Epic Fail or Epic Grace?

Exodus 19:1–8, 32:1-4

One of the standout features that runs through the entire Book of Exodus is the repeated failures – of epic proportions! – of the nation of Israel. Their ongoing shortcomings though, make the story into one of the LORD’s Epic Grace: A God who makes Himself known by His acts of unearned rescue. That God is the substance of hope for all those who fail.

Covenant Keeper

Exodus 19: 1-9

This Sunday we continue our sermon series in Lent through the book of Exodus we are calling "enough." This week we will focus on the covenant the LORD made with the people of Israel on Mt. Sinai summarized in Exodus 19. We will consider this key biblical concept of covenant in the scriptures but zero in on what is happening in Exodus chapter 19-32 and how Jesus becomes the fulfillment of the covenant. The hope is this will help us consider what that covenant means in our own lives as we seek to love and follow Christ.

A People Belonging to God

Exodus 19:1-8

God’s rescued people are a “kingdom of priests and a holy nation” called to not only worship God, but to represent Him and what He stands for in this world. As much as this was true for the Israelites at Mt. Sinai it is true for us today. The beauty of representing God in this world is that in both our successes and our failures we can make known the best things about God if we’re willing to give our lives over to Him.

Trusting the Provision of God

Exodus 16

When the reality of desert living without an end in sight and limited resources got the best of Israel, anxieties shaped what they remembered about their past in Egypt and their understanding of God’s gracious provision for them. It’s amazing that thousands of years later this same reality exists for us. Thankful, God in His kindness to us, is committed to getting “Egypt” out of us and invites us into a rest that only He can provide.

Holy Uncertainty

Exodus 16: 1-5, 9-16

This Sunday we continue our sermon series in Lent through the book of Exodus we are calling "enough." The 40 days of Lent mirror the 40 days of Jesus in the desert before his Temptation which is an echo of Israel's 40 years in the desert after leaving Egypt. This series will direct our hearts toward how Christ is enough just as the Lord was enough for God's people in the wilderness. This week we will consider the LORD's provision to the people in the desert and what it means to embrace holy uncertainty.

Testing For Training In Trusting

Exodus 16:2-12

The newly liberated nation of Israel is now out of Egypt geographically speaking. But it turns out Egypt is not out of them! Led by the LORD towards the desert, a grumbling people reveals a heart of misplaced love. Now, manna, the Bread From Heaven, becomes for Israel the LORD’s means of testing for training in trusting.
