An Encouragement and Prayer

Colossians 1:1-14

This week we are starting a journey through Paul’s letter to the Colossians. While in prison he has heard and is encouraged that the true gospel of Jesus is working in and through their lives. So, he decides to write a letter to them offering encouragement and prayers. What’s amazing for us is that this two-thousand-year-old letter that is not addressed to us can accomplish the same purposes for us as it did the Colossians. Join us this week as we dive into this new series.

Colossians 1: 1-14

During this season of Eastertide, we will begin a new sermon series through the NT book of Colossians titled "Jesus: The Glory and Mystery of God." In this letter of Paul, the Lordship of the risen Christ is a consistent theme on which all else flows. This Sunday we will be introduced to the letter and consider Paul's opening prayer for the church in Colossae. He thanks God for the people's virtue and prays for wisdom as they navigate how to live faithfully in their context. What an important and ongoing thing for us to consider in our changing world.

Paul’s letter to the Colossians begins with prayer. With that, we can catch a glimpse into the Apostle’s prayer life. That, in turn, gives us insight to ask ourselves: 1) How does my prayer life look by comparison and 2) What can I learn to grow my own prayer life to be more like Paul’s? This is an invitation to what might be a new and deeper encounter with God by maturing our own prayer life!

It has been a long day for the disciples – after the crushing and confusing experience of seeing Jesus crucified and die, this morning they began receiving reports of Jesus alive again. After more reports, and now at the end of the day, Surprise! What are they – and we! – to make of a crucified Jesus who is now alive?

Christ is Risen! Christ is Risen Indeed! On this Resurrection Sunday we remember and consider what that first Easter morning would have been like for the women who met their risen savior by the empty tomb. Our hope is that it would inspire us to recapture the wonder of this good news - that Christ is risen!!

Ezekiel 37:1-14

Our God is a God of resurrection and restoration, of new life even when it seems like new life is an impossibility. We see this truth in the vision Ezekiel sees in the valley of dry bones. We see this truth in the resurrection of Jesus and an empty tomb. And the good news is we can see and experience this truth in our lives. Because He lives, we live.

This Is Not What I Was Expecting!

Numbers 14:1-24

It is a decisive moment in the national life of Israel: A few months after being delivered by the LORD from slavery in Egypt, they now stand on the edge of the Promised Land. This moment is a situation that shows us the state of their heart and their need for Someone greater than themselves – greater even than Moses. It would be centuries later, but there would be One who would see the joy on the far side of the challenge before Him, and trusts the Father when we cannot.

The Unexpected

Matthew 21: 1-17

This Palm Sunday we continue our sermon series in Lent through the book of Exodus we have been calling "enough" but shift our focus to the events of Holy Week as described in Matthew's Gospel. This Sunday we will remember how Christ rode into Jerusalem to waving palm fronds and shouts of "Hosanna!" The people expected and longed for a conquering King but Christ came to do so much more. We will look back at how God has been working in unexpected ways since the Exodus. Do we believe he can do the same in our lives?

The God Variable

Numbers 14:1-19

When Israel finally comes to the border of the wilderness and the promised land, they see a land flowing with milk and honey as well as a land filled with giants. What happens next for them is truly a watershed moment. What will they believe about who God is, what God has said, and who God has promised to be? This is what we call this week “the God variable.” Join us as we explore the impact of this story for our lives and as we celebrate Palm Sunday.
