Something a little different for the next few weeks. As part of our Ready to Report series, we will be catching up with the Iowa recruits to get their thoughts before they arrive in Iowa City. First up in this series is one of the early commits, Leighton Jones. He discusses the recruiting process that brought him to Iowa, the school that gave him pause before his commitment, and how excited Jones is to get to Iowa City in a few weeks.
We are fortunate to have an XFL champion on the podcast this week. Fresh off winning the XFL title with the Arlington Renegades, Chuck Long talks about the title win and doing it with two of his close friends. We also spend a good deal of time discussing the Chuck Long Charity Auction that benefits the Children's Therapy Center of the Quad Cities that takes place this weekend. Get your bids in here: CTCQC Auction.
Then we have a rundown of the latest news, including the White Out game against Penn State, the launch of the Iowa Swarm Beer, and updates on Iowa baseball heading into their final regular season series against Northwestern.
A special edition of the podcast this week as we are joined by former Hawkeye Jake Gervase. He is holding the third annual Rally for Reid football and spirit camp coming up on June 23rd. We also discuss his view on the success of Phil Parker as DC and why Iowa players come back to train during the summer. Then we do a bit more promotion of the Chuck Long Charity Auction. Plenty to discuss on what is a bit of an emergency podcast thanks to some pretty significant developments that began over the weekend and officially popped on Monday afternoon. Iowa athletics has a gambling issue among at least 26 student-athletes. Kyle Huesmann joins the pod to discuss it. He talks about how this story started at the baseball game on Friday when star Keaton Anthony was not in the lineup. We rundown what we know and what the fallout might end up being. Then we talk some Iowa baseball heading into the final two series of the season and discuss a pair of commitments on Monday, one for Iowa football and the other for Iowa basketball.
It was a pretty significant day for the Iowa football program, so we had to discuss it on the podcast. Iowa landed top transfer wide receiver target Kaleb Brown from Ohio State. He was a Top 100 player last year. We discuss his impact and the role that Cade McNamara played in being able to land him on his official visit. Does this make Iowa the favorite in the Big Ten West? Then we also talk about a new commitment from the Class of 2024 and give a prediction on another offensive lineman heading to the Hawkeyes. Finally we talk a little NFL Draft and Iowa hoops.
It's a busy podcast this week. We are joined by former Hawkeye Chuck Long and Angie Peterson from the Children's Therapy Center of the Quad Cities to promote their upcoming charity auction that will include a lot of Iowa Hawkeye items, including signed helmets from Lukas Van Ness and Jack Campbell. Then Matt Randazzo and Tom Kakert break down the first round of the NFL Draft and Van Ness to Green Bay and Campbell to the Lions. We wrap up diving into the transfer portal. Will Iowa football actually land a wide receiver? And on the basketball front, is Iowa done after missing out on B.J. Mack?
It's NFL Draft season so we are required to have your good friend Scott Dochterman on the podcast to talk about it. First, we look back at Saturday's final practice for the Iowa football team. What did we learn about the 2023 Hawkeyes? Is there real improvement on the offensive side of the ball and at quarterback? What about the Iowa defense? How good can this group be and how deep is the defensive line heading into the season? Then we talk a lot of NFL Draft and where Lukas Van Ness, Jack Campbell, Sam LaPorta, Riley Moss, and Kaevon Merriweather might be headed. We also talk about Iowa player draft prospects for next season.
New podcast as we preview the upcoming final spring practice for the Hawkeyes, discuss Brock Harding being named Mr. Basketball in Illinois, and have a long discussion about the coordinator press conferences this week in Iowa City, particularly what Brian Ferentz said. Then we wrap up talking a lot of football and basketball recruiting.
It's portal season so that means plenty of talk about the transfer portal for Iowa men's and women's basketball. We start with Fran McCaffery picking up a portal commit from big man Ben Krikke. What is Iowa getting in Krikke and where does Iowa stand with other portal targets? Then we dive into the women's hoops portal where the Hawkeyes now have an opening. Who might Lisa Bluder be targeting in the portal and how realistic are they? Then we talk some Iowa football and what we are hearing from spring practice, plus the portal opening up again for football and positions they will be targeting.
The NCAA title game is in the books and there's plenty to talk about following the Hawkeyes falling short against LSU on Sunday afternoon. Tom Kakert and Matt Randazzo look back at the game and the subpar officiating that took place and took away from the game. Then we dive into the Angel Reese and Kim Mulkey issues coming out of the game. We also praise Lisa Bluder and Caitlin Clark for the way they handled the entire situation. Finally we wrap up talking about the transfer portal and a few upcoming visitors for Fran McCaffery.
