1. Explore Theodore Roosevelt National Park.

2. Adventure through small towns/cities like Fargo and Medora to connect with the locals.

3. Set a PR at the Fargo Half Marathon, one of the flattest road runs in the country!

4. Visit the Lewis and Clark State Park, which is home to the largest native mixed-grass prairie of any North Dakota State Park.

5. Maah Daah Hey Trail: The 98-mile main trail connects the southern and northern units of Theodore Roosevelt National Park, running through rolling prairie and rocky badlands-home to mule deer, coyotes, golden eagles, bighorn sheep and bison. Loop trails and a new southern extension add another 80 miles to the trail system.

6. Visit the International Peace Garden: Trails and lush gardens along the U.S.-Canada border celebrate peace between the two nations. The 2,300-acre garden is half in the U.S. and half in Canada, about 110 miles northeast of Minot. In summer, the International Peace Garden gets big splashes of color from perennials and annuals.

1. Hiking and exploring Boone, North Carolina. The “new” Asheville.

2. Drive and road trip thru the Blue Ridge Mountains/Blue Ridge Parkway.

3. Camping on Bear Island or one of the several scenic islands in the Outer Banks like Ocracoke and Hatteras

4. Go mountain biking in the Pisgah National Forest. It hosts 510,000 amazing acres in the Appalachian Mountains. It’s a prime place to enjoy a number of outdoor activities, particularly mountain biking. The trails most popular among bikers are the Mills River, Bent Creek, and Davidson River trailheads. There are many more trails in the area that are suitable for bikers of all experience levels, from easiest to most difficult.

5. Paddle the Great Dismal Swamp in South Mills, NC in the northern portion of the state. This is a wetland forest where you can rent a kayak for the day and is perfect for a fall day (leaf peepers!)

6. Chimney Rock State Park - spend the day rock climbing or hiking - great for the entire family and your furry friends!

1. Letchworth State Park: The Grand Canyon of the East! The Genesee River roars through the gorge over three major waterfalls between cliffs--as high as 600 feet in some places--surrounded by lush forests. Hikers can choose among 66 miles of hiking trails. They also have a cool balloons over letchworth event in May.

2. Spend a weekend in the Finger Lakes. This region consists of 11 rough, long lakes in the central region of NY. Canandaigua Lake is near Rochester and includes a number of wineries to visit, kayaking on the lake and the New York Wine and Culinary School where you can take a cooking class (or two).

3. Visit the 1000 Islands - located on the border of NY and Canada (near Ontario), this region consists of a number of small towns where you can take boats or kayaks to single islands with castles, go wine tasting, see lighthouses, etc. “Waters that were once patrolled by pirates (yes … pirates!) and Prohibition bootleggers are now cruised by cottagers”.

4. Hike Storm King Mountain on a moderate day hike to give you 360 degree views of the Hudson Valley.

5. Climb Outdoors at Dumbo’s Boulders in prep for a trip or to get in shape. It’s America’s largest outdoor rock climbing gym, located in Manhattan.

6. Backpack the 24 miles Devil’s Path in the Catskills Region that includes six mountain summits and is described as beautiful, painful, brutal, and strenuous by the Outbound Collective.

1. Questa: The two created and direct the Pick Your Poison trail races, 5K and 10K events held in October for the past three years. Surrounded by protected wilderness, the town lies about 20 miles north of Taos and 12 miles west of the resort community of Red River. It’s also a gateway town to the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument, a natural playground with two wild rivers, the Rio Grande and Red, and acres of stunning lands.

2. The International Hot Air Balloon Festival! (while you are in Albuquerque, check out the Los Poblanos Historic Lavender Farm and Inn. They have an excellent farm to table menu, store and lavender everywhere!)

3. Visit the newest National Park. White Sands.

4. Hike and explore Chaco Canyon and Historical Culture Region

5. Head to Tent Rocks National Monument

6. Run the Bataan Death March Ultra Run

1. Hike the Hacklebarney Even on Indian summer days, the Black River Gorge in Hacklebarney State Park (Long Valley) is cool and refreshing, making it an ideal spot to see fall foliage. If you like to hike with your pooch, you'll be happy to know that leashed pets are welcome.

2. Climb Absecon's 228 steps Holding the distinction of the state's tallest lighthouse (at 171 feet), Absecon Lighthouse is one of Atlantic City's most popular attractions. Get a great workout and a fantastic view of AC's skyline with a hike to the top. Are you a lighthouse lover? Then take the annual Lighthouse Challenge, which is held in mid-October (this year, the event is October 15-16). Help preserve NJ's lighthouses while you see how many you can climb

3. Ride a wave In fall, the combination of cooler air temperatures, warm ocean waters and the swells that accompany the Atlantic's hurricane season create the prime time for surfing in New Jersey. No wonder the state boasts some of best surfing on the East Coast

4. Amy K is excited: There’s a rail to trail!!! 331 Miles of Rail-Trails in the state. We love them all take your pick depending on where you are.

