HEAR Journaling Ephesians Chapter 1 

Highlight – Ephesians Chapter 1:19-23  New Living Translation

19 I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power 20 that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms. 21 Now he is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else—not only in this world but also in the world to come. 22 God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church. 23 And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.

Explain – Paul says that he was praying for the believers in Ephesus that they would understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for those that believe in Him.  The same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead was available for believers.  He is far above any authority on earth.  The church is His body made full and complete in Christ.

Apply – We too should understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for we that believe in Him.  The same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead is available for us today as well.  He is far above any authority on earth and has empowered His church, His body, which has been made full and complete in Christ.  Our enemy does not want us to realize not operate in the power that is available in us.

Respond –  Lord, help me to understand and operate effectively in Your mighty power, the same power that raised Christ from the dead.  You have empowered me along with Your church, being made full and complete. Help me Lord to be all that I can be in You, in Jesus Name, Amen.

HEAR Journaling Galatians Chapter 6

Highlight – Galatians Chapter 6:1-5 New Living Translation

6 Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer[a] is overcome by some sin, you who are godly[b] should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself.2 Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ. 3 If you think you are too important to help someone, you are only fooling yourself. You are not that important. 4 Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else. 5 For we are each responsible for our own conduct.

Explain – Paul explains that believers should help each other to remain faithful, a believer should help a fellow believer when they are overcome by sin and they should beware that they do not fall in to sin themselves.  Believers will get satisfaction from a job well done.

Apply –  We too should help each other to remain faithful and help fellow believers when they may be overcome by sin.  We must be aware of our own behavior and not fall in to sin ourselves. We will get satisfaction that only comes from living rightly in the Lord. 

Respond – Lord, I strive to abide in You and faithfully and obediently follow Your guidance.  Help me to know when to help a fellow believer.  Help me to be aware of my own condition and not stray from You.

HEAR Journaling Galatians Chapter 5

Highlight – Galatians Chapter 5:16-17;22-25 New Living Translation

16 So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. 17 The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. 

…

22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. 25 Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.

Explain – Paul explains that believers should let the Holy Spirit control every aspect of their lives so they will not do what their sinful nature craves.  The Holy Spirit produces spiritual fruit in believer’s lives when they are faithful.

Apply – We too should let the Holy Spirit control every aspect of our lives so we will not do what our sinful nature craves.  The Holy Spirit will produce spiritual fruit in our lives when we remain faithful.

Respond – Lord, I seek to let You, Holy Spirit, to control every aspect of my life so I will not do what my sinful nature craves.  I know You, Holy Spirit, will produce spiritual fruit in my life as I remain faithful.

HEAR Journaling Galatians Chapter 4

Highlight – Galatians Chapter 4:8-12 New Living Translation

8 Before you Gentiles knew God, you were slaves to so-called gods that do not even exist. 9 So now that you know God (or should I say, now that God knows you), why do you want to go back again and become slaves once more to the weak and useless spiritual principles of this world? 10 You are trying to earn favor with God by observing certain days or months or seasons or years. 11 I fear for you. Perhaps all my hard work with you was for nothing.12 Dear brothers and sisters,[f] I plead with you to live as I do in freedom from these things, for I have become like you Gentiles—free from those laws.

Explain – Paul explains that he was living free from the laws of men by living in the fullness of the Lord.  He encouraged the believers in Rome not to fall back to false doctrines.

Apply – We too must ensure that our relationship with the Lord is solid, that we are not following strange doctrines of men rather than depending on a faith filled relationship with the living God.

Respond – Lord help me, give me the wisdom, knowledge, understanding and instruction with discernment to follow You faithfully, obediently and effectively and not lead anyone astray.

HEAR Journaling Galatians Chapter 3

Highlight – Galatians Chapter 3:23-29 New Living Translation

23 Before the way of faith in Christ was available to us, we were placed under guard by the law. We were kept in protective custody, so to speak, until the way of faith was revealed.

24 Let me put it another way. The law was our guardian until Christ came; it protected us until we could be made right with God through faith. 25 And now that the way of faith has come, we no longer need the law as our guardian. 26 For you are all children[m] of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes.[n] 28 There is no longer Jew or Gentile,[o] slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children[p] of Abraham. You are his heirs, and God’s promise to Abraham belongs to you.

