  • Robert Williams III dominates the mailbag ahead of his return

The Boston Celtics are steamrolling their opponents with a frequency that has begun to alarm the rest of the NBA to the delight of Celtics fans, but even with a historically great offense anchored by Boston's two star wings Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, this team is yet to finish coming together.

With sidelined Celtics center Robert Williams III poised to return to the team before Christmas, Boston could get even better, and that could send a ripple effect through the entire roster. How could the rotations change? Will the Celtics play the same way? Who will see their minutes shrink or grow?

On this episode of the CLNS Media "Celtics Lab" podcast, your usual hosts held a mailbag to answer all of your questions about the Celtics' hot start, the changes that might be coming, and more.

Alex Goldberg, Justin Quinn, and Cameron Tabatabaie answered a host of such questions and announce the winner of the mailbag contest on this latest edition of the lab.

  • Making sense of royal NBA fans and World Cup play with Josh Coyne

For many fans of the Boston Celtics, common British sports phenomena like having the Prince and Princess of Wales in attendance of your favorite team's game or the political component of supporting one's (association) football team can be somewhat mystifying. It was a very British-inflected week for Celtics fans with the royal family in attendance for Boston's first tilt against the Miami Heat and the ongoing World Cup a point of interest for Boston fans and players both.

To that end, the hosts of the CLNS Media "Celtics Lab" podcast thought it our duty to bring on Celtics Lab O.G. and resident British soccer fan and complicated-relationship-with-British-Royals-haver Josh Coyne to make sense of it all for the first in a special episode series we're calling Peer Review.

Host Justin Quinn and Coyne get into some of their (and the Celtics') mixed emotions on having the royals in attendance last Wednesday, get up to speed on the good and the bad of the World Cup, and wrap things with an all-time Boston alumni soccer squad.

Check out this episode whether you love footy or are as clueless about it as Justin is -- no soccer knowledge required.

  • Sorting out homestands, road trips, and early cases for accolades with Bobby Krivitsky

At roughly the 2022-23 NBA season's quarter point, the Boston Celtics stand alone as the nest team in the league with a 17-4 record and a two game lead over the next-closest ball club in the Milwaukee Bucks; what can the play of a team with a historic offense and an improving defense tell us about how Boston will play for the rest of the season?

On this episode of the CLNS Media "Celtics Lab" podcast, Sports Illustrated's Bobby Krivitsky joins the pod to talk over the Celtics' recent play, the schedule in the week and month ahead, and how we are feeling about the team's play relative to several narratives surrounding some full-season accolades.

Join your usual hosts Cameron Tabatabaie, Alex Goldberg, and Justin Quinn as the trio joins Kravitsy into breaking down what has admittedly been among the most fun Boston rosters to watch in a very long time indeed.

And while you are tuning in, be sure to listen for how to be included in a giveaway we're putting together this week to win some cool Boston Celtics swag.

  • (Not a parody NBA basketball podcast) with Sam Sheehan

Sometimes, when the meat of an NBA season is just too well done, and too many cooks are spoiling the stew, one just has to sit back and call in the experts. And with the Boston Celtics cooking the rest of the league (besides the Chicago Bulls anyway) while some of their players are in the running for MVP while others struggle with social media, the hosts of the CLNS Media "Celtics Lab" podcast brought out the big guns to make sense of it all.

That would of course be Sam Sheehan, NBA Reporter for the Athletic 2.0, a very serious mind for a very serious era of Celtics basketball.

Join your usual hosts Alex Goldberg, Cameron Tabatabaie, and Justin Quinn as they turn over the reigns of the Lab to Sheehan as we break with our usual footing on podcasting about the Celtics in a moment we felt a bit of a lighter approach to coverage might help shake us through an early season malaise caused as much by the person running Twitter as what people use it for.

For those of you confused by satire, this episode is (mostly) that before the 35-minute mark. Those of you not picking up on what the "You Know Ball" podcast host is laying down, we'll return to our usual format next week -- but until then, buckle up.

  • What's true, false, or too soon to tell about early-season Boston Celtics trends with Chris Forsberg

With a total of about 15 games played by most teams in the NBA at this point in the 2022-23 season, we have enough data to be able to say some things about the league, the Boston Celtics, and their players. What we are seeing on the court may not be who they are at the end of the season, but we can at least make some educated guesses.

Which weird starts from teams are real? Is Boston's offense the real deal? Can the Celtics defend like they did last season? Will Joe Mazzulla's performance earn him a non-interim status upgrade this season? Could Marcus Smart repeat as Defensive Player of the Year, and could Jayson Tatum really win this year's Most Valuable Player award?

The hosts of the CLNS Media "Celtics Lab" podcast teamed up with NBC Sports Boston's Chris Forsberg to try and figure out what's real, what's fake, and what's too soon to tell about the trends we-re seeing early this season.

Join your usual hosts Alex Goldberg, Cameron Tabatabaie, and Justin Quinn as the foursome dives into what we are seeing in the early going of this season.