5. Visit the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge: eight-mile unpaved Wildlife Drive that winds through a salt-marsh refuge of startling beauty. Along the way, the marvel of an ecosystem situated along the North Atlantic Flyway is revealed. Spring and fall migrations are especially breathtaking. Stop to watch shorebirds dive for fish and shellfish and meander along pathways and up observation towers. Watch for osprey on special nesting platforms.

6. Visit the Grounds For Sculpture: Art lovers (and nature lovers) won't want to miss this 42-acre museum and sculpture park in the town of Hamilton. Established in 1992 to facilitate the appreciation of contemporary sculpture, it has become one of the state's most popular art exhibits, boasting 270 large-scale works by Seward Johnson and other US artists.

4. Visit Mt. Monadnock. The world's most climbed mountain owes its popularity to several factors: you can climb it easily in a day, its trails offer options for different abilities. There’s some villages nearby, including Fitzwilliam, Jaffrey Center, Hancock, and Harrisville.

5. Visit the NH Lakes Region: South of the White Mountains is Lake Winnipesaukee, the focal point of New Hampshire's Lakes Region, which also includes nearby - and far less developed - Squam Lake and Newfound Lake. Go kayaking, sailing, waterskiing, etc.

1. Visit the Great Basin National Park: located in the eastern part of the state close to the border with Utah. The Lehman Caves are one of the top attractions in the Great Basin National Park, and a tour will take you through sections like the Gothic Palace and the Lodge Room. Another popular activity is hiking along the Bristlecone Pine Trail, where you can see Bristlecone Pines. Also stop at Kerouac's for brunch or drinks!

2. Take a hike in Red Rock Canyon: If you are visiting Vegas, Red Rock Canyon is a hop, skip and a jump away from the strip. There’s ample opportunity to hike and rock climb.

3. Goldwell Open Art Museum: “Art where it seemingly shouldn’t be” is the motto of this museum with massive sculptures located in the Mojave Desert outside of Rhyolite, Nevada.

4. Visit Valley of Fire State Park just outside of Las Vegas.

5. Go on a 487 Mile Long UFO Sighting Road Trip

6. Spend some time at Lake Tahoe. The 2nd deepest lake in the US & largest alpine lake in the US.

1. Walk or bike the Cowboy Trail: This 321-mile rails-to-trails conversion runs between Norfolk and Chadron, through one of the most scenic areas of Nebraska. You don't have to travel the entire trail; you can hop on and hop off at different points along the way, or simply turn around and go back when you get tired.

2. Visit Ashfall Fossil Beds State Historical Park: An ancient volcanic eruption left a rich cache of fossils at this site near Royal (140 miles southeast of Valentine). Inside the massive new Hubbard Rhino Barn, visitors see what paleontologists are uncovering (including barrel-bodied rhinos, five species of horses and three species of camels). Activities include a fossil dig table for kids and trails with overlooks.

3. Attend a Star Party: This major astronomical gathering in August at Merritt Reservoir's Snake River Campground (about 30 miles southwest of Valentine) welcomes families and observers of all skill levels to join lectures and look through huge telescopes. The Nebraska Star Party's near-total lack of light pollution makes for some of the darkest skies in the nation.

4. Head to the Badlands! Toadstool Geologic Park is located in the Oglala National Grassland in far northwestern Nebraska. It is operated by the United States Forest Service. It contains a badlands landscape and a reconstructed sod house. The park is named after its unusual rock formations, many of which resemble toadstools

5. Fontenelle Forest is a 1,400-acre forest, located near Bellevue, Nebraska. Its visitor features include hiking trails, a nature center, children's camps, a gift shop, and picnic facilities. The forest is listed as a National Natural Landmark and a National Historic District. Oh BTW it’s enchanted! Dress up in your favorite enchanted costume and join us for crafts and activities to spark the imagination, and bring out your inner child. Visit the Mystical Marketplace to trade tokens for special material to create the perfect fairy house or gnome home. Discover our enchanted forest and meet all the forest fairies, gnomes, and woodland creatures that call Fontenelle Forest home.

6. Go to the College World Series in Omaha Nebraska.

1. Visit the Rock Bridge Memorial State Park just south of Columbia, Missouri, the Devil’s Icebox is above and below-ground landscape connected by delicate wooden bridges and pathways. Why “devil’s icebox”? It stays a cool 56 degrees all year long. 63 ft. Natural Tunnel known as Rock Bridge, a double sinkhole, and Connor’s Cave.

2. Elephants Rock State Park, near the Mark Twain National Forest is home to the elephant rocks, which were formed from 1.5-billion-year-old granite, and are giant boulders that stand end-to-end like a train of circus elephants. The rocks have created formations that intrigue geologists, are popular with history buffs interested in the past quarrying, and fascinate children who love to climb on and between the boulders.

3. Go kayaking and river floating at Current River State Park. The Current River was the first river in America to become a National Riverway. Along the river is a cave you can go through and explore. Located in Southeastern Missouri, and flows down into Arkansas.

4. Visit the most controversial National Park out of the 62...Gateway Arch!

5. Paddle the Missouri River Water Trail. A major River of the Lewis and Clark expedition!
