Last week we explored what is at the heart of wisdom and what it is. This week, we are going to be diving into the opposite of wisdom…foolishness. What is it? What does it look like? What posture does it take, and is there any coming back from foolishness?

Choices Have Consequences

Proverbs 1:20-33

As Image-Bearers of the Creator of the Universe, each person has a measure of freedom in making choices. Unfortunately, because we are creatures, we lack the authority to choose the consequences of those choices! Proverbs not only shows us that Trust in the LORD is the path of wisdom. But there is a contrasting option: namely, that trust in self has the consequence of leading to foolishness in many forms and with many faces.

What is Wisdom?

Proverbs 1: 1-7

On this Pentecost Sunday we are kicking off a new summer sermon series in the book of Proverbs we are calling "Everyday Wisdom." We explore the wisdom of God given in these ancient scriptures - wisdom that continues to prove itself true even today. This week we will study the introduction in Proverbs 1: 1-7 and explore this idea of wisdom. We will also lay some groundwork that helps us understand how the Proverbs and the rest of the wisdom literature work to produce wisdom in its readers.

This week we conclude our Eastertide sermon series through Colossians titled: "Jesus: The Glory and Mystery of God." Colossians is an ancient letter written by the Apostle Paul to the church community in the first century city of Colossae. This week we will lean into that context to consider how radical Paul's words were in that first century Roman context. Then we will consider how the Gospel and example of Jesus Christ informs and shapes our relationships with those in our lives.

The Apostle Paul lived life and pursued ministry in relationship with other people who were vastly different than him in many ways – his “Gospel Posse.” And yet for all their differences in background, experience and abilities, we see in this passage an affection that grows from the one thing that binds them together: The Gospel of God’s Grace.

Putting Off Death, In Order To Put On Life

Colossians 3:1-17

From resurrection to new heart and mind, to new behaviors. Paul now begins to get specific with regard to what the fruit of grace will look like in the life of a believer. The expression of Christ’s resurrection at work in the life of a believer will take specific shapes: some attitudes, motivations, and behaviors will wither away while other, different ones, grow and become more dominant.

We continue our Eastertide sermon series through Colossians titled: "Jesus: The Glory and Mystery of God." We have been talking about how this Gospel of "Christ in us" does a work of maturation and formation in us so that we might stand firm amid pressures in this life. This week Paul paints a picture of what that looks like in the life of the Christ-follower. This allows us to consider what kind of person am I becoming?