  • On a surprising start to 2022-23 and what it might mean for the Celtics' trade options with Sean Deveney

The 2022-23 NBA season is far enough along at this point that we can start getting an idea of what trends have some substance to them, and which might be mostly smoke and mirrors. And in a season where many teams seemed likely to tank for prized prospect Victor Wembanyama, few are playing poorly and fewer on purpose.

That might mean fewer potential trade options for contenders like the Boston Celtics, but with the way they have been playing to start the season, is that really even very big of a concern for a team whose weaknesses appear to have been exaggerated?

To take stock of the 2022-23 season so far and what it might mean for Boston's teambuilding plans as they gear up for a run at Banner 18, we linked up with Heavy's Sean Deveney to talk Celtics trades, the (lack of an) epidemic of tanking, and what we like about the team so far.

Join your usual hosts Justin Quinn and Cameron Tabatabaie for a deep dive into the 2022-23 stat quo and what it means for the trade deadline plans of the front office.

  • Navigating Boston's 'big' cap concerns with Yossi Gozlan

The Boston Celtics and Grant Williams could not come to terms on a rookie scale extension for the Tennessee alumnus ahead of the 2022-23 NBA season, with Williams instead electing to bet on himself. How could this play out for both parties given we're hearing rumbles of interest from opposing teams? How does the looming free agency of Al Horford affect Boston's cap space outlook?

The backdrop for Boston's offseason financial concerns for their frontcourt also takes shape with a likely cap spike and looming media rights deal that could transform labor negotiations ahead of the league's next collective bargaining agreement, so what might something like a hard cap mean for Boston?

To get a look at some lingering but timely issues from a teambuilding perspective, the hosts of the CLNS Media "Celtics Lab" podcast linked up with HoopsHype cap guru Yossi Gozlan to talk over the contours of the Celtics' and NBA's cap management concerns, with an unvarnished view of the team's start thrown in for good measure.

Your usual hosts Cameron Tabatabaie and Justin Quinn also touch on Kyrie Irving's suspension in the context of a lot of bad NBA news percolating to the surface all at once this week.

  • On NBA (un)accountability and unseemly entanglements from Ime Udoka to Kyrie Irving with Dave Zirin

The Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets have maintained a strange link for nearly a decade now with the two teams' fate inextricably entangled first through the deal that sent Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to the Nets, then later through the stars the Celtics drafted from the draft assets Brooklyn traded them.

But the connection didn't stop there, with point guard Kyrie Irving leaving the team to join the Nets, and Boston hiring away Ime Udoka to be their head coach. Now, in recent weeks, things have taken an even stranger and more concerning turn.

The Nets are poised to hire an Udoka suspended for misconduct while Irving's dalliances with a thread of antisemitism creeping through the NBA media sphere to touch the Celtics by way of Ye (FKA Kanye West).

To talk about that resurgent antisemitism in a broader, historical context, as well as the more immediate impact of Brooklyn perhaps poaching Udoka, the hosts of the CLNS Media "Celtics Lab" podcast got together with The Nation's Dave Zirin to dive deep into some heavy material.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear what Zirin had to say about his new article on Irving, as well as Udoka, Jaylen Brown's Donda ties, and more in an important episode of the Lab.

  • Getting up to speed on Boston's tilt vs. the new-look Cavaliers with Evan Dammerall

The Boston Celtics get their first look at the new-look Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday night as they head back to TD Garden for their fifth game of the 2022-23 NBA season, squaring off against Donovan Mitchell united with last season's rookie phenom Evan Mobley and potentially, health allowing, Darius Garland.

With a changed supporting cast due to the Mitchell trade, it is unclear just how much of a challenge the Cavs are for Boston now, but it is clear they are a better team for the deal. Will the Celtics handle their business in the wake of a stinging loss to the Chicago Bulls, or encounter their first losing streak of the season?

The hosts of the CLNS Media "Celtics Lab" podcast sat down with "Locked On Cavs" host and Fear The Sword editor Evan Dammerall to get a feel for the team Boston faces to kick off the weekend, with Dammerall delivering the goods on what we ought to expect.

Justin Quinn and Cameron Tabatabie also dig into the Bulls loss and the Jaylen Brown-Ye West controversy, the latter recorded before Brown's mea culpa for his initial response.

  • On Jayson Tatum's 2023 MVP in NBA 2K23's official simulation, Marcus Smart's DPOY repeat case and more with Ronnie 2K

While he still has to win the award in the actually existing 2022-23 NBA season, the official simulation of 2022-23 put together by the folks at NBA 2K23 has granted the 2023 Kia Most Valuable Player award to superstar Boston Celtics swingman Jayson Tatum.

To talk about Tatum's hardware in the official sim, co-host of the CLNS Media "Celtics Lab" podcast Cameron Tabatabaie linked up with Ronnie 2K, the face of the popular game. The duo gets into Marcus Smart's chances to repeat as Defensive Player of the Year, whether we'll see enough of Celtics center Robert Williams III for him to be in the running, and more about the season to come based on how the simulation went in the popular video game.

Take a listen to the clip embedded below to get up to speed on what NBA 2K might be able to tell us about the real season about to unfold.

They even talk about what teams end up in the simulated 2023 NBA Finals, but you'll have to tune in to hear which ones they are.
