Hardly Focused episodes

  • Episode 472, Part Two: Be Excellent to Each Other

It’s finally here – Bill and Ted Face the Music! Jack really enjoys it, though he equates it to a big budget “Funny or Die” sketch. What’s more, fans and critics alike think it’s great. A silver lining in 2020!

Elsewhere, for some God-awful reason, a live-action Powerpuff Girls is in the works. There are just some things you shouldn’t touch; this is one of them. Horrible-taste-in-mouth aside, who is going to play Ms. Bellum?!

  • Episode 472, Part One: Remembering Chadwick Boseman

It’s a full (virtual) house for this episode of Hardly Focused, with Acc, Jack, Mike and Nate co-hosting!

This segment mourns the sudden loss of actor Chadwick Boseman. While filming several movies, including Black Panther and the Avengers sequels, Boseman secretly battled colon cancer.

A question arises during this discussion; should Boseman’s role in the MCU be re-cast, or should someone else take up the mantle of the Black Panther?

  • Episode 471, Part Three: Coheed and Cambria’s Sequel to “Jessie’s Girl”

2020 has brought us some weird things. Add this to the list; Coheed and Cambria wrote a sequel to a song they did not initially record. Teaming up with Rick Springfield, Coheed presents “Jessie’s Girl 2,” with a cool music video to boot.

Elsewhere, a meth’d up fellow in Kentucky attempts to sell a 4-year-old boy at his local gas station. Should have gone to Mississippi, right Principal Skinner? “Boy for sale!”

  • Episode 471, Part Two: All Gas No Brakes at Talladega Superspeedway

Jack and company provide running commentary on another great entry from All Gas No Brakes. Host Andrew Callaghan interviews attendees at the Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama. Like the AVN Expo – audio goldmine.

Fun fact – Google Chrome attempts to auto-correct “Talladega” to “Gallbladder.” That makes sense – as much sense as watching cars race in circles for hours at a time.

  • Episode 471, Part One: Fire Tornadoes and Double Hurricanes

Jack, Fro, and Nate presenting this episode of Hardly Focused! Fro is in-studio with Jack, while Nate remotes in from parts unknown. This is the second time since the pandemic began, that Jack has an in-person co-host!

If 2020 hasn’t been bad enough, America now has to worry about fire tornadoes. Moreover, 2 hurricanes are projected to hit the same region – at the same time. This leads Jack to ponder the perfect premise for a Twister sequel, involving fire.

Meanwhile, Jack Sherman – former guitarist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers – has passed on. For the unaware, Sherman features on RHCP’s first album. Godspeed, sir!

  • Episode 470: Grandpa Joe

Welcome to a special installment of The Acc and Jack Show! In this episode, Acc and Jack discuss the 2020 Democratic National Convention. Don't forget to vote in November!

  • Episode 469, Part Three: Anthems for a Seventeen-Year-Old Girl

A decade after its release, Jack finally watches Scott Pilgrim versus The World. It’s Nate’s favorite movie, but what does Jack think about it? Discussing the film leads Jack on a trivia-laden diatribe about the music careers of actors and actresses.

On the above note, check out She & Him, Scarlett Johansson and Pete Yorn, Jenny and Johnny, and Got a Girl!

Across the country, the last remaining Blockbuster now doubles as an Airbnb. In fact, this topic leads Jack and Nate into discussing Scott Pilgrim. How fitting!

Seguing, Jack and Nate watch a clip from a Texas morning TV show where a host tries Brach’s Turkey Dinner Candy Corn. This is a real thing that exists. Jack quite fancies the host and her reactions upon taste.

Wrapping up, Jack plays audio of Julie Kavner/Marge Simpson responding to Donald Trump’s senior adviser. Jenna Ellis claims Kamala Harris’ voice resembles that of Marge. It’s the Simpsons versus George H.W. Bush all over again!

  • Episode 469, Part Two: Taylor Swift versus Donald Trump

Queen Taylor Swift preaches against President Danny Tramp on Twitter. Much to the ire of her fans, she speaks against Trump’s “calculated dismantling” of the United States Postal Service. Remember kids, however you can do it – vote in November!

Meanwhile, Sarah Palin takes a cue from Jack in trying to pronounce Kamala Harris’ name. Just do what Jack did before this episode – research! “She’s ripping us off Robin, hoo-hoo!”

In a tangent fitting of this podcast’s title, Jack and Nate discuss the commonality of their respective names. Jack can’t believe people pronounce “Jack” as “Jake.” Likewise, people call Nate “Nick.”