Explain – Paul explains that the way of faith through Jesus Christ put the law away.  All believers are equal in Christ and inherit all the promises to Abraham.

Apply – We should focus on our relationship with the Holy Spirit through our faith through Jesus Christ.  We must faithfully and obediently abide in Him as we follow Him.

Respond – Lord, thank You so much for Your free gift of salvation. I strive to follow You faithfully, obediently, and effectively, Holy Spirit, all of my life.

HEAR Journaling Galatians Chapter 2

15 “You and I are Jews by birth, not ‘sinners’ like the Gentiles. 16 Yet we know that a person is made right with God by faith in Jesus Christ, not by obeying the law. And we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we might be made right with God because of our faith in Christ, not because we have obeyed the law. For no one will ever be made right with God by obeying the law.”[d]

Explain – Paul explains that people are made right with God through faith in Jesus Christ, not by any effort to obey the law, rather believers need to obey the Holy Spirit.

Apply – We too are saved only though faith through Jesus Christ.  We must be faithfully obedient in our relationship with the Lord through the Holy Spirit.

Respond – Lord, thank You so much for Your free gift of salvation.  I seek to abide in You, Holy Spirit, as You abide in me.  I strive to follow You faithfully and obediently, to be all I can be in You, in Jesus name, Amen.

HEAR Journaling Galatians Chapter 1

Paul’s Message Comes from Christ

11 Dear brothers and sisters, I want you to understand that the gospel message I preach is not based on mere human reasoning. 12 I received my message from no human source, and no one taught me. Instead, I received it by direct revelation from Jesus Christ.[d] 13 You know what I was like when I followed the Jewish religion—how I violently persecuted God’s church. I did my best to destroy it. 14 I was far ahead of my fellow Jews in my zeal for the traditions of my ancestors.  15 But even before I was born, God chose me and called me by his marvelous grace. Then it pleased him 16 to reveal his Son to me[e] so that I would proclaim the Good News about Jesus to the Gentiles. When this happened, I did not rush out to consult with any human being.[f] 17 Nor did I go up to Jerusalem to consult with those who were apostles before I was. Instead, I went away into Arabia, and later I returned to the city of Damascus.  18 Then three years later I went to Jerusalem to get to know Peter,[g] and I stayed with him for fifteen days. 19 The only other apostle I met at that time was James, the Lord’s brother. 20 I declare before God that what I am writing to you is not a lie.

Explain – Paul explains that he was chosen by God before he was born to be an apostle for the Lord Jesus Christ.  He faithfully, obediently, and effectively followed the Holy Spirit throughout his life and ministry after his Damascus Road experience.

Apply – The Lord has chosen each of us, before we were born, to love and serve Him.  We too, like Paul, should faithfully, obediently, and effectively follow Him all of our life.  Are you serving Him?  If not, now is the time to repent and give your heart to Jesus, then faithfully, obediently, and effectively follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Respond – Lord, thank You so much for Your free gift of salvation.  I thank You for choosing me.  I strive to follow You faithfully, obediently, and effectively, Holy Spirit, all of my life.

HEAR Journaling -  2 Corinthians Chapter 13

Highlight - 2 Corinthians 13 New Living Translation

5 Examine yourselves to see if your faith is genuine. Test yourselves. Surely you know that Jesus Christ is among you[b]; if not, you have failed the test of genuine faith. 6 As you test yourselves, I hope you will recognize that we have not failed the test of apostolic authority. 7 We pray to God that you will not do what is wrong by refusing our correction. I hope we won’t need to demonstrate our authority when we arrive. Do the right thing before we come—even if that makes it look like we have failed to demonstrate our authority. 8 For we cannot oppose the truth, but must always stand for the truth.9 We are glad to seem weak if it helps show that you are actually strong. We pray that you will become mature.

Explain – Paul writes to the believers in the church in Corinth to test, or examine, themselves in genuine faith.  He encourages them no to resist correction but to embrace it to become strong.

Apply – We should examine ourselves with the help of the Holy Spirit regularly to ensure that our faith is strong so that we can grow to become all we can be in Him.

Respond – Lord, help me to examine myself regularly to ensure that my faith is strong so that I can grow to become all that I can be in You.
