. Some of the questions that we will wrestle with this week are how do we get from celebrating Jesus as the One True King to Jesus crucified in the same week, and how could one of His own disciples, Judas, go from being Jesus’ disciple to betraying Him, and then tragically end his life in loss and desperation? Easter is coming, but only after and through the darkness.
