Hawaii reported 174 new COVID-19 infections on Monday, pushing the statewide total for cases since the pandemic began to 5,215.
Meanwhile, the number of active cases in the islands stands at 3,307.
Over the weekend, Lt. Gov. Josh Green said passing the 3,000-mark threshold for active cases would be justification for another “stay-at-home” order on Oahu.
It’s unclear, however, if the governor agrees.
In a news conference last week, Gov. David Ige said he was considering new restrictions as COVID-19 infections continued to soar but said he was not there yet.
The 174 new infections Monday includes 163 on Oahu, nine on Maui and two on the Big Island.
Monday is the 14th straight day that Hawaii has seen new cases in the triple digits, in an alarming situation that has threatened to overwhelm Oahu hospitals.

For a third straight day, Hawaii saw more than 200 new COVID-19 infections on Friday amid growing concerns that the pandemic is close to overwhelming Hawaii’s hospitals.
There were 233 new cases Friday, including 218 on Oahu, nine on Maui, five on the Big Island and one on Kauai. Additionally, Hawaii News Now has learned 50 of the new cases are children.
The new infections push the statewide total since the pandemic began to 4,543.
Of those, 2,787 cases are “active,” which means they have not been released from isolation.
Meanwhile, there are 173 patients with the virus who are hospitalized statewide, including 41 people in ICUs and 22 on ventilators.
The new case total isn’t a new record. That was set Thursday, when Hawaii saw a jaw-dropping 355 new coronavirus cases.
There were ALSO no new deaths reported Friday. The death toll from the virus in Hawaii stands at 40.

The state reported a jaw-dropping 355 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, a new record high that underscores just how quickly COVID-19 is spreading on Oahu.
Meanwhile, the state’s death toll rose by two ― to 40.
It’s the third consecutive day that Hawaii has reported two new COVID-19 fatalities. In August alone, Hawaii has lost 14 people to the virus.
The latest fatalities were both Oahu men older than 60.
The new cases Thursday shatter the previous one-day record for cases ― 231 set on Aug. 8.
State Health Department officials also reported that:
Of the 355 new cases, 343 are on Oahu. There were also seven reported on Maui, four on the Big Island and one on Kauai.
Some 86 of the new confirmed cases are part of an alarming cluster at the Oahu Community Correctional Center.
There is also a growing cluster at a homeless shelter in Iwilei, with 20 cases under investigation.
So far in August, Hawaii has reported 2,206 new coronavirus cases.
The new infections push the COVID-19 case total on Oahu since the pandemic began to 3,900. Statewide, there have been 4,312 confirmed cases.
