will host the Fargo premiere of the award-winning Sundance short, “

One Cambodian Family, Please for my Pleasure

.” The screening will take place at the Fargo Theatre at 7 p.m. Monday, April 8.

I was please to have the director of film A.M. (Anna) Lukas on the air to give us details about this short film that has been winning awards and praise from Festivals around the world.

Shot locally, “One Cambodian Family, Please for my Pleasure” is based on the true story of a lonely refugee from Czechoslovakia who paints an all-too-appealing picture of her American life as she writes a letter begging an organization to send a Cambodian refugee family so that she can help resettle them in her new “hometown of dreams”: Fargo, North Dakota.

Tickets available in advance, they'll be slightly higher at the door. Proceeds to benefit Lutheran Social Services of ND

Betsy DeVos, Education Secretary, testified in the House Tuesday of a proposed cut in the Special Olympics budget of nearly 18 million dollars cutting it down to nothing.

Kathy Meagher, President and CEO of Special Olympics ND was my special guest talking about that if this cut went through, how would it affect the program, especially in ND. 

Also she thought the estimated number of special athletes in the nationwide program was given at 272,000 which she thought was way too low...closer to one million.

A participation drive of volunteers and families to call their representatives to tell them to vote no on this is getting underway.

This Saturday let's get everybody over to Casselton to the Spirit of Life Center for the Rob Schmaltz benefit.

Our special guest is Jennifer, Rob Schmaltz daughter-in-law.

Rob has been battling Stage 4 Gastric Adenocarcinoma a rare form of stomach cancer.  Rob has been through surgeries and numerous chemo  sessions. The monies raised will help with medical expenses for Rob and his family.

There's plenty of food, raffles and silent auction, and the benefit starts at 6 pm.

Susan Meissner has just come out with a new historical novel about World War II interment camps in the U.,S.

This heavily researched  book deals with a woman whose father was placed in a German Interment camp in Bismarck, before the entire family is sent to a camp in Texas and eventually sent back to German.

Elise is also searching for a friend who was sent to a Japanese camp around the same time...Only Elise has developed Alzheimer's and is determine to go to Japan and meet her friend one more time.

A great book which will have you wanting more with every page.

Zachary Wallace Wentz of Bismarck will be showing his short narrative at the Fargo Film Festival this Saturday. It's around 15 minutes long but tells the story Ham the monkey who is sent into space sub orbit in the early days of the space program.

It stars one of our friends on Nighttime Live, Aimee Klein, and almost all location shots were here in North Dakota. Wait til you hear about the  very special location that represents the NASA control room. It's near Cooperstown.

The show screens at 3:40 pm with a Q & A with Aimee and others afterwords. Zachary will not be able to attend.
